Bonds can be an important piece of retiring with confidence.  Bond funds had a phenominal run in the 1980s & 1990s as interest rates decreased.  Then, as interest rates remained low, there weren't a ton of great opportunities for bond investors.  Now, with interest rates rising, we have some excellent opportunities for bond investments, but we must know what we are doing to not be negatively impacted by those rising rates.
