Jesus was outside the land of Israel. It was one of the few times that he journeyed outside the boundaries of his nation. This part of the gentile world had Jewish communities, but the paganism of the gentiles was evident to all with their Greek ways and worship of idols. There was also bad blood between the people of this area and the Jews in Galilee.
