In this episode, we come to you from a lovely public park in Bordeaux, also known as Jardin Public, to discuss a topic close to our hearts: sustainability and self-awareness in leadership. We explore the intricate relationship between self-awareness and building more sustainable companies. As leaders, understanding our impact on the environment and communities is crucial for fostering a future where businesses thrive without depleting natural resources. With its commitment to sustainability through initiatives like zero-kilometre restaurants and an efficient public transport system, Bordeaux is a perfect backdrop for this conversation.
We explore the importance of internal and external change in achieving sustainability. From the landmark case won by a group of Swiss women for climate justice to the necessity for cultural, political, and business reforms, we highlight that true sustainability begins with self-awareness. Leaders must question their beliefs, practices, and the very definition of success to create a more equitable and environmentally friendly future.
Join us as we discuss how leaders can cultivate self-awareness, become better mentors and coaches, and make conscious decisions that reduce their company’s footprint. We share insights on fostering a culture of listening to others and oneself to identify and overcome limiting beliefs and traumas that hinder sustainable practices.
Whether you’re a startup founder or a seasoned executive, this episode offers valuable perspectives on integrating sustainability into your leadership approach and business strategy. Listen to discover how you can make a meaningful impact and lead your company towards a more sustainable future.

Is it ever beneficial to intentionally send the wrong message? That’s the question that drives the conversation when Richard Bistrong, Ron Carucci, and Heather R Younger, J.D., CSP® join the ethics panel to Grapple with the Gray.
Here is our topic: Earlier this summer, a CEO and tech entrepreneur named Rob Dance ignited a firestorm on Twitter with a post titled: “Things I’m sick of hearing from my employees.” His list included: Can I leave early today? I’ll be in late this morning. My child is sick, can I rush off? I’ve got a doctor’s appointment tomorrow, is that okay? I’m going to be late back from lunch, I’ve got some things to sort.
He concludes with this pithy, editorial remark: I don’t care. Not surprisingly, the post attracted a barrage of critics, decrying his insensitivity and calling him a variety of colorful names. To which he replied with a short question: Did you finish reading the whole post? Because he concludes with these comments: “I hired you for a job and I fully TRUST you to get it done. I don’t need you to account for every single hour. Times have changed, and the workplace is different these days. People are sick of being treated like children. “All that should matter is that everyone is happy, and that the work gets done. My advice to companies: Treat your staff like adults. That’s it, that’s the big secret. Give them autonomy, respect that they have lives outside of work, don’t gaslight them into being grateful for not being fired every day. Output should always trump hours.”
One of my mantras is that Trust is the T in ETHICS. But is it wise to trust that readers will make it to the end of a provocative post and not miss the twist at the end? Does this style come across as snarky or refreshingly candid? Is it worth the risk of being misunderstood to make a critical point? And aside from style, is Rob Dance’s advice practical in a culture where so many employers complain about workers slacking off and shirking their responsibilities? And if it is, why does it seem to be so rare?
Richard Bistrong is CEO of Front-Line Anti-Bribery, LLC, assisting organizations with ethics, compliance, and anti-bribery challenges to help surface unknowns and shine a light on the real-world importance of operationalizing ethics & integrity.
Ron Carucci is the owner and managing partner of Navelent, helping organizations articulate a strategy for success, translate that strategy into results, and develop exceptional leaders along the way.

Look in the metaphorical mirror and try to view yourself as others see you. If you are brutally honest with yourself, would you marry you if you were someone else? If the answer is no, that’s a problem. Let’s fix it. This episode is not just about relationships, it’s about using “Would You Marry You?” as a standard for becoming a better version of yourself.
In this episode of The Sanity Project podcast, host Joanne Victoria speaks with Os Benari, a product management executive and author of “Starting from Scratch.” They discuss the challenges of managing change and the innovative concept of fractional work. Oz shares her insights on the audio industry and the importance of resilience in career transitions. She also explains her role as a fractional CPO and the advantages it offers. The episode delves into Os’s six-step model for change management and concludes with Joanne directing listeners to Oz’s website for further resources on career development.
Os emphasizes the importance of creating a role model for personal and professional growth and how it empowers individuals.
“Audio content is more than just a trend; it’s a landscape rich with innovation and growth. Os Benari’s stint on the advisory board of Audio Burst revealed the vibrant opportunities in this space. The audio industry’s evolution is a reminder that staying curious and open to change is key to thriving in modern career trajectories.”
“The post-COVID world has thrown the spotlight on creative career opportunities, and one that truly excites is fractional work. Its potential to reshape our professional experiences was a hot topic with Os Benari. This approach not only offers flexibility but also the chance to contribute to diverse projects. The evolving work landscape is calling, and it is ripe with possibilities for the taking.”
Episode DescriptionDaniel Packard – Full Liberation TechnologyDaniel is a U.C. Berkeley Mechanical Engineer and CEO of Permanent Anxiety Solutions who turned his painful battle with severe anxiety into a mission to innovate a permanent cure for anxiety. After 8 years and over a million dollars of research and testing (working with 3000 people on 5 continents) Daniel and his research team have succeeded in developing what he claims is the world’s only permanent anxiety solution online program with a 90% success rate, called Nervous System Reset.
The program has been so successful that the South African government asked to make Nervous System Reset a part of the national mental health curriculum. Daniel’s mission is to take a stand against the mental health industry, which in his view takes people’s money and doesn’t deliver permanent results.
It’s good to be thoughtful about the differences (which are big) between being a consumer versus a creator. Basically, every marketer and business wants to capture your time and attention – and increase your behavior as a consumer. But you’ll contribute to yourself and others – by spending your time as a creator. Being an active and engaged creator isn’t as “easy” as being a passive consumer of content, but… being a creator is what you were designed to do.

Here’s a scary thought: Saying No to someone when we’re used to saying Yes. What are you afraid of?
Many of us, especially girls, are taught that saying Yes is right, good, proper, helpful even, and saying No is just plain wrong. The problem is the more we say Yes when we mean No we forget how to make choices in our own best interest and well-being. This self-sabotage robs us of our ability to choose wisely, of our personal power, of our legitimate right to say No with clarity, confidence, and conviction.
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with agreeing to a request from certain people in our lives so long as we are not limited in our options, feeling compelled, thinking we will be rejected or worse. It takes practice to practice No. What do you get? What do you want? Name it! Claim it!
Practical Tip: A simple response to a request to take on work or favors you want to decline is to say, “No. It’s good work; but it’s not my work.”
Question: How does it feel to value and appreciate your own good self saying what you mean and meaning what you say?

This week’s theme: People Are WatchingLikes and comments can quickly become a source of obsession in the digital age we live in where social media platforms control our relationships. Even though the quantity of likes and comments may offer some validation our content’s real impact extends beyond these apparent interactions. People are watching and taking in the messages you post into the world even if they do not actively interact with your posts. Therefore it’s imperative that we carefully consider what we share and take into consideration the potential impact it may have on those who are watching.

When does character assessment become invasion of privacy? That’s the question that drives the conversation when Deb Coviello The Drop In CEO, Diane Helbig, and Raj Tut join the ethics panel to Grapple with the Gray.
Here is this episode’s ethics challenge:
A woman shows up at a company office to interview for an administrative position. Her resume is impressive, she is dressed professionally, and she enjoys a cordial and comfortable conversation with the interviewer. As the interview seems to be winding down, she feels confident and encouraged, when out of the blue the interviewer says, “May I take a look in your purse?” The candidate is caught completely off guard. When she asks why, the interviewer replies, “It’s the best indicator of a woman’s organizational character.” More bewildered than before, the candidate hands over her purse. The interviewer looks quickly through it, hands it back, then thanks the candidate for coming in and shows her the door. A few days later, she receives an email that her application was not successful.
This case, which was posted online, generated considerable speculation as to the interviewer’s motive. What did they hope to learn? Why might the candidate have been rejected? And should she have handed over the purse when asked?
Other stories include the interviewer who gives candidates a wobbly chair to see if they would speak up and ask for a different one, or the interviewer who invites candidates out for a drink to see if he can get them drunk.
Assuming that the intent is to discover insights into a candidate’s character, are these kinds of tactics ethical, or are they deceptive?
Even if they reveal what the interviewer hopes to discover, are they worth the cost in undermining trust and respect? And how should interviewees respond if they feel boundaries are being crossed by their prospective employers?
Meet the panelists: Deb Coviello, aka the Drop in CEO, is an author, speaker, podcast host, and silver medalist curler who coaches C-Suite leaders of today and tomorrow to navigate challenges with confidence. Diane Helbig is Chief Improvement Catalyzer at Helbig Enterprises, providing guidance and training to business owners and leaders around the world. Raj Tut is founder and CEO of Storyboard Living, creating communities that provide a safe, beautiful backdrop for life’s greatest moments.
Featuring Andy Bird who shares stories of how he began his career in radio before climbing the entertainment ladder to become the Chairman of Walt Disney International. The curiosity and belief that he had in the early days of his own career carried forward into recruiting others who had their own story to tell. Lessons learned from Rock and Roll!
This week’s theme: Giving ActionsRegardless of whether we receive a ‘no’ or do nothing, the outcome is the same. However, taking action creates the opportunity for a ‘yes.’ By focusing on solutions rather than problems, we can turn negativity into positivity. Instead of dwelling on rough sand at the beach, we can admire the beauty of the water.
Every day we wake up is a blessing and not guaranteed, so it’s important to focus on the positives in our lives. When you wake up, acknowledge this blessing by giving action of gratitude by appreciating the day given by God.

Are we neglecting old relationships in the hope of profiting from new ones? That’s the question that drives the discussion when Jennifer H. Elder, CSP, CPA, Jim Ristuccia, and Jon Strickler join the ethics panel to Grapple with the Gray. Here is our topic: Recently, I had enough of Charter Communications. My monthly fees kept going up, service got worse, and AT&T came around with faster service and a low rate locked in for 10 years. I signed up and then called Charter to cancel. Immediately, they offered to upgrade my service and slash my monthly fees. When I demurred, they offered me discounted cell phone service and their firstborn child. Okay, I made up that last part. A few weeks later, I called the St. Louis Post-Dispatch to cancel my mother’s subscription after the price went up to $175/ month. Same story: Please stay and we’ll cut your fees by over 50%.
The service industry is famous for offering special deals to attract new customers. But what about their old customers? Shouldn’t loyalty count for something? And don’t these special offers indicate that customers are paying more than they should be? Aren’t we better off living in a world where we cultivate loyalty rather than trying to seduce strangers to abandon long-standing relationships? Is this really the best way to do business, or would businesses do better in the long run by working harder to retain the customers they have? And even if it is best for the bottom line, what is the social cost?
Meet this week’s panelists:
Human beings are not actually hardwired for happiness. Your natural selection evolutionary brain only cares about survival and reproduction. So many of us mistakenly think “Oh if I have more money if I have more stuff if I’m married or whatever I’ll be happy then.” The truth is if you are miserable now you’re going to be a miserable rich person. But here’s the good news; you can have happiness or even better sustain contentment in life, but it’s not through external cravings.
Join us as We share our personal experiences with having our work copied and offer insights into cultivating a unique, authentic, and impactful approach to your projects and business ventures. This episode is a must-listen for anyone looking to foster genuine creativity and innovation while navigating the digital age’s opportunities and challenges.
As we navigate the complexities of AI and digitisation, we ponder the noticeable decline in human innovation and creativity. We explore the contentious issue of copying in professional spaces like LinkedIn and the broader business world, where the line between being inspired by others and outright plagiarism is often blurred. We discuss the nuances of copying as a learning tool and the importance of bringing your unique self into your work to ensure sustainability and genuine innovation. Moreover, we examine the pitfalls of taking shortcuts and the potential consequences of not giving credit where it’s due. We advocate for acknowledging sources of inspiration and for the authenticity that comes from a genuine connection to one’s work.
The conversation also touches on using AI tools like Chat GPT, emphasising the balance between human creativity and technological assistance to achieve impactful results.
Key Takeaways:
Should there be a presumption of privacy in public always, never, or sometimes? That’s the question driving the discussion when Mark Brown, CSP, Mark O’Brien, and Kimi Hirotsu Ziemski join to Grapple with the Gray! And here is our topic:
In the wake of October 7, Columbia University has taken center stage amidst concerns about campus anti-Semitism. After a May 31 open forum addressing student safety and campus culture, three college deans were suspended for exchanging dismissive texts during the program. These included vomit emojis in reference to an op-ed by a campus rabbi and the suggestion that Jewish groups were exploiting the issue to boost fundraising revenues.
Ironically, the dean who announced the suspensions was a fourth participant in the email exchanges for which the other three were suspended. He made no mention of his own involvement, but he did decry what he called an invasion of privacy by the unnamed individual who photographed the text messages from a row behind the deans.
Does he have a point? Does this constitute an invasion of privacy? The photographer claimed in an op-ed, published anonymously because of fear of reprisal, that they considered it a moral imperative to report and publicize these remarks. What if the texts had been about private medical information?
What if they had been about human trafficking? Those cases seem more black and white, and less gray. Or is the subject matter irrelevant since, perhaps, there is no presumption of privacy in a public place?
Meet the panel:* Mark Brown is a world champion international speaker, executive coach, artificial intelligence software advisor, and, most important, devoted husband of his wife Andrea. * Mark O’Brien is the founder and principal of O’Brien Communications Group, a B2B brand-management and marketing-communications firm — and host of The Anxious Voyage, a syndicated radio show about life’s trials and triumphs. * Kimi Hirotsu Ziemski is the Founder of KSP Partnership, providing project management and project leadership courses and workshops to improve team dynamics and communications.
It’s your reaction to adversity, not adversity in itself that determines how your life’s story will develop.
True! Life is uncertain with many unknowns, so living in uncertainty will need so much of Resilience and calculative human response dripped in “Surrender”. Enjoy this inspiring discussion with my special guest, Aimmee Kodachian.

How awkward is it when you figure out late in life that you are neurodivergent?I had not heard this word before I met Mariah and Byron Edgington. I had heard people talk about the different issues that stem from being neurodivergent, each with their own label. I even have a child with some neurodivergent tendencies. But I had not heard it described under this umbrella term.
So when I met Mariah and Byron and learned their story about how Mariah was diagnosed in just the past few years as neurodivergent, I became curious.
Just what does it mean to be neurodivergent? Well, it means your brain works just a bit differently than others. Wow, what a gift. Can you imagine the possibilities when you can view the same world in a light that others don’t see? What a superpower.
I’m sure this has not been the sentiment or the journey for most who find they are neurodivergent. As with any awkward part of ourselves that makes us different, it takes time to understand, accept, and then flourish.
So not knowing too much about living a neurodivergent life, I was honored to have the chance to visit with Mariah and Byron in a candid conversation about what it’s like to find out later in life that this is who you are. We discussed all the things. How does it feel to make this discovery? How does this affect your relationship? What has changed? To sum up the essence of Mariah’s sentiment it’s that this doesn’t change who she is, it just helps her better understand where she is coming from. From Byron’s angle, and I think they would both agree, it’s brought them even closer together.
My favorite insights from our conversations come in the shared moments of their relationship which has grown even stronger over time. Moments where Byron thinks his wife is being silly, or funny, to make a joke, before understanding what she is sharing is actually the way she sees the world.
Having someone love you and get to know you even as you get to know yourself has to be the ultimate in true love.
There once was a time when I believed I was stamped from a mold and then that was it. How I was would just be how I would remain. My conversation with the Edgingtons has reinforced what I have learned in the past few years: that we are all a work in progress and self-discovery.
Just what are they doing with the next part of their journey? I was waiting for you to ask. Mariah and Byron are on a mission to help people understand neurodivergence, to help people accept themselves, and most of all to journey well. Journey Well is a theme for their life and the title of just one of their books. They are professional speakers who have graced a Tedx stage, and coaches who help you work towards the best life you can live. Be sure to visit their website at the link below and download your free manifestation guide.
It was a pleasure to learn more about neurodivergence. Even more than that it was a joy to get to know two friends even closer as they opened up and shared their stories with me. Thank you so much Mariah and Byron for your inspiration. My hope is that as you walk forward you will take the lead from these two and do everything you can to Journey Well.

WE NEED STORYTELLERS, including:
At what cost can we expect others to take responsibility for our own well-being? That’s the question that the ethics panel takes up when Giovanni Gallo, Nick Gallo, and Diane Helbig join me to Grapple with the Gray.
Here is our topic: A woman posted online how she likes to bake more than she likes to eat. Although she typically shares her culinary creations with friends and family, on one occasion she asked and received permission to leave her leftovers in the common area of her apartment building with a note that anyone who wanted could help themselves. Over time, this developed into an informal tradition. Occasionally, other tenants put out their treats as well. And then it stopped. One day a neighbor knocked on the door and accused the baker of poisoning her son after she had to take the boy to the emergency room for an allergy attack because he ate a peanut butter brownie. The baker agreed to help pay for the hospital trip and stopped putting out her baked goods. When one neighbor asked why she had stopped, the baker recounted the story without mentioning the name of the mother who had complained. Subsequently , the mother returned. It seemed that the neighbors were upset with the mother and blamed her for stopping the availability of baked goods. She accused the baker of intentionally defaming her and said she would lodge a complaint with the landlord. Was the baker wrong for putting out the baked goods in the first place, or for sharing the story with a neighbor who was able to figure out which other party was involved?
In general, how far does a community have to go to accommodate individual needs rather than expecting individuals to assume a higher level of responsibility for themselves and their families?

Hello to you listening in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, England! Click HERE for more on Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, England. Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.
The salmon are running here. The ones that left our estuaries as small fry headed out into the Pacific Ocean and returned home a few years later as fully grown adults to spawn, their wild adventure at an end. Like the salmon, there have been moments in my life when I risked it all, on a dream, a vision, a hope. My risk-taking ways have rewarded me with chances I could not have taken from the comfort of an armchair. But of late I find myself feeling rusty, maybe drifting in the current, anxious to feel alive in the old way.
I know what calls me. David Whyte’s (our Whidbey Island, Washington poet laureate) poem A Song For the Salmon, gives voice to that deepest longing, to be gone again on a great journey. Perhaps it will call to you…
A Song For the Salmon
“For too many days now I have not written of the sea,
nor the rivers, nor the shifting currents
we find between the islands.
For too many nights now I have not imagined the salmon
threading the dark streams of reflected stars,
nor have I dreamt of his longing
nor the lithe swing of his tail toward dawn
I have not given myself to the depth to which he goes,
to the cargoes of crystal water, cold with salt,
nor the enormous plains of ocean swaying beneath the moon.
I have not felt the lifted arms of the ocean
opening its white hands on the seashore,
nor the salted wind, whole and healthy
filling the chest with living air.
I have not heard those waves
fallen out of heaven onto earth,
nor the tumult of sound and the satisfaction
of a thousand miles of ocean
giving up its strength on the sand.
But now I have spoken of that great sea,
the ocean of longing shifts through me,
the blessed inner star of navigation
moves in the dark sky above
and I am ready like the young salmon
to leave his river, blessed with hunger
for a great journey on the drawing tide.” [by David Whyte ]

There is an interesting correlation between life and existing. To live is to experience joy, happiness, and love. To be alive is a celebration. Unfortunately, many individuals are merely existing once they reach a certain point in their lifetime. Existing is waiting to die.
You must recognize this condition if you are to resume living. It is a type of self-inflicted punishment. It is, however, under your control. You may control your sickness. You may lift the sentence of punishment once you recognize it. The answer to the cessation of this self-abuse is self-love. You must learn to love yourself. You are worth it. You are worthy of the highest love, of joy, of happiness, and of a complete and fufilling life. Above all others, it is the self, your self, you must love the most.

In this episode of The Sanity Project podcast, host Joanne Victoria interviews Katherine Lazaruk, a leadership coach who began her career in image consulting. Lazaruk discusses her unconventional path to leadership development, emphasizing the importance of embracing one’s inner child and being open to various career possibilities. She shares her experience of building a business around her corporate job and eventually transitioning to full-time consulting, aiding clients in climbing the corporate ladder. Lazaruk also touches on the concept of “web thinking” versus linear thinking, encouraging the idea that diverse experiences can eventually interconnect to form a fulfilling career path.
Katherine’s foray into the professional world began with a vision—quite literally. During a pivotal coaching session, she experienced a flash of inspiration that would become the foundation of her first business, ICU Image Consulting. Despite the lack of regulation in the industry and the initial uncertainty, Katherine’s entrepreneurial spirit was undeterred. She leaped, balancing her corporate job with her burgeoning business, until the recession presented an opportunity to go all in.
Katherine’s background in music and education, along with her experiences in opera and teaching, shaped her multifaceted approach to life and work. She observed that few people have the luxury of a single, linear career path. Instead, most of us create a mosaic of experiences that, over time, weave together to form a unique and fulfilling professional life.

EPISODE SUMMARYIf it’s too much to manage either throttle back for a bit or manage for just 1 day.
EPISODE NOTESHello to you listening in Antioch, California! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.
Maybe you’ve heard someone caution you by saying, “You’ve bitten off more than you can chew” meaning that you might choke. Perhaps we’re being ambitious with good reason; or, maybe we’ve taken on more commitments than we can fulfill.
Right now I’m juggling this daily podcast, my robust Quarter Moon Story Arts consulting practice, Every Now & Again NewsAudioLetter, volunteer opportunities, converting Story Prompt Fridays to a book, re-learning Italian, as well as losing the Whidbey 15 that crept on during our cold, dark winter months.
It’s all good work; but you get the picture.
Maybe like me, you lie awake in the wee small hours of the morning and wonder, “How will I ever manage?”
Practical Tip: I know this to be true: I can manage for 1 day what appears to be daunting for a lifetime! Think back on all that you have overcome, achieved, accomplished, and created. If you still feel the fear of what you are facing you may choose to throttle back a bit; or, allow yourself the chance to manage for just 1 day. And then 1 more day. You will benefit. Guaranteed!

According to research, moving is one of the most stressful life events, and on average, 15.3 million American households move each year. Whether across the country, going abroad, or just down the street, preparing for (and controlling!) every detail of the moving process can be overwhelming.
The term for the fear of moving or just leaving your home is Agoraphobia.
It is a type of anxiety disorder. Moving is anxiety-inducing. A person with Agoraphobia is afraid to leave environments they know or consider to be safe. In severe cases, a person with Agoraphobia believes their home to be the only safe environment. They may avoid leaving home for days, months, or even years. Can you imagine how difficult a move would be for them? Perhaps moving is just as fearful for you. Help is here in this Video Podcast interview.
Some ways people successfully cope with Agoraphobia include breathing exercises during anxiety or progressive muscle relaxation- a systemic way to release tension in your body physically and finally, be prepared by reading A Happy Move.
Having experienced 29 of her own moves, Devra Jacobs understands firsthand what it takes to make the challenges of relocating more manageable—and how to enjoy the process along the way. After the live audience heard how many moves Devra made in the United States and overseas, one listener asked, “How many more moves before you set up a permanent home?” and “Are you planning to ever settle down?” Both audience questions help explain why Devra is the perfect person to help anyone who is considering moving down the street in the same neighborhood to Down Under in Australia.
We all experience a change in our lives, and we seldom forget a move, especially if we have not planned well. If we don’t have written guidance, we can find the moving process full of very expensive mistakes that turn out to be a waste of time and money.
Please raise your hand and say “Yes!” if you want to waste time and money. (Crickets!)
Okay, then, let’s talk about the birth of the book A Happy Move: Everything You Need to Know Before and After the Boxes are Packed by agent/author Devra Jacobs and Brit Elders, available on Amazon, published by Beyond Words, and distributed by Simon & Schuster.
“I was talking to the publisher about a client’s book, and the subject of the publisher’s pending move came up, so I gave some advice.
“You need to write a book about moving.” the publisher said.
“So I did. They published it. And here it is,” Devra said, holding up A Happy Move: Everything You Need to Know Before and After the Boxes are Packed for the audience to see.
It is a spiral-bound book filled with move worksheets like Your General Physician-allergies-Name of Doctor-Name of Clinic, etc….And General Physicians for Your Spouse/Partner/Children and even pets. Quick Checklists provide an at-a-glance overview of things to address soon after your move.
There are so many things to take care of in a move that the whole process can be quite daunting. During the interview Devra shares tips on how to pack up all your possessions to renting and driving a moving truck to reconnecting your services.
Moving can be easier than you imagined with a plan and some guidance.
When I think of moving, chaos enters my mind. Lists are a great way to avoid stress. Devra likes to have before, during, and after lists, and A Happy Move provides everything you need to add to those lists.
As a guest on Dreaming Healing, Devra Jacobs speaks to:
Devra also answered live audience questions.
The point of this article is…moving to a new home doesn’t need to be difficult. A new home signifies a new start. When you turn the key to your new house, you turn the page to a new chapter in life. Enjoy yours!

Are you good at talking to people?
Most of us do ok, but are there any situations that make you feel awkward? Like, talking to children or very opinionated people? Here are some tips, techniques, and mindsets from some of the best: A stand-up comedian, a multi-topic podcast producer and co-host, a youth-empowering “Queen of Goofiness,” and a moderator of public forums on frequently sensitive topics. A star-studded, idea-packed episode to help us all become better at communicating, listening, and talking to (almost) anyone.
Embark on a journey to conquer the common yet daunting fear of public speaking in this insightful episode of The Mind Takeaway Podcast, recorded in the heart of Poland’s capital, Warsaw. Join us as we delve into the anxieties that shroud the art of oration, from the nervous anticipation to the post-presentation self-critique that can often feel like a hangover from the vulnerability of being exposed to an audience.
Our hosts share their personal battles with the fear of public speaking, revealing how they creatively dodged speaking engagements early in their careers. Despite being comfortable in roles like musicians or DJs, the transition to speaking in front of groups, small or large, presented a unique challenge. But as they peel back the layers of their experiences, we learn that the key to overcoming this fear lies not in avoiding it, but in embracing the discomfort and leaning into vulnerability.
With candid anecdotes, they discuss the transformation from avoidance to anticipation, the strategies they tried (and which ones actually worked), and the realisation that the audience is often more forgiving than we anticipate. Whether it’s the fear before taking the stage or the critical self-reflection that follows, they explore how acceptance and presence can turn public speaking from a source of dread to an opportunity for connection and growth.
This episode is a must-listen for anyone who’s ever felt their voice wobble with nerves or their confidence shaken by the spotlight. Discover how to navigate the fear, build resilience, and perhaps even find joy in the act of sharing your voice with the world. Tune in to this encouraging discussion and remember, as our hosts affirm, no one has ever perished from public speaking – it’s all about taking that first step and allowing yourself to be imperfectly human in front of an audience.
In Season 4, episode 45, co-hosts Angela DiMarco and Dana Sardano discuss the “magic” of manifestation. Angela and Dana make light of the fact that manifestation is not about setting an intention under the moonlight and writing it in your journal and then abracadabra, it appears. They explain that to manifest something is to create it by our own doing because we are all creators of our own existence, and when we are not enjoying our life experience, we have the power to change it. Although they take this topic very seriously, they still had time to break (more than once…four times to be exact) for George Michael’s Freedom. And as always, true to form, Dana and Angela crack jokes, make merry, and embrace their potty mouths as they drop all pretenses and go commando! And for those of you who are curious, vibratore is Italian for dildo.
Our brains are wired to perceive things habitually, which means we’re often missing out on alternative perspectives. This concept isn’t just a visual trick; it mirrors a critical challenge in business. History is replete with examples where a single-minded view led to missed opportunities and innovation stagnation. And this has profound implications for creativity and business strategy. Let’s challenge our habitual ways of thinking and unlock new avenues for innovation and growth. Watch now!

Episode DescriptionI changed the name of my podcast this year to View From the Roof because I wanted to go deeper with my conversations. I believe that’s a vast understatement of what I explore in this episode with my guest Zen Benefiel.
When I met Zen at the beginning of this year, I had an experience of nothing other than pure love. He was leading a discussion and it seemed with every syllable he spoke, the room allowed for just a little bit more vulnerability and flow than they did before. The space between those syllables was the sacred, the space of a harmonious being.
As we got to know one another, I found him remarkably adept at tying big concepts together, which is something human beings are hungry for right now.
In the old paradigm, we viewed aspects of our lives in a state of separateness. Science, spirituality, religion, our careers, our bodies, our friendships, etc were things that we viewed as, for the most part, seemingly unrelated.
Even now, as society intellectually explores things like AI and UFOs – many of these concepts are filed away in our minds as “other.” And yet, what if it’s all part of the infinite intelligence?
Zen has been talking about consciousness deeply since the 70s and 80s, when his message could hardly be heard, never mind understood. I’ve been a voracious consumer of his content for a few months, and I’m honored to have him as my guest on View From the Roof. The pandemic facilitated a phenomenal opportunity for us as points of consciousness to become more aware of who we truly are. As Zen says,
We all have a perfected form, fit, and function. It’s a genetic and solar blueprint that we carry, that we have not been paying attention to because we didn’t understand the intricacies of how well-designed we are. That comes from acquiescing to allowing that flow to come, and not using the same thinking that caused our problems to solve them.
Maybe it’s time we start connecting the missing links.
I hope you’ll take an opportunity to explore some big shit with us in this episode. I find that so many of us share that deep inner knowing of who we are, and we allow whatever we think we should be to take over and keep us from ourselves. This podcast is just one more step in putting all of the things together and having it make sense. As Zen would say, “Then make sense common, so we can all rise to that level of love that we’ve been living in, that we’ve been denying for millennia.”
You can learn more about Zen by checking out all of his links below. If you don’t know where to start, I’d say check out his primary website and his show One World in a New World on YouTube.

We were born with innate curiosity and creativity. And in actuality, those capabilities were behind every advancement we’ve ever made (excepting fortuitous accidents)! While we get busy with work and life, it’s important we continue developing our creativity – even reigniting it when necessary. Our best capabilities are necessary for addressing problems and creating a better tomorrow for everyone. “Creativity involves breaking out of expected patterns in order to look at things in a different way.” – Edward de Bono How do you maintain your creativity? What do the fear of failing, the fear of making mistakes, and the fear of being criticised have in common? It feels to us that the world will end, and there won’t be any life after, so we stay stuck in our comfort zone and miss opportunities for growth and learning.
Chances are that we will fail, be criticised, and make mistakes; it would be ignorant to think that we will not experience any of these situations in life or that somehow we can prevent them from happening.
In this episode, we explore the fear of failure and questions like; what if it was OK to fail and make mistakes? What if it didn’t mean that life will end, and what if it is just another step in our experience as a human and another step in our personal and professional growth?
Peter also shares one of his significant failures during an important performance at a music showcase and how it became a valuable learning experience and sparked more opportunities in the future.

ABOUT THIS EPISODEFrom Fear to Fire: Secrets to Overcome Fear, Embrace your Gifts, and Achieve Success. This is the place where real people share real challenges. Where you can find a common bond and uncommon wisdom through their stories. Use tips from the breakthroughs of others to jump-start your success. Speaker, author, adventurer, and host Heather Hansen O’Neill takes you on the journey from fear to fire. Today we talk about conscious transformation and the desire to feel at home within it.
This week’s theme: Conscious TransformationPeople are creatures of habit, and change can be uncomfortable and challenging to accept even if it is a positive change. When we go through transformation, it can be disorienting and frightening. We want to feel like we belong in our new environment, and that we can call it our home where we feel loved and cared for. To feel at home in our transformation requires time and work, but it is doable with creativity and resiliency. We can develop a sense of home and comfort by exploring, interacting with, and personalizing our new environment.

Mark Nelson O’Brien is a thinker and does something about it. He writes. “A popular expression says Everybody’s got a story- I’m luckier than most, I have many.” (descriptor for Random Thoughts: A Writer’s Notebook). His writing and conversations dig deep into the territory of entertainment and inspiration.
Our conversation/storytelling session with Mark will be chockful of stories that invite interpretation and fun! Mark tells us stories of being unfocused and confused – and yet “never afraid of change” – He just knew he was not cut out for corporate bureaucracy. Not good at being anonymous or invisible. And that’s worked out just fine.
Who is Mark O’Brien? Mark Nelson O’Brien is the principal of O’Brien Communications Group (obriencg.com), a B2B brand-management and marketing firm he founded in 2004. Episode Summary3 tips to help you clarify what’s heard and said in a conversation.
Episode NotesHello to you listening in Weatherford, Texas!
Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.
A man drives into a filling station and asks the attendant to fill the tank with gas. The attendant sees 3 penguins standing on the back seat of the car and tells the man, Hey! You should take those penguins to the zoo. The man says, Good idea! And drives away.
About a week later the same man returns to the filling station and asks the attendant to fill the tank. The attendant sees the same 3 penguins but now they’re wearing sunhats, sunglasses, and beach sandals. He says, Hey! I thought I told you to take those penguins to the zoo! I did, replied the man, And we had such a good time today we’re going to the beach!
Practical Tip: We think we know it all, don’t we? Most of us haven’t heard the half of it when we speak with others. Conversation is a mutual exchange. To have clarity in our conversations let’s begin by asking ourselves:
What did they say?
What did I hear?
Was it the same, or different?

We came across the principles behind clarity back in 2015. Since then, it has transformed our personal lives and allowed us to have more impact in our work with leaders, teams, and organisations.

Diane is a story artist. She’ll tell you a story to ‘listen a story out of you’. For example, she muses “Remember the first time you rode a bike and took your hands off the handlebars? And then because it felt fun and scary you did it again until you were streaking down a hill with the wind blowing in your face and your hands up over your head screaming, “Look ma! No hands!” That’s been the story of my life. Showing up – maybe scared but not afraid – because you fall down 7 and get up 8.”
As Ipek Williamson (Insight Coach and Meditation Teacher) commented “Being in her presence is like quenching your thirst that you didn’t even know you had with infinitely refreshing water.” We’ll be covering and discovering connectedness, community, creativity, and potentially how to discover what real honest dyed-in-the-wool leadership presence looks like to us.
A recognized global podcaster, (Stories From Women Who Walk & Daily 60 Seconds) Diane shares wisdom and interviews designed to help others become successful story creators; a Speaker and Founder of Engaged Storyism® Method, and Quarter Moon Story Arts (her consulting space), Diane helps people find the words, they didn’t know they had so they can get their marketing, messaging, presentation, origin story image out of their head and into the world to connect & succeed.
Today we talk about neurodivergence and understanding that you are more than enough.
This week’s theme: NeurodivergenceNeurodivergence, also known as neurodiversity, is an umbrella term for various neurological conditions and cognitive differences. Despite the challenges, many neurodivergent people have unique strengths that can be used to make a meaningful and productive contribution to society.
Neurodivergence is not a deficit, but rather a benefit. People who are neurodivergent have a special set of abilities, perspectives, and strengths that are frequently overlooked in conventional educational and professional settings. Creating a friendly and inspiring environment is crucial if we want neurodivergent people to realize their full value and potential. This entails giving people access to resources, assistance, and comprehension. It’s also critical to acknowledge the distinctive skills that people with neurodiversity can bring to the table. By doing this, we may build a more accepting culture of many viewpoints.

Episode SummaryBe inspired by the potential of this book, Ascending at the Speed of Surrender by Zen Benefiel; a timely piece for peace and harmony among people and planet.
Episode NotesHello to you listening in Hickory, North Carolina! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.
My very grounded astral friend and colleague, Zen Benefiel, has published a book entitled Ascending at the Speed of Surrender. As he wrote to me: “I’m going into realms most don’t travel with this one.”
What could he mean? Zen is a world-bridger. His work embraces the process of a planetary civilization in evolution and the “other-worldly” help it receives along the way. If you are someone who looks deeply into the conundrum of the human condition and finds answers beyond your scope of understanding Zen can help. How? Research, a lifetime of personal interactions with non-human intelligence, and the willing suspension of belief systems about so-called inner and outer realities to investigate our collective quest for a better world.
Instead of holding back out of fear of rejection, Zen chose to Be the Dream, the dream that he has been living, to share what he has learned. I hope you’ll be inspired by the potential of his book, a timely piece for peace and harmony among people and planet.

BIO
Orphaned at birth and six weeks later adopted on the anniversary of his adoptive parents, Bob and Lou Benefiel, Bruce was curious and explored questions few could understand, let alone answer.
Zen has four children, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren that inspire his efforts to make a better world. He currently lives in Arizona with his wife Luba, an extraordinary classical pianist and music/piano teacher from St. Petersburg, Russia. Zen has played golf and drums, his two favorite pastimes, since his youth. His favorite music to play is improvisation with a progressive jazz/latin/rock mixture.
The moniker of ‘Zen’ came from one the crew of a TV show he produced and hosted called One World. The concept interview is on this author’s page in the video area. Zen was a guest on Dr. Jeffrey Mishlove’s New Thinking Allowed which came about in a serendipitous sequence in 2018, fulfilling a 28-year dream come true scenario. Hosting One World, Zen’s host/interview favorites to emulate were Dr. Mishlove and Bill Moyers, with hopes of someday being worthy of an interview with one of them.
Luba’s first Christmas present in 2017, an Ancestry.com subscription, brought another gift in January 2019, Zen was reunited with his birth mother. A synchronistic event through a friend with skip-tracing software also led to realizing he’d met is birth father in Phoenix in the late 80s, unbeknownst to either, at a UFO conference. Now that is some spooky cool action up close and personal.
Giving his wife credit for beginning again, he hosts a new version One World in a New World , coming off a 30-year hiatus, engaging apocalyptic chats with professionals and thought leaders. It’s unique in peering into the bridging of inner and outer worlds

SummaryThere’s a lot of talk about why organizations need to have a purpose beyond a mere marketing tagline: why they do what they do on behalf of those they seek to serve. What’s equally challenging to get at is how an organization defines its why, how they get staff buy-in — or better yet, staff input — and then has the discipline to choose activities that work towards fulfilling it.
I’m never saying that the lack of a real purpose is the only problem that causes organizational dysfunction. But it is one of the most foundational ones because people are looking to contribute with their roles.
— Brooke Erol
My guestMy guest to help walk us through this topic is Brooke Erol. Brooke is a corporate dropout who pursued her dream of having more meaningful work for herself and others where we are not only seeking money but also contributing to a bigger cause. All her life is spent on writing, speaking, coaching, and consulting on this topic of having a life of fulfilling and purposeful work. She works both with individuals- YourBestLife and organizations – Purposeful Business, Inc.
Takeaways√ Many businesses focus on profits over purpose instead of figuring out how to do both.
√ An organization’s pain point is not necessarily an expressed lack of purpose, but lack of purpose is often the driver below the surface.
√ Leaders at the highest point of an organization — founder, and CEO — must have a deep consciousness to understand the imperative of having and living a purpose fully.
√ Companies often face a litmus test as to whether they are going to honor their purpose in their decision-making,
√ Customers and job seekers should monitor a company over time to see if it adheres to its purpose.
√ The number one reason for the purpose to stick is the 100% commitment of the CEO or the founder.
√ Instead of trying to save the whole world, find one area where you can have an impact, and let that be your purpose.

In life, we are rarely if ever handed our dreams and aspirations, oftentimes we must work our fingers to the bones and burn the midnight oil just to be able to stand at the starting line. In the end or maybe even halfway through we realize that all our perseverance and determination was worth it.
In this episode, Sarah Elkins and the venerable Pauline Joseph discuss the importance of staying true to one’s self despite all trials, because we know we can offer the world something amazing.
HighlightsFinding the perfect moment for You. It’s okay to take pride in your hard work. Leading the way for others.

So Sybil Cummin is the friend of a friend. She lives in Colorado, and she has quite a story. “Knock on any door” as people say. She is a very accomplished gymnast, outstanding student, and a recovering perfectionist. She takes herself not-too-seriously. Which is very important because her field is domestic violence and narcissistic abuse. Part of how she opened my eyes was when she focused on how much domestic abuse has risen during COVID, and especially how it has been underreported. It didn’t occur to me that someone who is a victim of abuse cannot call for help if s/he is in lockdown with the abuser. She also works with little ones, who seem to be doing much better than teenagers under the cloud of the virus. We have a wonderful and very moving conversation as we explore I might be a couple drops in the bucket.

“Sometimes I think you believe in me more than I do,” said the boy.
“You’ll catch up,” said the horse
You feel it, too, don’t you? That same sense that we rely on another’s sturdy hand until we are ready to see and believe what they see and believe in us. We will catch up. We do catch up. And, then we can offer our sturdy hand to another. Because “Each One Lift One!” is how we roll here!

If you have recently been promoted or plan to step up into a more senior leadership position in 2023, these are the three areas you can focus on first to set you up for success and avoid burnout.
Reassessing your boundaries is essential. Still, it is one of the main challenges our Executive Coaching clients face when they take on a new role, which is always different from what they experienced in their previous position. Ignoring this will only lead to further challenges in the future.
Gaining awareness about what gives you energy and what takes it away will pay off massively in the future as you become aware of how to recharge during your busy week and learn how to mitigate too many energy-zapping tasks or activities. And lastly, many leaders often overlook prioritising self-care, scheduling breaks, allowing for downtime, and headspace to think and be creative. Without self-care, you can only be an empty shell of a human being and not be the leader your teams deserve.

I’ve known my friend Gene, a former US Navy hospital corpsman, many years since we served together at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Gene’s eyesight isn’t what it used to be but fortunately, the Veterans Affairs offers skills training, products and services to help him better navigate obstacles that come with living daily life. All this takes place on a hospital campus where military veterans come to spend a few weeks or more.
Some of those military veterans are totally blind as well as new to the VA facility. One task is to learn how to get around the campus, and figure out how to make it from the dorms to the mess hall to classes. Gene said that he remembered when he got lost finding his way around. And he remembered being told that he could not say, “I am lost” when he asked for help. Instead, he was encouraged to say, “I am exploring new territory. And I need a little help.”
Story Prompt: What if we saw our lives through different lenses? What if we decided we are not lost, only exploring new territory? How might that change our perspective? Write that story!
Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something. All that matters is you have a story.
You’re invited: “Come for the stories – stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you’ll subscribe, follow, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! Here’s what you will discover in the Brand New Episode:
If I am not allowed to laugh in heaven, I don’t want to go there.
~ Martin Luther
It takes a community to raise consciousness. In this time of wondering, worrying, wandering, and warrioring for a new sensibility about home and place in challenging times, we can use, quiet spaces to take a breather – little refuges from the intense winds of calamity, where we ponder more reflective questions.
Questions like: ”What could possibly bring a smile to my lips?”
The ability to smile holds the key to healing humour, this is key to healing humour, the kind of humour attitude Susan has dedicated herself to archiving, cultivating, elevating, and instilling in herself and all those she comes into contact with. A humour attitude can include multiple sorts: of humour: Exaggeration, irony, verbal, visual, auditory, physical, healing, you-had-to-be-there, and magic? Which does she prefer? Those who know her, know her response – “All of them please, all of them, from a subtle smile to a belly laugh – that-brings-tears-to-my eyes-and a snort-to-my-nose!!”
Who is Susan Sneath? (aka the Halloween Lemur)As you know by now, Susan Sneath is really very quiet and subdued…when she sleeps! When she’s awake she takes the business of humour very seriously – she loves to laugh. A Healing Humour Attitude is the kind she devotes herself to, because it helps us all remember that life is never quite as serious as we might suppose and yet more precious than we ever dare take for granted for an instant.
Points covered in this episode – seriously!
How putting a humor attitude to work in our lives can mean to…
1 – Be open-minded, playful, and/or to create an atmosphere that brings a smile to your lips and releases tension
2 – Make someone’s day
3 – Be a productive, resourceful leader, present for yourself and others
4 – Proactively choose your attitude and style of communication
As the saying goes: “Remember If you can find humour in anything, you can survive it.”
A Gratitude Attitude puts us in the Flow of Abundance, to the place of Miracles where the Law of Attraction lives. Oh, give thanks! Are you ready to stop rowing your boat up the stream and start to go with the flow? Experience the joy that comes from the miracle of letting-go-and-letting-God by allowing your Guardian Angels to guide you to the Miracle of Abundance on the River of Gratitude. Don’t worry. Your Guardian Angels know the way.
Our Guardian Angels are always with us, but when they answer prayers and requests as simple as, “Parking Angel, please help!” does your gratitude ever defy words? Do you want to break out in song and sing their praise in thanks? That is what my Dreaming Healing Video Podcast guests did. Yup! They sang their gratitude at the end of the show, posted below for your viewing pleasure. Rev. Wanda Butler and Rev. Jon Scott of First Unity Spiritual Campus St. Pete, FL. lived their gratitude by explaining the Gratitude Attitude in detail so you can join in the joy, shift into a Gratitude Attitude, go with the flow, and thrive despite a life-and-death crisis like illness. Oh, give thanks!
When diagnosed with breast cancer recurrence, I felt frightened and alone for an excellent reason; few women survived advanced-stage recurrence. But it did not take long to realize I was never alone and that we are never alone. We are all born with Guardian Angels. We are their job, and they take their job seriously.
Angels guide us in our dreams. Our dreams are the umbilical cord that reaches through the Sacred Doorwaysof space and time to Divine Messages that connect us to God.
After years of treatment that made me sicker than the disease, I finally let go and let God. I let go of the struggle to row upstream and let God take over my crisis with the words, “I surrender myself to You. Do with me as You will. Thy will be done!” My complete surrender allowed an army of angels to take the ores, row me gently down the stream of life, attract the right people to me at the right time, and manifest the miracle of a complete recovery. Oh, Give Thanks!
There is only one rule: The Rule of Permission. To receive, you must ask. Why? Because the Rule of Permission does two crucial things.
Firstly, it does not allow for interference between realms, no matter how noble the action, and ensures that we know what we want.
“Know what I want?” You may say, “Of course, I know what I want!”
How often have you received “help” from a well-meaning family member, workmate, or friend that was not what you wanted? Perhaps you thought they were interfering while they felt helpful. Did it create an awkward situation or, worse, the end of a relationship? What If… they had asked permission. If only… you had expressed exactly what you wanted. Perhaps….
Secondly, The Rule of Permission keeps your angels on track for what you do and do not want and you in gratitude. And a Gratitude Attitude keeps the blessings flowing.
I learned these Permission and Gratitude Lessons while praying for guidance to survive advanced cancer recurrence that was first diagnosed in my dreams by Heavenly Intervention and then validated by medical pathology reports. My angels used diagnostic, prophetic, and guided dreams to share profound healing and nutritional information that guided me to full recovery.
Because of Angelic Intervention, I am alive today to share my gratitude story and podcast with you. I did not go into remission or learn how to live with cancer. Heavenly Intervention and my Gratitude Attitude healed me. I have been cancer free for almost 25 years and live a life of abundance. It’s a miracle. I give thanks!
So, the next time you need help with something as insignificant as finding a parking space or something as profound as saving your life, raise your voice by word or song to Heaven. Specify your request to your Guardian Angels, or dare to surrender to God. Go with the flow. And remember, a Gratitude Attitude is a powerful power behind the flow, so, Oh, Give Thanks!

My goal in writing an obituary is to tell a story. I want to make sure I detail the most significant parts of someone’s life — what made them special.
– Richard Goldstein
Why this episode mattersWhen I was a young teen, I often found my father at the kitchen table in the morning, buried in the obituary section of the Chicago Tribune. As a kid, I thought it was morbid to read about dead people. But those pages and the business section were as much a part of his breakfast as was that bowl of Grape Nuts and cup of coffee. And while I was curious about his motivation, I never asked.
Reflecting on that experience, maybe I knew why all along because later in life, when I was teaching screenwriting as part of an adult education program, I assigned obituaries to my students to help them develop complex and interesting characters. As part of a screenwriter’s tool kit, obituaries are, perhaps, the quintessential example of that utility infielder of expressions — “You can’t make this stuff up” — because, well, you can’t make this stuff up.
Many people mistakenly equate obituaries with death notices, but, as we’ll hear in this episode, obituaries are not tales of death; they are tales of life. They are the CliffsNotes of someone’s identity and relevance. And as much as we know we shouldn’t, we are drawn to them as mirrors, which we figuratively stand in front of and ask, “How does my life compare to this individual’s?”
Yes, maybe that’s what my father was up to all those mornings.
My guestMy guest today is Richard Goldstein. Since joining the New York Times in 1980, Richard worked as an editor and an obituary writer, focusing on figures from the military and sports world. He left full-time journalism in 2007, but he has continued to contribute obituary profiles to The Times. He found writing obits — “akin to presenting capsules of history since the lives of many of my subjects evoked their eras.”
What could be just factual lifeless tellings of a person’s life, Richard’s obits instead read like mini works of art — they are literature worthy of their subject. Let’s find out how he works his magic.
And just to be clear, when we talk about obituaries, we’re not talking about death notices that tell you who the deceased is survived by, where and when the viewing is, and where to send flowers or donations. We’re talking about feature-length articles that tell the story of someone’s life.

ActivityMy friend and communication coach, Diane Wyzga, suggested a very relevant activity in a recent episode of her daily “60 Seconds” podcast: “What Are the Three Ways We Die and What Is the One Way We Live?”
“Let’s imagine that you are gone. Let’s imagine that someone is telling a story about you, a good story, a memorable story, a keeper of a story. What is it? What would they say?”
Many times in life we do everything within our power to achieve our goal, whether that be a new job, to bring pride to others or ourselves, and to finally get over that hurdle our mental health has been lately. It’s easy to forget how far you’ve come when you see how far you still have left to go, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate your accomplishments now.
In this episode, Sarah Elkins and her good friend Megan Miller discuss the importance of allowing yourself to change and to celebrate every victory, no matter how small, because those victories are proof of your success.
HighlightsSharing vulnerable personal information without any intention doesn’t help you. Sometimes you don’t notice how much things change until you step back or get an outside perspective. Celebrate the wins. You get out what you put in.

OPENING QUOTE:
Just like when I joined the workforce as a grad and I had a great experience, making sure that people who join us have a great experience, as well. So yeah, it’s quite the journey, and then one we’re very much still on and learning every day.

GUEST BIO:Asesh Sarkar is the Global CEO and Co-founder of Salary Finance. Salary Finance is a fast-growing FinTech company which enables employees to receive wage advances to help them pay off their debts faster and save towards their financial goals, operating in both the UK and US. It’s been featured twice by Forbes as one of the leading socially responsible startups and as one of the five fast-growing businesses to watch. It’s also already become a Harvard case study. Across the UK and US, Salary Finance is used by 500 top employers and available to around 4 million people.
CORE TOPICS + DETAILS:[4:38] –Four Things Great Leaders & Bosses Do
Lessons from Asesh’s first great mentor
Asesh recounts the boss who played the role of a coach in his early career, providing him with four key gifts— autonomy, a listening ear, the feeling of being valued, and flexibility. With these four tools, a coach gives a person much more than any domineering, hard-charging boss could ever provide.
[17:42] – The Model of Reciprocation
You don’t have to be an extrovert to thrive
If you genuinely go out and show other people that you are interested in helping them, you don’t have to be an extrovert to thrive in business. If somebody reaches out to help you, and you are happy to help them, it’s often as simple as that. Build authentic trust-based relationships where people know that you are not just in it for a transactional benefit, and your reputation will reflect that. Meanwhile, people that have a history of transactional-based interactions get a reputation for having transactional-based interactions. The number of people who genuinely want to work with them declines over time.
[28:31] – Combining Social Intent with Business Acumen
Asesh’s formula for impact
Asesh shares his vision for an organization with the greatest positive role in the world: the best talent working on problems which can make a real impact in society, combined with a commercial model which means it is commercially scalable and can raise capital to do it at a big, big scale. This idea of business with social purpose is what inspired him to go all-in on Salary Finance.
[50:12] – Asesh’s Message to Leaders
Learning to cut the line
There’s always more work than there is time in the day. It’s rarely a bad decision to cut the line and stop work time a bit further, then use that extra time to spend with colleagues and form human relationships. It makes you better, it makes them better, and everyone performs better as a result. Focus on relationships and watch performance soar.

What’s our history of aging at home and what kind of caregiving will we need today? How can we make the home a creative stage set for the last third of life? Catherine Fitzgerald is one of the contributors to back2different who had a ‘straight’ career – linear, climbing the corporate ladder, that kind of thing, and then realized it wasn’t working. So off she went, fear, courage, determination, and possibilities in hand, and made her own thing. She’s business-focused, and she has discovered that we can redefine ‘profit’ to exclude ‘dehumanization.’ She helps people find their own, and others around them, paths that tie value to humanity, and she understands that “leaders are not doers, they’re the developers of doers.” Bravo. We have a great romp that explores lots of byways and sideways, as we agree that my humanity does not diminish my value. Enjoy!
Why this episode matters
Let’s talk about that word, “curiosity.” I think a lot about curiosity. You could say, I’m curious about being curious. Being curious naturally forces us to slow down, to take ourselves off the autopilot or cruise control mode that is daily life for most of us. Being curious encourages us to engage more meaningfully with others at work, at home, and at school. As we’ll hear in this series, being curious lays several other key benefits right at our feet.
I’ve asked several people to come on the show in this series to talk very briefly about an aspect of their life that makes them tilt their heads in curiosity and want to figure out how to satisfy it. My goal here is to have you, my listeners, experience a spark of curiosity and maybe disengage your own autopilot.
What I really find fascinating and baffling and endlessly amusing is how much we are a product of our contexts and how we grew up and where we grew up. And the systems that dictated how society worked, where we grew up.

Episode SummaryWhere do you go to be filled with light and to shine?
Episode NotesHello to you listening in Istanbul, Turkey!
Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga. The splendid green leaves of summer are slowly giving way to the more subtle golds and russets of fall. At higher elevations, you might find vibrant reds and purples. No matter the season or the reason I find myself most at home among the trees. Perhaps they beckon to you as well to come, stay awhile.
This from Mary Oliver:
“When I am among the trees, they give off such hints of gladness.I would almost say that they save me, and daily.I am so distant from the hope of myself,in which I have goodness, and discernment, and never hurry through the worldbut walk slowly, and bow often.
Around me the trees stir in their leavesand call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches.
And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say,
“You too have come into the world to do this,to go easy, to be filled with light, and to shine.”
[Mary Oliver, poet]
Question: Where do you go to be filled with light and to shine?
