Knowing all the secrets, Madhurakavi azhwar had his devotion exclusive to Nammazhwar and avoided having even a glimpse of Adhipiran. Penpillai tells another story of same kind where Ramanuja's sishya Vaduganambigal was uninterested about Namperumal's arrival and was more concerned with acharya kainkaryam.
She had given up hope in her loved ones. She had lost her physical and mental strength. Achyuthaa..., Govindaa..., Pundareekaakshaa.... murmured her lips thinking of Lord Krishna. His names rescued her even before the Lord. Veda paatti's beautiful narration of Draupadi's story makes us wonder. Do we chant Lord Vishnu's names at least during our difficult times? Let's request the Lord to make us mindful to chant his names always. Hari while waking up, Kesava while walking, Govinda while eating, Sri Rama while doing all other tasks and Madhava before sleeping.
We continue our Manasik Yatra of Vrindavana through the tales that happened at Govardhana giri. Together we unravel a new secret of vrindavana in this new episode narrated by Dr. Ojaswita Chaturvedi.
He shook the confidence of Ravana and warned him by showing a brief demonstration of what would happen to Lanka with Ram's arrival. He was aware of Ram's feelings, therefore chose the right words to convey an information precisely without aggravating his anxiety. He gave a light of hope to Rama and Sita. The Mighty Rama bhaktha, Anjaniputra Hanuman did everything perfectly and meticulously from the start till the end of the mission of finding Devi Sita. He did all of Rama's and Sita's kainkaryam in the same manner. That's why he is known as Siriya Thiruvadi.
We continue our Manasik Yatra of Vrindavana with another shining star of Vraja mandala - Govardhana mountain. How did the mountain appear in this holy land? Let's unravel a new secret of Vrindavana in this new episode narrated by Dr. Ojaswita Chaturvedi.
Sri Rama was indifferent towards Kousalya and Kaikeyi, Lakshmana and Gugan, Bharatha and Sugreeva, and monkeys and squirrels. Fort or forest, city or jungle, all were the same to him. He was unruffled in every circumstance. Sriman Narayana took the poorna avatar of a human to teach us how to lead a dharmic human life with essential values and principles. Let's all develop those good virtues and benefit in life.
We continue our yatra through Yamunaji who stands as the testimonial to the various pastimes of krishna at Vrindavana.
Krishna staged a play to grant moksha to one of his ardent devotees of Gokulam. However the situation appeared like the devotee was engaged in a serious play. Penpillai discusses about Dadhipandan's concern for Lord Krishna. She emphasizes that we should not just care about our own well-being, but also about the interest of the Lord to whom we are devoted.
Penpillai laments for not being a credulous devotee of Vaithamaanidhi Perumal. The Supreme God Sriman Narayana is found in 5 states. Para, vyuha, vibhava, antaryami and archa. A strong belief of a devotee makes the Lord to peform miracles. Prahlad's resolute faith compelled the lord to appear from an achetana (the pillar) revealing his antaryami state to the world. While all the other Gods are bound by Lord Vishnu's words, Lord Vishnu is bound by the words of a bhaktha. Hence, he is also called as Sonna Vannam Seidha Perumal (did as told by a devotee).
We continue our yatra to the temples of the prime deities of Vrindavana and unravel the stories behind their appearance.
Despite living in this materialistic and sophisticated world, the stories of disciples from our ithihasas and Puranas never cease to amaze us. Penpillai comes with yet another story of a woman's acharya bhakti. Sabari, a disciple of Matanga muni, awaited the arrival of Rama, solely for the sake of the word foretold by her Guru. She gave motherly care to Rama who was completely shattered after the separation of Sita and the death of Jatayu, exemplifying patience, perseverance and devotion towards her Guru.
Hanuman came across one Rama bhakta amidst the cruel demons in the country of Srilanka. Among the group of flatterers in the royal court, He noticed one person who spoke the truth. It was Vibheeshana, the brother of the demon king Ravana. Throughout his life, Vibheeshana walked on the road of dharma, which eventually led him to the place of Lord Rama. Following the path of dharma is never easy. Let's listen to Veda Paati the challenges that Vibheeshana faced while he intended to set things right.
Bhagavatam is the foremost scriptures when it comes to Krishna Leela. In Bhagavatam it is described that the gopis have predominantly sung 5 songs or geetas for their dear lord Krishna. These are Venu Geeta, pranaya Geeta, Gopi Geeta, yugala Geeta and bhramara Geeta. Let us look at where these songs have been based in current vrindavana!
According to Sri Vaishnava Sampradaya, whoever serves Thaayar, becomes favorite to Perumal. Penpillai is guilty of not winning the blessings of Vaithamaanidhi Perumal by performing any kainkaryam to Kumudavalli Thaayar like Jatayu's kainkaryam towards Devi Sita.
Jatayu, the King of Vultures, was unperturbed about the consequences when he fought with Ravana. He rather considered Rama Sita kainkaryam to be important over all his other duties. He put his life at stake, in the attempt to rescue Sita piratti. Even when lying stabbed to death, Jatayu continued the kainkaryam till his last breath.
We enter the last and the best of the forests - Vrindavana. How and why Vrindavana was
chosen as the abode of the Yadavas? Krishna’s amazing adventure land has many tales to
tell..
Why Rama considered Gugan as his brother and also as a friend? What was so special about him? Generally, Rama's Prabhaavam is highly celebrated on his meeting with Gugan. However, our Penpillai highlights the glory of revered Gugan for our benefit. We all know Gugan helped Rama in crossing the river Ganges. Was it the only reason for Gugan's role to be popularly underlined in Ramayana? Pen Pillai constantly connotes in each story, that there's much more to know from each devotee. Let's dive into the story of a dutiful and devoted Gugan who got an opportunity to help Rama Bhagavan) and also Bharatha (Bhaagavata).
Bharathan - the brother known for bhagavath paarathanthriam. He was firm and contented in doing simply what Rama desires and orders. Bharath considered himself as a body and Rama as his soul. Is it possible for the body to exist without the soul? But that was the command of Rama. Bharath promptly proposed an idea that alleviated his agony of seperation. He patiently waited in Nandigram. Even during the times of hardship, bagavath kainkaryam should be kept as our top priority just as Bharath did.
Once when Krishna and his friends were talking about Ramayana, Krishna remarked that he's sri Rama himself. Radha and other gopis refused to believe him and put him through a test. Know this and many more pastimes that took place in" Kamyavan ".
Lakshmana - the brother known for his bhagavath Eshathvam. He set an example of how a devotee should be ready and ever willing to serve the lord.Like how a crawling baby follows the mother around the house , Lakshmana wanted to follow Rama everywhere.Let's know from Veda paati , how Adisesha seized the opportunity of doing Kainkaryam to Sriman Narayana , when he was born as Lakshmana.
In this episode we explore the past times of Balarama through the forests of Taalavan and Bhadravan.
One of the five lessons that Andal has taught us is to offer flowers to Lord vishnu. We have also heard about the life of many Azhwars and Aacharyas who have pleased the god by their pushpa kainkaryam. Here's a garland maker's story from Penpillai's archive. As we heard in the virtuous Vidhura's story, Lord Vishnu has met many of his devotees throughout his avatar leelas. Yet again in Krishna avataram, he goes to the place of a humble and courteous garland maker and receives the offering of garland from him. How fortunate was the garland maker, to be chosen by the supreme Lord?
As Krishna and Balarama walked down the streets of magnificent Mathura, astonished were the people at the sight of those boys with godly figure. Trivakra makes Krishna happy by offering the finest of what she had and unexpectedly gets a gift from him. Penpillai, through this story hints us about the favourites of Lord Krishna and inspires us to delight the lord at our home.

The story of Gajendran is a testimonial that devotion towards the Lord will continue no matter how many births we take.
Whose devotion impressed Srinivasa perumal the most? The King's or the potter's? Both had their own way of expressing their love for him. Both are dear to him. Meanwhile, the Lord wanted to convey a message to the King. He staged a play to make the King meet the potter. Let's find out how both of them became more closer to the lord after this event.
Genuine interest is the key to ultimate happiness.
What was Sumathi interested in?
During drought, Sumathi and her husband moved from Kongu desam to Srirangam. She was intrigued after observing Swami Ramanujar in Srirangam teaching people from all walks of life. Before leaving Srirangam, She visited him and obtained the preachings and also got his padukas as a remembrance. Later in life, she had a good fortune to receive Ramanujar and his disciples at her home. Since then, she has been known as Kongil Piratti.
There are 12 forests in Vrajabhoomi. In this episode, let's explore three forests where many of Bala Krishna's past times took place - Bhandiravan, Mahavan & Madhuvan.
Smt. Ojaswita Chaturvedi brings us the secrets of Vrindavana in this audio story series in English.
Penpillai speaks about a raja guru to a sampradaya guru.
Trikaala gyaani Vashishtar was aware of the forthcoming events in the life of Sri Rama. Though Sage Vasishta and Sage Vishwamitra were not always in good terms, Sage Vasishta never had a second thought in insisting King Dasaratha to send Rama along with Vishwamitra. He acted in good conscience and guided both Dasaratha and Rama in the right path.
Unconditional love - Is this possible for any human except for Sri rama and krishna? Our friend Penpillai knows about a person. Thiruppanazhwar was not allowed to enter the temple premises due to the caste system prevalent in those times. Despite not having seen the Lord, he continued to show his love by singing perumal's kalyana gunas. One day, the Lord decided to show his beautiful divine form to Thiruppanazhwar.
Gajendra daasar was called as Thirukkachi nambigal. He was well known for his aalavattam kainkaryam (fanning service) and pushpa kainkaryam to kanchi perumal. His modesty and steadfast devotion made Dheva perumal and Perundevi thaayar to choose him as their messenger to convey great messages to their devotees. He thus received a rare boon of conversing with perumal and thaayar.
We have heard and learnt many of Krishna's Bala Leela.. But how much do we know about the land of Vrindavana? The holy land of Vrajabhoomi carries testament to the miracles and leelas of Krishna.

Tondaradipodi Azhwar born in Thirumadankudi , demonstrated bhakthi, dedication and vairagyam towards perumal. He offered the service of making garlands with utmost devotion. His tale proves that god himself would liberate us from worldly pleasures if the bhakthi is genuine , even if the bhagavatha trails away from the path for a brief period of time.
Ratnakaran who transformed into Valmiki Maharishi, wrote Aadi kavyam Ramayanam .The first ones to propagate Ramayanam were Kusha and Lava ,the sons of Rama. They both presented Ramayanam in Sri Rama sabha mesmerizing one and all present there.
The meeting of Mudhal Azhwargal is a significant part of Sri Vaishnava History. A delightful tale on how satsangam brings Perumal's grace upon us. When one seeks the company of good, the Supreme good is bound to join and bless.

Known as Kuru Muni, Sage Agasthya is small in figure and huge in his glory. Sage Agasthya's story, selfless services rendered by him, his prowess and his role in Ramayana astounds the Pen Pillai that she yearns to serve the Lord like Agasthya.
Aval poriyai eendheno Kuchelarai pole - Kuchelopakhyanam by Pen Pillai - the tale of friendship, gratitude, bhakti and Krishna love.
Anuyathirai seitheno Anilanganai pole - Here is an account of little Squirrel of their experience in serving Rama and the Vanara Sena during Sethu Bandhanam
The very blessed Yashoda ma enjoyed raising the Lord and raising Him through His mischievous childhood. Did I get any such blissful opportunity?, laments Pen Pillai.
Aazhimarai endreno Vasudevarai Pole Out of ignorance and overcome by fatherly affection, Vasudevar wanted to protect baby Narayana who had just taken birth and beseeched him to hide his conch and chakra. Did i protect the Lord like Vasudeva?, ponders little girl of Thirukolur.
Deivathai petreno Devakiyai pole
Did I give birth to the Lord like Devakai? Was I as blessed as Devaki and Vasudeva.
Madhurakavi Azhwar affirms that he knows no God other than Nammazhwar ("dhEvu maRRu aRiyEn"). He is renouncing the things of this world, rejecting the other world and even the Lord himself. The philosophy of following one's acharya as everything is demonstrated from Madhurakavi Azhwar's Acharya bhakti.
Pen Pillai wonders - "Did I demonstrate Acharya bhakti like Madhurakavi Azhwar?"
“aham vedmi mahAtmAnam rAmam satya parAkramam
vasishTopi mahAtejA ye cheme tapasistithA:”
Mahatma like Vasista and me know Sri Rama's true identity, one who's valor can defeat the rakshasas and guard us.
Did I know the Lord like Vishvamitra?
Am I capable of understanding and learn the avatara secret of the Lord like Mandodhari? - asks Pen Pillai.
How did Mandodhari learn that Sri Rama was the Almighty Narayana?
How noble is the virtue of displaying empathy towards those in grief? Did I offer comfort and console anyone like Trijata offered for Sita Devi? - ponders the little girl from Thirukolur.
Kabandha's helped Rama by giving him a break through in his search of Sita.. Did I offer any help to a Bhagavan or Bhagavatha? laments Pen Pillai.
Time and again, our elders have said that Rama's truth and Krishna's falsehood have been protecting us so what does Pen Pillai imply through this story? Let us analyze with Veda Paati.
“My child, are you going to tell us the story of yet another Azhwar? Please do go on!”, questioned Illayazwhar Ramanuja with eagerness. “Yes, Swami. I can neither be like Thirumazhisai azhwar who researched and understood the Supreme, nor like Nammazhwar who was filled with humility! But how about Kulasekar Azhwar?”, and then she went on to narrate the story of the next Azhwar, taking us all to the state of Kerala.
Emperumanaar Ramanuja’s joy knew no bounds when he heard stories of Azhwars! Was she going to tell the story of yet another Azhwar, he wondered to himself? Just as these thoughts were running through his mind, the little child of Thirukolur said, “Swami, am I like Nammazhwar who praised the Lord saying that He is small?”. Who is Nammazhwar and why did He praise the Lord so?
Pen Pillai shares - "Did I research and explore other religions and give them up as false like Thirumazhisai Azhwar?"
“Swami, why do I deserve to remain in this Divya Desam? I do not possess the faith of Akroora, innocence of Vidhura, the love of Rishi’s wife, determination of Sita Piratti, the divine friendship of King Thondaiman, simple devotion of Ghantakarna, motherly love of Anusuyai, steadfastness of Dhruva, ability to change like Kshatrabandu, patience of Ahalya, nor do I have the maturity of Andal! Also, did I call the Lord my own like Pattarbhiran?”, lamented the sweet child of Thirukolur. “Dear child, tell me about Bhattarpiran”, coaxed Ramanuja.
Did I gain spiritual wisdom in childhood like Andal? - Asks our little girl of Thirukolur.
Undoubtedly, in her list of 81 devotees, Andal would rank the highest. Yet, after Akroora's faith, Vidhura's purity, Rishi Pathni's detachment, Sita Piraati's chaste devotion, Thondaimaan's KArpanyam, GhantAkarnan's offering, Anasooya's modesty, Dhruva's steadfastness, Kshtrabandhu's change of heart and Agalya's surrender; Pen Pillai patiently introduces Andal only in the 11th verse. Is she maturing her audience to evolve enough to understand Andal?
Kodhai who is the embodiment of compassion shows us how to do Bhakti, not just at an individual level, but communally with all beings. Her Bhakti marga is simple - reign in His heart with aligned thoughts, words and deeds, focussed only on Him, ask only for Him. Should you deter, ask him to remind you and put you back on track. Andal's path is that simple.
Let Andal manifest in you again through Veda Paati's soulful narration.
Andal Thiruvadigale Charanam!
“Swami, was I blessed by the Lord’s feet like Ahalya?”, continued Thirukolur Pen Pillai as Swami Ramanuja gently coaxed her to go on. Who is Ahalya and why was she blessed by the feet of the Lord?
Ahalya was the beautiful creation of Lord Brahma. Her stunning form attracted both Indra and Gauttama Muni who both wanted her hand in marriage. There was a competition held between the two suitors to select the best match for Ahalya. The rule of this competition was that, the one who could traverse around the world and get back first would be the one to marry Ahalya. The ever fervent Indra immediately set off to make a trip around the world. Poor Gauttama felt disappointed as he was not equipped to achieve this task.
Ill - mannered and cruel prince Kshatrabandhu is chased into the forest by the entire kingdom. In the forest, he meets a rishi who teaches him a 3 letter word that he could chant whenever he wants. How did Kshatrabandhu's life transform?
“I seek your blessings Swami, and am grateful to you for patiently listening to my heart felt longing! While speaking about all the great devotees of Perumal and the fact that I am not half as qualified as them, how could I miss out the great Dhruva? The 5 year old child who had the knowledge, devotion, resilience that brought him to the greatest heights in life? Did I seek the eternal Father like Dhruva did?”, and so Pen Pillai started relating the story of Dhruva. Who is Dhruva and why did he seek the lap of Perumal?
The forlorn PenPillai of Thirukkolur continues lamenting, considering herself unworthy of remaining in the great divya desam. EmperumanAr RAmAnuja was so captivated by her yearning to be on par with the great devotees of the Lord. He fervently pleaded to PenPillai, “Go on my child, I am eager to hear your stories!” Are we not also just as eager?
“Did I assume the role of a Mother?” asked the little child, with a touch of mystery. With this she brought us to the dense forests of Dandakaranya, that lay between the revered rivers, Narmada and Godavari. This is where Rama, Lakshmana and Sita spent 14 years of their exile from Kosala.
“Swami, do you know that even a spirit is capable of more steadfastness than I? Have you heard of Ghantakarna?”, said the little Pen Pillai of Thirukolur, and thus started her next story.
PINAM EZHUPPI VITTENO THONDAIMAANAI POLE
“Respected Swami, I had told you about Akroora, Vidhura, the Rishi’s wife and Sita PirAtti so far. I neither possess their deep rooted devotion, nor their undeterring faith in the Lord”, mused Thirukolur Pen Pillai. As Swami RAmAnuja eagerly awaited, the little girl deep in thought muttered, “ThondaimAn.. Was I able to bring the dead to life like that great King?” Who was ThondaimAn? How and why did he bring the dead to life?
The little mysterious girl of Thirukolur compared herself thus far to the faithful Akroora, the virtuous Vidhura, and the devoted wife of the Rishi. Who next we might wonder! Well, these were the same thoughts that crossed Swami RAmAnujA’s mind. He looked at her eagerly, awaiting her next story.
The forlorn Pen Pillai continued, “EmperumAnAr, did I ignore Ravana like Sita Piratti?” With this, the little girl takes Swami RAmAnujA and us to the beautiful Ashoka Vanam gardens of the evil demonic King Ravana.
Having heard the story of the pure-hearted devotee, Vidhura of Hastinapur, “Where will I be teleported to this time”, wondered Ethirajar Ramanuja. “Go on, my child. I want to hear more!”, he coaxed the little girl of Thirukolur.
“Oh Swami, did I sacrifice my body like the wives of the sages when Krishna asked for food?” bemoaned Pen Pillai. With this, Ramanuja got transported to the scene of the everyday life of little Krishna and his cowherd friends! Let us travel along with him!
EmperumAnAr RAmAnuja gently coaxed the sweet child, pen pillai to go on!
And she said -
“Swami, have I purified my heart like Vidura?” The purest of devotees whose heart and home the Lord himself had chosen?” laments Thirukolur Pen Pillai ! With this, she started narrating the incident, taking us all back to the days of the Pandavas and Kauravas in Hastinapur!
