Our identity is basically what shapes our being. Our thoughts, actions, way of speech, language, religion, political views, gender, the environment where we are raised…and many more are aspects of what shape someone’s identity.
The major aspect always remains one: culture. Our cultures vary and they are A LOT. Sometimes, because we are used to the one culture we came from, when we rapidly transfer to a place that has many people of different cultures and/or backgrounds, we lose our own. We tend to act as others do, eat the way they do, talk the way they do, and believe stuff others do…even when it was impossible for us to do any of that if we were raised in only one culture.
This act is called: culture shock. It’s common and happens to people who disconnect rapidly from their culture and go somewhere where a lot of cultures exist together.
"Identity Theft" is our episode 5 in season 1, where we discuss how our identity can get affected by diversity with our two guest speakers Yosef Basem and Tasneem Aly, who study in the African Leadership Academy; an academy that has more than students from more than 45 countries.
