Sleep is a naturally recurring state of mind and body, characterized by altered consciousness, relatively inhibited sensory activity, reduced muscle activity and inhibition of nearly all voluntary muscles during rapid eye movement sleep, and reduced interactions with surroundings.
Sleep is an essential function that allows your body and mind to recharge, leaving you refreshed and alert when you wake up. Healthy sleep also helps the body remain healthy and stave off diseases. Without enough sleep, the brain cannot function properly.
Yet some don’t use “sleep” for just recharging their tired bodies. Some use it as an escape plan from anxiety, stress, sadness and the list goes on.
"The Sleep Pill" is our episode 4 in season 2, where we discuss how sleep is not just an escape from emotional stress.
