This winter has put quite a bit of strain on wildlife as the snow depths increase they are forcing wildlife to move further down into urban areas causing conflict. Forest grouse largely spend their time in douglas fir stands feeding on conifer needles and buds. Still, outdoor recreation is allowing coyotes to move into an area that is difficult to access due to snowmobiles and groomed trails. Shed hunters are upset that officials have closed the season until May 1st thinking the State is too controlling. I am not sure if they understand that certain counties will face 90% mortality of mule deer fawns. The other question is do they care?
