The texts for today - Deuteronomy 6-8 - are some of my favorite chapters in the Torah. We get the great Shema text, warnings about external threats in the Promised Land, and internal warnings about prosperity in the Land. It is from these texts also that Jesus resists the temptations in the wilderness and defines his Kingdom not as "bread alone" but dependent upon every Word that comes from the mouth of God.
