In 1956 the Santa Fe Opera was founded by John Crosby placing it on the map for classical music aficionados who trek to Santa Fe from around the world each summer to experience professional opera. The Santa Fe Opera is ubiquitous to summer in Santa Fe for the world of opera. Founded by John Crosby, the world-renowned opera in the high mountain desert of the American Southwest, seven miles north of Santa Fe, is home to professional musicians who perform both classic and new opera productions. Crosby, who died in 2002, conducted many operas throughout his career.
