Introduce Students to Basic Family History and how they are an instrumental part of that history.
This course workshop is designed to introduce the basic fundamentals of Family History, Family Structures, Family Narratives, and Basic Interviewing Skills. Students will interact with their family members as they explore and exchange family stories of life experiences and their triumphs and tragedies.
Students will learn basic family structures based on information researched, and discuss basic family narratives. Students will learn basic interviewing skills and use those skills to interact with family members as they research their family history.
OBJECTIVES: The objective of the Introduction to Basic Family History Workshop is to introduce the student to Family History and 3 of its associated subjects. This particular Workshop does not teach the use of digital research resources such as Ancestor.com Family Search.com.
We teach the use of those resources in our Advanced Family History Workshop. Another objective of this Workshop is to reveal how knowledge of family history directly influences the students’ self-esteem, resilience, and confidence levels. At the conclusion of the Workshop:
Students will be able to discuss the fundamentals and benefits of knowledge of Family History Explain various Family Structures Research and compile a basic Family narrative framework Improve their basic Interviewing Skills by actually conducting interviews
Workshop: This Workshop is designed to teach the importance of Family History. Knowledge of Family History has shown that Students with that knowledge tend to increase a positive sense- of self, confidence, resilience, and self-worth. Students learn the difficulties faced by their family members in life and how those family members overcame those obstacles. That information immediately becomes a teachable moment.
Families are different in structure. Students will learn those Family Structures and how family structure affects our perceptions of family. Students will learn why Family Narratives are important to families and how those Narratives are passed from generation to generation.
Students will learn the basics of interviewing their family members as they research their histories. Requirements to complete the Workshop; Students are required to read several brief booklets with an average read time of 10 minutes each.
Students are required to watch several short videos with an average run time of 10 minutes each, Students are required to have access to a computer or mobile device with a camera to access the internet.
