We need to understand our identity in Christ so we can walk in this same kind of humility. Humility is a one-way ticket to the blessings of God!

WOULD THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU DESCRIBE YOU AS HUMBLE?

We all want to be significant in our world. People who know their identity have nothing to prove! The quickest path to exaltation and significance is through humility to God.

1 Peter 5:6 NLT So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.

Humility does not make much of ourselves but allows God to exalt us in His timing!

King Xerxes killed the Queen for her refusal to appear before him. Now, the King was searching for his next bride, who would be Queen.

Esther 2:15-18 NLT [15] Esther was the daughter of Abihail, who was Mordecai's uncle. (Mordecai had adopted his younger cousin Esther.) When it was Esther's turn to go to the king, she accepted the advice of Hegai, the eunuch in charge of the harem. She asked for nothing except what he suggested, and she was admired by everyone who saw her. [16] Esther was taken to King Xerxes at the royal palace in early winter of the seventh year of his reign. [17] And the king loved Esther more than any of the other young women. He was so delighted with her that he set the royal crown on her head and declared her queen instead of Vashti. [18] To celebrate the occasion, he gave a great banquet in Esther's honor for all his nobles and officials, declaring a public holiday for the provinces and giving generous gifts to everyone.

Esther, a Jew, spent a year of her life being prepared for the opportunity to appear in front of the King. Many other women took the opportunity to adorn themselves with many jewels and things to inflate themselves before the King.

Esther, on the other hand, chose a route of humility, asking for nothing additional outside of the basics. This greatly pleased the King, and he quickly made Esther the new Queen.

The principle in this first section of Esther’s story shows us that Esther walked in humility and wisdom before the Lord. As she walked into a significant opportunity, the Lord’s hand guided her with favor and elevation.

When our identity is found in the security of our relationship with Jesus, we have nothing to fear and nothing to prove. This is a humble heart that God will exalt!

BE HUMBLE WITH OPPORTUNITY.

How do we apply this in our lives?

James 4:10 NLT Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

The Greek word “humble” can literally be translated as “humble oneself in repentance.” There is nothing more contradictory to humility before God than the lifestyle of a Christian choosing to live in sin.

When we understand our identity in Christ, we know that our life has to change how we live. Humility, in this context, is a call to repentance for those living in sin.

“Is there an area of my life where I am choosing my sin?” God cannot exalt someone who refuses to be humble in the way they live for Him.

Humble yourself before God by repenting from sin that harms your relationship with God!

HUMBLE YOURSELF BEFORE GOD IN REPENTANCE.

Humble yourself by confessing your sin and choosing to repent. Don’t allow pride to blind you any longer. Submit to God and choose to walk in your identity as His child!
