The easiest past is the one that gets you back on course — back on your soul’s trajectory — the fastest. There’s no guarantee getting back on track will be easy, but it will be worth it.

I smile whenever I think of the chorus’ explanation on this. You’re driving down the highway. You realize you’ve missed your exit. You think, cool, I’ll jump off at the next off-ramp and turn around. That’s what you think!

More likely, the minute you have the realization that you’re heading in the wrong direction, the universe will jump in and help you course correct immediately. There’s a perfectly good median to your left. Who cares that your car isn’t built for off-roading. You can drive across it.

So off you go. Bumpety, bumpety, bumpety. The path isn’t smooth, but you’re back on track. There was no need to go further out of your way.

Are you in the middle of the median right now? Hold tight. It won’t feel like this forever. Enjoy the E-Ticket Ride (the greatest and most thrilling theme park attractions) because you’re on it whether you like it or not.

As I write this, I keep hearing On The Right Track from Pippin in my head. As the song says, “Cause each step's indispensable, when you're on the right track.” So lest we forget —
