Chapter Nine: The first eight chapters provided us with an important framework for the spiritual makeup of the human being. Now we delve right into the pivotal  discussion of human experience.

Two key factors emerge from the first eight: 1. We are each endowed with two distinct souls, with distinct personalities and distinct ambitions. 2. Each of these two uniformly have two components to them: their immutable substance and their mutable expressions. 

These two elements vastly differ from each other in the human experience. The substance, structure and personalities of each soul - set in stone as they are - co-exist in the person at every moment. The expressions of each soul, on the other hand, are in a zero-sum dead lock for only one of them can manifest in the body at any given moment.

This leaves us with two key takeaways as we journey through the next faze of Tanya: 1. The struggle is as real as having two completely distinct and independent people at odds inside of you. Its there to stay so don't struggle with the struggle. 2. Your external personality as a person is dominated by only one of them at a time. Its in your hands to control which one.
