The revival of bighorn sheep in North America is an impressive accomplishment in conservation. Once absent from every western state, they have now been reintroduced with some populations even surpassing their historic numbers. This success was made possible by the collaborative efforts of hunters, wildlife and land management agencies, conservation groups, indigenous communities, private landowners, and other stakeholders. However, despite these efforts, bighorn sheep continue to inhabit only a fraction of their original range, and their current population is significantly lower than historical estimates on a continental scale.
