Butcher & Farmer in BernardsvilleSTYLEPart market, part whole-animal butcher shop and part eatery, Bernardsville’s Butcher & Farmer is a casual, community-centric spot where you can grab a bite to eat for lunch and go home with everything you need to make dinner.

THE SCOOP Open since March, Butcher & Farmer is focused on feeding its community clean, flavorful foods—plus providing patrons with knowledge about what they’re eating and trust in its quality. On the butchering side, the spot breaks down whole animals into fresh cuts, house-made sausages, bone broths, burgers and more, served both in the eatery and to take home.

THE MENU The dine-in menu is small, with a few handhelds, an herb-marinated chicken salad and specials, all made from scratch daily. The signature offering (for good reason!) is the Butcher’s Burger: two flavorful, 6-ounce, organic, grass-fed beef patties, smashed, seared and served with onion, lettuce, tomato and house sauce on a brioche bun. Definitely add cheese and a side of fries. Specials on the day of my visit included a fantastic lentil soup. On Saturdays, rotisserie chicken is also on offer.

PRO TIP Bring shopping bags to fill with meats, Italian dry goods, soups, prepared foods, fresh bread and pickles.
