The City of Burton will address several roads in the upcoming fiscal year through an interlocal agreement with Washington County that was approved by the Burton City Council on Tuesday.

Included in the interlocal agreement are pavement replacement on Live Oak Street and Cedar Street, applying chip seal to San Marcos Street, repairing major pot holes on North Brazos Street, and digging ditches for better drainage along the east side of South Main Street. The city’s estimated cost for the improvements is approximately $27,250.

Those upgrades will be part of the 2023-24 Fiscal Year budget, which was also approved on Tuesday along with the water/sewer budget. The budgets are based on last year’s actual revenues and expenses.

The general budget includes $159,654 in income, $127,792 in expenses, $107,559 in debt service fund revenue and $85,550 in debt service expenditures, bringing the net budget income to $53,871.

The water/sewer budget has $277,008 in income and $253,935 in expenses, so the net budget profit is $23,073.

The budgets are posted on the City of Burton website, https://cityofburton-tx.gov.

The council also approved the addition of no thru truck signs with a truck image at both ends of North Colorado Street. This is in addition to the existing signs.

In other action, the council:

  • Approved an estimate for the purchase and installation of an on-site generator with accompanying propane tank and propane for water well #4 from Zaskoda Repair, LLC and Fayetteville Propane Co. The city plans to use U.S. Treasury funds provided through the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund to make the purchase, which is estimated at $87,565.
  • Approved a resolution authorizing the submission of an application for the 2023-24 TxCDBG Community Development Fund competition.
  • Approved opening a new checking account with $8,500 from the general fund to be used for funds received through the Texas Department of Agriculture 2021-22 TxCDBG, having all elected officials as authorized signers on the account, giving the city secretary informational access regarding the account and adding the account to online banking.
  • Approved a resolution authorizing the city to enter into an agreement with the state allowing closure of a segment of the state highway system on Spur 125 between Mulberry Street and Texas Street for the annual Sons of the Legion Cotton Gin Classic Car Show to be held June 10th, with a rain date of June 17th.
  • Approved an amended order of election for the May 6th general election and an amended election services contract with Washington County.
  • Approved the postponement of the May 9th regular council meeting to May 16th due to the first day for newly elected officers not being able to take office until after the 12th day following an election
  • Accepted house plans submitted by Sean Dunbar to be site built at 210 North Brazos Street.
  • Accepted and approved division orders for Lessard-Jimenez AW A 1H and Lessard-Jimenez AW B 2H from GeoSouthern Operating II, LLC for decimal interest of production proceeds.
