Dr. Toutoule Ntoya shares that your identity is your North Star. It is what guides you, grounds you, and motivates you. How we view ourselves and how we view our abilities can be attributed to how we identify ourselves. Yet, what is a STEM Identity? Listen as Ella Farinas and Dr. Ntoya discuss with ITO Coordinators Christopher Hoang and Scott Moss the concept of an identity and how we can apply it to the STEM field.
Ella Farinas has been in public education for 17 years. She is an instructional coach and STEM Specialist for the Pasadena Unified School District. She has a BA in Child Development and an MA in Education with a specialization in K-8 Science from California State University, Los Angeles. She is a doctoral candidate at Loyola Marymount University's Educational Leadership for Social Justice program. She is passionate about coaching for equity and culturally responsive & sustaining teaching. Her research interests include identity development in education, the role of intersectionality & positionality in educational leaders, particularly for Asian American women, and developing STEM identity in girls and students of color. She loves her family, roller skating, and noodles.
Dr. Toutoule Ntoya is an educator with over 15 years of experience and entrepreneur dedicated to helping students achieve by 1.) working with teachers in professional development and cognitive coaching to implement curricula and 2.) working with students directly using learning and motivational strategies.
