As a founder, Sharad Varshney believed that employees from marketing, sales, IT, human resources, and other departments, could do their jobs better if they could develop insights from data across the organization. Varshney graduated with a degree in nuclear engineering from IIT Kanpur in India but shifted his focus to working in computer science. He moved to Atlanta in 2003 and began working in asset management and later as a principal architect with Hortonworks. Toward the end of his time at Hortonworks, Varshney was looking to be a part of the next big technology revolution in data.
