Episode 10 continues with special guest Jewell Gardner.Jewell discusses the mental health struggles that she personally faced, and howshe realized the need for self-care in order to continue to effectively supporther son. She then tells Tiffany about the realization that her youngest son wasalso beginning to experience mental health challenges, just as her oldest sonbegan to experience a new challenge of substance use. She details theprogression of her son’s opioid use disorder, the stage of helplessness andvulnerability that she and her son feel as he continues to still struggle, andthe criteria for involuntary commitment (IVC). She concludes with her “WHY” asa parent and clinician, her hopes for her son, and why she feels it’s importantfor her to tell her son’s story from her perspective.
