In this episode Paul will talk about dealing with change and how it is an inevitable part of life and requires adjustments. Some of what Paul will discuss includes the following
- examples in Paul's life where he has had significant change in his life and what helped him adjust to the change eg, social support and joining a Men's Group.
- how some changes in life are considered minor where others are more significant and major can bring on symptoms of anxiety, stress, feelings of being overwhelmed, changes in appetitie, depression, irritability, problems sleeping.
Paul will also discuss some useful tips on how to deal with significant changes in life in order to make the transition more smooth and less stressful. This include
1. Changing the way you think about change, eg, cognitive reframing technique.
2. Not getting too comfortable and putting a plan in place for when there is a sudden change eg, creating a budget, making a checklist for upcoming events.
3. Discussing own personal feelings towards change. eg, friends, family, social connections. Talking to a healthcare provider or mental health professional.
4. Keeping changes You Can control to a minimum and not enacting on too many changes at once.
5. Trusting your instincts eg, not being forced into decisions or situations you do not feel comfortable with.
6. Maintaining routines and structures to help cope with symptoms of stress and anxiety, eg, going to bed early and waking up the same time every day. Looking after yourself spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally and financially.
