Why do we make goal setting so hard?

If it's too big of a goal, we get intimidated and want to give up. If it's too small of a goal, we blame ourselves if we don't hit it. If it's too specific, we limit ourselves to what we're actually capable of.

There's a better way reach your goal.

In today's episode, I'm sharing the way I reach my goals by setting more expansive goals.

This puts less pressure on you to reach the goal and allows you to think of more creative ways to reach your goal.

In this episode you'll learn:

  • how to set expansive goals
  • how setting expansive goals allows you to be more creative with your solutions to reach them
  • how Gary V believes that setting goals with a number limits your capacity to receive
  • how being grateful for what you have only gives you more of what you want

If you want more help with setting a goal and crushing it in 6 weeks, then join See It In 6, where I'll help you set an expansive goal and help you crush it along the way. Get all of the info on my Instagram @jennireher.

And if you try this way of goal setting, then send me a message there too! I'd love to hear from you.

Want to know how to reach your big goal for your business in 6 weeks? In today's episode, I'm showing you exactly how to do it in my new program called, "SEE IT IN 6." Over the next 6 weeks, you'll actually see me trying to reach my goal of having daring entrepreneurs like you sign up to join this new 1:1 coaching program. Look, this will be raw footage and here's why it's important. I think it's important to see what happens behind the scenes, the good and the bad. Everyone shares their highlight reel, right? But hardly anyone shows you the bad stuff. And that's important for you to see. Because if you've tried to reach a goal before, you know it's not all hearts and bunnies and rainbows. It's hard and full of failures and mistakes. I want you to get a front row seat to see you're not alone, plus practice what I preach. Why 6 weeks?6 weeks is the perfect time to give yourself to reach a goal. It's not too long - like 12 weeks or even a year, and it encourages you to take action and keep things moving on a daily basis. You can build momentum this way to tackle your goal faster. It also helps you to laser focus on just one goal for one period of time. Honestly, it's not really about achieving the goal. It's about the progress you're making and proving to yourself that you can do this. Even if you haven't tried it before or haven't achieved a goal before. It means you can look back and see, week after week, all the progress you have made and hold yourself accountable (along with my help if you want it!) to keep going throughout the 6 weeks. How do you do it?You can learn it all for free - just follow me @jennireher on Instagram to see my journey over the next 6 weeks. I have a highlight on my page called See it in 6 with all of the Reels, Stories, posts, everything I've documented, in one place so you can easily follow along and incorporate some or all of these ideas to reach your goal. Of course, once the program opens, you'll be able to join to get guidance and support from me. Because sometimes we need help from someone who's done it to guide us in the right direction and hold us accountable along the way. So be sure to follow me on Instagram @jennireher to get all of the free stuff and more information about the program. If you follow me from this episode, be sure to DM me on Instagram and let me know!

Do you need to get a job while you're starting your business or trying to get your business to take off?

Some friends and family will encourage you to do so, especially if your business isn't making any money, or you might even feel like you "should" because this whole entrepreneurial thing is hard. Getting a 9-5 or even just working part time would be so much easier, right?

In this episode, I want to normalize the fact that getting a job while you're building your business is totally okay. In fact, I encourage it because it takes the pressure off of your new business and you. You can still make money while you're trying to get your business off the ground, and there's no shame in that.

I'm sharing my experience with getting a part-time job when I started my first business (even the one I have now!) and how it benefitted me in so many ways.

Everything happens for a reason, and I promise you will find the reason for taking a full or part time job will be greater than you ever imagined because it will help prepare you for what's next.

Today I'm talking about the difference between an outlandish goal in your personal life (a Why Not dream) vs having goals in your business. When you have a Why Not dream, you think of all the ways you could reach your goal. Even though it seems like a crazy goal to have because it's unlikely you'll reach it, your brain still thinks of ways to make it happen. Your brain will tell you things like, "Why not try this and see if it works?" "Okay if that doesn't work, why not try this?" And then you'll keep trying different things, as an experiment, to see what works and what doesn't work. This comes from the excitement of thinking that it "might" be possible. You don't care if you fail when you try to reach your goal, and you just keep trying because it's fun.  But this is opposite from what happens in your business. You set a goal, and instead of feeling excitement, it feels overwhelming. You're afraid to try because it seems like you'll never get there. Or when you do try and it doesn't work out, you want to quit. This is why we need to think about our businesses more like a Why Not dream. Why not try something and see if it works? And why not keep trying until it does?In this episode, you'll learn how to think of your business differently, and keep going whenever something doesn't work out. If you like this episode, be sure to rate it here.Follow me on Instagram here.Out of inspiration or ideas to try in your new business? Do you have personal goals this year?

I'm a major workaholic and have a hard time separating my life from my businesses. I've said no to plans, spending less time with family and friends all because I'm "busy." But this year, I'm setting personal goals to help me get out of the rut. I'm dedicated to stepping away by doing the things I love.

That's why I encourage you to set personal goals for the year, too. You'll be happier, feel more fulfilled and less prone to burnout.

And these aren't things like "lose 10 pounds." They're goals that are more based on finding the joy in your life, and doing things that are important to you. So at the end of this year, you can look back on 2023 and be proud of what you accomplished in your personal life (even if it's just to rest more!).

In this episode, I'm sharing a few of the personal goals I've set for 2023 to help you get inspired to set your own, too. Remember: your life comes first. Business second. So make the most of your life while you can. Your business will always be there.

Today we're talking about something that is super important to do when you're starting your new business:

Being okay with the fact that everyone else is doing the same thing you are.

When we start our businesses, we're excited! We KNOW that our business will be amazing!

Until...we start to realize that everyone else is already doing what we're doing. We think: everyone else is better than we are, and we don't know as much as we thought we did and then we start to question what we're even doing anymore, and why should we even try to start a new business anyway.

And this stops our new business before we even get started. Because we're comparing ourselves to everyone else who's doing the same thing.

In this episode, I'm sharing the facts that set you apart from all the people who are doing the exact same thing you're doing.

Because the truth is, no one is you. No one has your personality, your experience, your story. The only competition you have is you and your own thoughts.

Also, a lot of people say you should know who your competition is and who you're competing against.

But I say, ignorance is bliss. And the more you can put your blinders on when starting your new business, the better. Knowing who your competition is only makes you NOT want to start your business because then you start the whole compare and despair issue. And we all know that's no fun and only leads you to freak out and think you're not good enough because everyone else is better than you.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why taking risks is actually a good thing
  • Why every no gets you closer to a yes
  • Why you're the only thing that matters to your customers or clients
  • How to keep your blinders on and not look at the competition
