Today, I'm sharing a little of my personal journey and giving you some biblical principles to guide you towards a life of true health and freedom from failed diets. I share my challenges with weight loss, full of setbacks and obstacles, and how I overcame them by committing to being someone who was healthy and doing the things a healthy person does as a lifestyle.

We're also chatting about the power of thoughts and beliefs and how they can shape and influence our actions. I encourage you to take a good hard look at what you believe about weight loss and body image in order to make real, long-term progress.

To make changes from the inside out, I provide practical steps, including self-awareness, shifting towards a more positive and empowering mindset, and focusing on changing beliefs rather than just actions.

đź’– Journal Prompts: đź’–

1) What are you thinking about? What thoughts do you have regarding dieting and weight loss? "As a man/or woman thinks, so is he"

  • “I can’t lose weight”
  • “I can’t stick to a diet”
  • “Dieting is too hard”
  • “If this diet doesn’t work in X amount of time, I quit.”

Let’s dig deeper. What thoughts do you have about yourself?

  • “I’m such a failure”
  • “I never follow through”
  • “I have no willpower”
  • “I have to lose weight to be valued, seen, sexy, successful, etc.”

When you’ve dieted in the past, what motivated you to start?

  • Being fed up with yourself
  • Tired of being overweight
  • Wanting to like what you see in the mirror (this needs to start NOW, at your current size)
  • Being more active
  • Wearing the clothes in your closet

What if you found new motivation and had different thoughts? (Not just surface-level stuff)

  • Wanting to honor your body as a temple
  • Instead of thinking “I can’t have that, I’m on a diet,” start thinking “I can have what I want because everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial.”
  • Stop looking at weight loss as an end goal. It’s only a by-product of making healthy lifestyle changes and forming new neural pathways.
  • Getting healthy doesn’t just mean losing weight.
  • It’s about identity shifts. Go from “I can’t eat that” to “I don’t eat that.”

2) Beliefs / Agreements

  • What you think about forms your belief system
  • What do you believe about yourself?
  • What agreements have you made about health and dieting?
  • Agreements are powerful- it’s a contract essentially. A binding agreement is just that…binding.
  • Agreements are formed when you have a thought or someone has spoken something over you and you believe it. (power of words)
  • Agreeing with it gives it power over you because your actions will follow suit
  • EX: “Why do I always do this?”
  • Stop and ask, “What agreements have I made in this area”
  • Identify them
  • “I always, I never” statements
  • Those broken record type thoughts

3) Action: how you can start to take the right actions today to start becoming someone who isn’t just dieting anymore, but someone who just makes healthy choices?
