Today Sarah speaks with Dr. Ariana Vigil, a professor in the Women’s and Gender Studies department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ariana researches Latinx culture and literature and shares her unconventional path to becoming a professor (hint: much of it was accidental!) and what it’s like to be a Latina academic in a predominantly white institution. Ariana also shares feelings of isolation throughout her career, how she balances being a single mother with her busy workload, and how getting tenure has impacted her work habits.
