The Brenham Fire Department recognized several new and outstanding firefighters at its annual awards dinner this weekend.

Schramm has served in the department for eight years and completed numerous certifications, including for State Firefighters & Fire Marshals Association of Texas Firefighter, Driver Operator, Hazmat, National Incident Management System and Wildland Firefighter.

Schramm currently serves on the department’s examination and pension committees. He has also taken on a greater role in organizing the fish fry and Fireman’s Fiesta fundraisers, as well as functions like the Toys for Tots toy drive.

Another firefighter recognized was Jon Devine, who received the Character Award. The award is presented to a firefighter who performs in the Bucket Brigade’s annual fire prevention plays at local schools, interacting with and entertaining schoolchildren.

Assistant Chief Brian Scheffer was recognized for 25 years with the department, while firefighter Josh Ruemke and apparatus operators Chase Jones and Joe Hinds were acknowledged for five years of service.

In addition, 11 fire officials received new badges. They include four firefighters: Jon Devine, Josh Ruemke, Alex Knight and Dakota Woodruff; apparatus operators Jonathan Schramm and Ron Luhn; Lieutenants Brent Folsom and Ryan Swor; Captain Andrew Jozwiak; Assistant Chief Stephen Draehn; and Fire Marshal Steven Loving.

Four new personnel were also introduced, those being A-shift firefighters Jon Devine and Josh Ruemke and B-shift firefighters Alex Knight and Dakota Woodruff.
