In Genesis Chapters 4 through 7, the first murder occurs when Cain, son of Adam and Eve, kills his brother Abel out of jealousy. God then decides to destroy humanity due to their wickedness, but chooses the righteous Noah to build an ark and save his family and a selection of animals from the coming flood. The flood lasts forty days and forty nights, after which Noah and the animals leave the ark.
