In short, trigger warnings are well-meaning efforts to consider the effects of discussing heavy topics. But study after study has shown that trigger warnings have no positive effect on mental health for anyone, let alone people experiencing PTSD. Trigger warnings are a direct violation of what psychologists teach us about trauma, harm, and healing. The insights that we can gain from this apply far beyond trigger warnings.
