Beef cattle farmers across the United States are voicing their frustration over President Trump’s plan to import roughly 660 million pounds of beef from other countries tariff-free for 90 days. The plan is intended to lower the cost of ground beef for consumers while giving American beef cattle producers time to rebuild their herds. As UT Extension livestock economist Dr. Andrew Griffith explains, however, the plan likely won’t accomplish either of those goals.
