Strong emotions happen. Even during seated practice. When this happens, the instruction might be to just let the story of the emotion be there and then come into a more felt sense of the string emotion. Does this emotion have a tension to it? Does is feel hot or cold? Can we leave the story and be more curious about how the emotion feels in our body? Could we adjust and breathe in such a way as to accommodate more difficult sensations? When we notice the story is there, we can label it as "thinking" and gently return our attention to our breath.
