We are back everyone. We hope you enjoyed the interviews so far on season 2 of the EITF project. This is our final episode for season 2 part 1, and we have a very special guest on the show. We have Guharajan Sivakumar, the founder and CTO of Aprecomm, an exciting start up based out of India, doing incredible work with building intelligence solutions into routers, to make WiFi better! Before we dive deeper into Aprecomm, we will introduce Guhan to you.Guhan started his career as a junior developer at Ecosmos technology Mysore in November of 2002. Beyond that though, he talks about how he joined Mysore university in order to learn about drivers and driver code, but since it was such a new topic at the time, he had to hit the books. Eventually, what he learned was knowledge that he could share with his professor from the university. Guhan joined Altosys software technologies in 2003 as the team lead for real time embedded solutions.Guhan says in his interview, that he has always been passionate about Knowledge transfer, and so while he pursued his career in the corporate world, he was always looking for small challenges to solve on his own. To this end, he started a company, that sold science kits to kids in school, so they could learn the subject in a demonstrative way, rather than in a theoretical manner. An amazing and creative idea, which helped a lot of kids learn the subject in an easy way.Guhan eventually joined Atheros (now Qualcomm) as the lead engineer working on the earliest versions of Wi-Fi technology, before he founded Aprecomm.We noticed in Guhans interview, that throughout his career, he has always been curious, to look beyond his everyday job, and experiment with new ideas. He talks about some of the ideas he has had, and still has! Excellent ones! Hi everyone, this is episode 5 on season 2 of the EITF project, and for this episode, we have a very interesting guest. Charu and I talk to Gracey Wilson from Microsoft in this episode. Why Gracey? Well, I was in the audience, when Gracey gave a speech at the women in tech conference at Boston, and it got me thinking. She had some very interesting things to say. But before we get into that, Charu and I will now introduce her.

Gracey started her career, in a very unconventional way. She started a company right off the bat, called Critter sitters, a pet sitting company which showed increasing revenue with 30 consecutive months! What a fun way to start a career!

Gracey says in the interview that the next phase of her career, which included a lot of internships in companies like GE, Pinch, women without borders, and eventually Microsoft were very interesting and promises that internships teach you a lot about an eventual full time career. She is a big advocate of internships.

She is now a full time software engineer at Microsoft.

One of the common trends in her career journey is that she is always looking to solve the issues that she sees around her, whether or not the issue falls within her field of study. It’s an admirable trait that she has been able to take her ventures towards this end, to great heights. Speaking of ventures, Gracey coins the term “entrepreneurship can begin at home” in her interview, and a testament to that is the early in career group that she helped create in Microsoft. Having been one of the employees who started out her career in Microsoft during the pandemic, she found a way to help individuals connect, get to know each other, and create group events for them as well.

The early in career group was recognized and funded by Microsoft for the great initiative that it was. At EITF, we were lucky to talk to the group last year. You will notice in Gracey's EITF interview, that a lot of her answers encourage our audience to take initiative without having the fear of the environment that they are in. In todays world where every employee is trying to do their best to stay on top of their game given the economic condition, this can help set you apart.

Hi everyone, we are back with episode 4 of the EITF project, and this is an exciting one. For this episode, Karthik, Charu and I spoke to Katrien Pagnaer.

Katrien started her career at Microsoft. She started out as an opportunity manager, working closely with customers in Belgium and Luxembourg. She spent 5 years at Microsoft, holding multiple roles, her latest one being an Enterprise account executive for higher education.

She believes in teaching and giving back, with what she has learnt, and is also on the board of advisors for the Auckland ICT graduate school.

After Microsoft, she started her career at AWS, and has held multiple roles so far. She started out as a National sales manager for New Zealand, before transitioning to a role as Senior sales manager for mid enterprise in Australia and is currently the head of enterprise Greenfield based out of Amsterdam.

All right everyone, notice anything here? Katrien has traveled the world in the pursuit of building a multi dimensional career. In her interview with us, we talk about this - Katrien says that most of us think of Geography restrictions before picking out a role, but by simply removing that restriction from her mind, she found a way to travel the world, experience different cultures, all the while working on the latest technology.

When we spoke about the pandemic and how it changed the way we worked, Katrien inspired the 3 of us by talking about the boundaries that the pandemic has helped remove, rather than talking about the restrictions that it set.

We noticed that She has a very different approach to her work - she builds her job round the way she wants to live her life. We all know how difficult it is to do this, but the balance and the way that she prioritizes her day and her annual year, is very impressive and helps her achieve this.

Hello hello! We are back with episode 3 of season 2 of the EITF project! We’ve had so many good conversations this season, and this one is definitely at the top of our list!

In this interview, Karthik and I interview Michael Haley.

Mike started out as an electrical engineer, with a lot of experience at companies like scope communications, HP, Agilent technologies, ZymeQuest, Kross engineering, and Cooper Perkins! Whoa! This is a lot of experience, everyone, spanning over 16 years! You will find in this interview, that over the span of these 16 years, he was presented with challenges that are unheard of, for an electrical engineer.

But here’s the interesting bit, after spending almost 16 years as an electrical engineer, Mike took up a role as the director of engineering for a medical device company, Velico Medical. He says in his interview that this job was most challenging, because not only was the medical field completely new to him, this was also a management role, which comes with its own challenges.

Mike eventually joined octoscope as a principal design engineer. Mike and I have worked together for about 7 years now. Mike works on embedded software for one of our most popular wifi partner devices. I can say with a hand on my heart that, having worked in the QA department at octoscope, it is extremely hard to find problems with Mike’s code.

Mike talks about this in his interview - although he has faced many technical challenges, his approach to solving a problem has always been the same - find out what’s needed, and if there is no information, prototype something to get the conversation started. He also says that a lot of work decisions relating to advancing in your career, are personal to each individual. He doesn’t fail to give his point of view though, and it’s very unique.

Mike's answers are worth thinking about, and when you do, you will understand the genius behind the answers. A lot to learn, and a lot of simple ways to solve huge problems. An interview that will make you think twice, everyone! Enjoy and as usual, leave us your comments!

We are back again with episode 2 on season 2 of the EITF project!

In this episode, we interview Anne Coulombe. Anne is a very unique addition to EITF.

I met Anne, when I went to the Women In Tech conference in Boston, in 2022. Anne was the keynote speaker, and her speech had us all, transfixed.

Once her speech was over, I had to meet her. She had had limited time to talk at the conference, and I felt like she had a lot more to say about the tech industry, and what better place to do that, than EITF?

Anne has had a long career in the tech industry, so her answers to our questions on the EITF project are drawn from a lot of experience.

Karthik and I will now introduce her career to you.

Anne started out in the tech industry with a job as a Program Manager at Microsoft for e mail gateways and APIs. This was back in 1994!

Anne worked alongside Bill Gates, on a major project - A project commonly known as "email" today.

Since then, she launched herself into the world of tech leadership, and has held numerous leadership positions.

Soon after her tenure at Microsoft, she founded SciPlan systems, a company targetted towards driving new tech products to worldwide markets.

In 2006, she was an SIP Evangelist for Global video and collaboration at Avaya for 5 years. She then worked for Intralinks as the director of the Information security programs and ISO for EMEA & APAC.

In 2020, was the head of data protection and cybersecutiy at MassMutual.

She is currently the Principal security and privacy advisor to CISO's, CIO's and DPOs at Amazon Web services.

We think we see a trend - Anne has been at the forefront of creating the technology that we all have today!

Another important thing to notice about her career journey is that Anne has always found a way to work on technology that are way beyond our times.

She finds projects that are up and coming not just within her company, but within the tech world.

Lets talk about the interview now.

In today's world where the hastag "layoffs" is trending, this interview is a refreshing one.

What struck a chord with us is that, this interview shows a lot of positivity. For a lot of us who are watching the news via Linkedin, it may not look great, but Anne says that it is the exact opposite.

She asks our audience to equip ourselves with skills that technology needs today, rather than skills that a specific role requires. She speaks passionately about cybersecurity and data protection, which are undoubtedly excellent skills to have in todays world.

we initially felt like the the industry is closing in around us by reducing the number of roles available, but after this interview, Karthik and I feel like there are a lot of positions available, if we just look in the right place.

Hi everyone, season 2 of the EITF project is here! We are starting off this season with a bang! Our first guest is KVS Manian. He may be a familiar name to a lot of you so he needs no introduction, but I’ll introduce him anyway.

Where do we start? KVS Manian started out with a bachelors degree in engineering. He then got a post graduate degree in financial management, before embarking on an illustrious 30 plus years in the financial services industry in India. He has a wide variety of experience in investment, corporate, consumer and wholesale banking financial and management accounting, operations and control. He is currently the whole time director and member of the management council at Kotak Mahindra Bank.

He has worked at Kotak Mahindra Bank for nearly 28 years now, and has been part of building the company from ground up, to the institution that it is today. Manian has made dramatic shifts in the positions that he took up within his organization, always making the new role his own, and rising to the top.

All right, let’s talk about his interview. Manian is a very engaging speaker, and we cover a lot of topics. We talk about business building, we talk about people and organization management, psychological safety, and a lot more.

You will find that his answers are well thought through. It is very interesting that he has spent around 28 years in an organization, donning different roles, is an expert in his field, but is still learning everyday. He says in his interview, that although he has worn a management hat for many departments, he is still not the resident expert in all fields. He learns from his peers everyday. A lot of us who are from tech, end up having a similar education background.

But one thing that we also have in common, is the fear of an uncertain industry. We address this topic as well, and we think Manian has some amazing insights on how we can overcome this fear. Enjoy the interview everyone! This was amazing and massive for us!

For this final episode, we interview Venkatraman Acharya. For the EITF interview, he talks about how to face new challenges, how and when to go in search of them, and how to build a career. He also talks about the 3 revolutions in the career space - industrial, informational and social in reference to how it affected the great resignation.

The most important thing he says, is to feel excited about your job and what you are working on. Acharya has been a manager for the better part of his career, so his advice to managers out there is invaluable. We had a lot of fun with this one. Guys, we’ve listened to some very interesting people so far. This next interview is with Vinita Viswanarayan, the branding director from AstraZeneca. Before she gives her thoughts on a specific subject, she answers the question from a “why” perspective. Why do we need background information? Why do we need feedback? Why ask the question? Hello hello! We are back with episode 6 for the EITF project. We’ve been loving the interaction that we are having with our audience! Speaking of interactions and forming connections, for this next interview, we reached out to Sreeja Nair, the director of product management at Qualcomm.

Sreeja loved the idea of the EITF project because she has always believed in encouraging those who come after her in her field of work. She talks about how important it is to have a mentor, someone who can guide and recognize your potential. For the EITF project, Sreeja reveals the secrets of co-opetition, and on the role it plays in aiding a successful career. She also talks about the distinction between a job and a career, and how one can grow in each. She empathizes on the importance of forming connections with the professional community outside of work and maintaining those connections. We could relate to a lot of her answers and we learnt a lot from her. We also felt very encouraged to pursue greater heights in our careers, after our conversation with Sreeja. It’s interesting that Leigh made a change in his field of work right out of education. He talks about this transition and his first interview. When a lot of us make career transitions and apply for roles outside of our fields, we ask ourselves, “why would they hire me?” Leigh took it one step further and asked the person who interviewed him. The answer is surprising and very intelligible. He also talks about what it means to strive to be on top of your game at any job that you are in. He is certainly the most knowledgeable person we know, and his answers to our questions are very interesting. They make you think outside the box when you introspect on your career. He talks about what it takes for an employee to contribute to a team, and what it takes for an organization to help their employees see and contribute to their vision. Episode 2 features Todd McNeal, the Co founder of Reflect, a no code test automation tool for web applications.

This interview with Todd is very unique. Todd answers our questions with a lot of empathy for the audience that the questions cater to. For example, when we asked questions that were meant to help managers, Todd put himself in the shoes of the employee that reports to the manager, which brought a surprisingly new perspective for the answer to our questions. He doesn’t hesitate to critique his own methods in the past, as he learnt and grew from his experiences and his outlook was refreshing.
