Genesis 12-15 tells the story of God's call to Abram (later renamed Abraham) to leave his home and journey to a new land. God promises to make Abraham the father of a great nation and to bless those who bless him and curse those who curse him. Abraham obeys and travels to the land of Canaan with his wife Sarai (later renamed Sarah), his nephew Lot, and his possessions. Along the way, they stop in Egypt for a time due to a famine, and Abraham fears for his life and tells the Egyptians that Sarah is his sister. As a result, Pharaoh takes Sarah into his household, but God intervenes and returns her to Abraham. The journey continues and they reach the land of Canaan. God renews his promise to Abraham and confirms the land will be given to his descendants.
