The Confucius ideology has been ingrained in East Asian culture for thousands of years. It's just a part of us now. Confucius believed that good education would change people for the better. "The only way for the superior man to civilize the people and establish good customs is through education"

Confucius emphasized the importance of acquiring knowledge and valued an education based on competitive examinations and meritocracy.

​​On the contrary, Mencius thought that studying is developing an idealistic human, which is a human that his natural mind of kindness is preserved, and to accomplish greatness to be a saint himself.

It gets even more ironic that Mencius spoke very negatively about tight competition, one of the key elements that made Asians so called 'smart’.
