A walk that involves some rail travel is always a bonus for me. Today I walk from Woodlesford Lock on the outskirts of Leeds all the way to Leeds city centre. Here in the lower Aire valley river, canal and railway run side by side. I walk into the city alongside the Aire and Calder Navigation Canal and River Aire. I return to my start by train on the Leeds to Sheffield line. The walk goes from rural to urban with industrial and post industrial landscapes in between. Along the way I talk about motorways, service stations, water taxis, footbridges, trams and find myself following my ancestors migration route into Leeds.
