Bonus Episode

Why do stories about heroes resonate so deeply with us? Why do we cheer for the one who sacrifices himself to save others?

This week I'm sharing my recent sermon from Shepherd's Rock Bible Church on Titus 3:3–6. We begin with an unexpected illustration from Spider-Man 2, but quickly discover that every heroic story ultimately points beyond itself to the greatest rescue in history.

The gospel tells us something surprising: we are not merely victims waiting to be rescued—we are rebels in need of a Savior. Yet according to His mercy, God did what we never could. He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but because of His grace through Jesus Christ.

In this sermon, we'll explore:

• Why humanity is fascinated by heroes
• What Titus 3 teaches about our true condition
• Why salvation is entirely by God's mercy
• How every rescue story ultimately points to Christ
• The assurance believers have because salvation rests on His work, not ours
