Hear about the early days of the farm worker movement from the perspective of a young boy growing up in a seminal family pushing for civil rights for the people who grow and harvest our food. At the tender age of 7, the march from Delano to Sacramento was was when Rudy first began to understand that family past time was something remarkable. Rudy's own activism began early, when he helped advocate for better food in his middle school Cafeteria.
Rudy grew up to become a bus driver as a young adult, working to support his growing family. He later became a Union Shop Stewart, served as a union executive, federal mediator, and even on the management side of the bargaining table, handling contract negotiations for BART. Rudy shares stories not only of the patient mentoring of his famous uncle, but also the electric times he grew up in, when it seemed anything was possible and ordinary people of all stripes were engaged in advocating for a better, more just world.
