In this episode, I sit down with former FBI Special Agent and Baptist pastor Eric Robinson for a conversation about faith, law enforcement, criminal investigations, and the difficult realities hidden beneath everyday society. After beginning his career in ministry, Eric entered the FBI and served for 24 years, investigating drug cartels, gangs, public corruption, organized crime, crimes against children, financial crimes, counterterrorism, and human intelligence. He also spent 15 years as a SWAT operator and approximately a decade as a tactical and firearms instructor.

Mr. Robinson explains how the emotional burden of pastoral ministry contributed to years of debilitating headaches—and why transitioning into the FBI surprisingly gave him healthier professional boundaries. I ask him about ministry burnout, the pressure pastors experience to appear perfect, the importance of having a trustworthy community, and whether witnessing violence, exploitation, and human suffering challenged or strengthened his Christian faith. We also discuss how his work broadened his understanding of grace, accountability, and the complicated circumstances that can lead people into gangs, drug trafficking, prostitution, and other criminal environments.

Our conversation moves into some of the darkest cases Mr. Robinson encountered, including drug-cartel investigations, gang violence, crimes against children, and the commercial sexual exploitation of teenage girls. Rather than reducing victims or offenders to simple labels, we examine the childhood trauma, abuse, poverty, manipulation, desperation, and lack of responsible adults that often exist behind these situations. I also share my experiences working with organizations that support women escaping sexual exploitation and emphasize the importance of prevention, mentorship, mental-health resources, faith-based outreach, and survivor-informed care.

We close by discussing Mr. Robinson’s forthcoming book, his unusual journey from “preacher to breacher,” and the remarkable people and cases he encountered throughout his FBI career. Most importantly, we address how listeners can maintain hope without becoming overwhelmed by every tragedy in the world. We may not be able to solve every global crisis alone, but we can protect our families, support credible organizations, serve our communities, and steadily expand our sphere of positive influence.
