What is Dark-DNA? In this episode, we’ll discuss the phenomenon dubbed “Dark-DNA,” which describes segments of the genome that appear to be missing. Are they actually missing, or could they be hiding the key to evolutionary change?

A puzzle posed by segments of  ‘dark matter’ in genomes — long, twisting strands of DNA with no obvious functions — has baffled scientists for more than a decade. This seemingly “missing” or “hidden” aspect of DNA has been dubbed “Dark-DNA.” We still don't know why it exists, but just like dark matter has greatly influenced the universe’s structure and growth, this so-called dark DNA could change the way we think about evolution.
