The aim is to have the EHDS up and running in 2025, though Iveta Nagyova, president of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) described this as “quite ambitious”.

Making data fair, findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable across the EU is not an easy task, when Europe’s health information systems are diverse and countries are at different stages of digitalisation, not forgetting loopholes in digital literacy.

But this is not only about technology – it is about trust.

“EHDS will also have to be transparent to ensure the privacy of personal information included in EHDS,” Nagyova said.
