I laughed my way through watching this recording. The other day a client mentioned that when working with me one on one, I’m exactly the same as I am in my videos. It’s true. This is who I am.
But that’s not the point of this story. Or maybe it is?
As I’ve started recording videos again, the grappling with honing this skill anew is back. Having spent years struggling as my brain and mouth didn’t work in sync, I’m pretty pleased to be where I am. That doesn’t mean that I’m not aware of the speed of my speech and how it can get away from me.
I’m especially vigilant about this as so many in the energetic and spiritual spaces use what I’ve deemed hypnospeech, a pacing that lacks breaths entirely. It’s meant to lull you into a place where you blindly accept what they’re saying because your brain doesn’t have time to question. That’s not how I roll.
Our brains need a beat to process. When I do business strategy work with clients, I literally stop and say, “I’m going to pause here for a moment.” That is then followed by asking if anyone has any questions. If you’re speaking to be understood, you need those breaks to enhance comprehension.
But here’s the thing, the ghosts and galactics and energies of the universe sometimes move so quickly that I find myself trying to keep pace. I lose control of the tempo and find myself at a canter instead of a trot. (Don’t mind me as I mix my horse speeds with music metaphors. We all know that I like to blend them.)
And while I don’t want to break into a gallop while speaking, keeping pace with the energy is important. If I slow things down too much, it changes what I’m conveying. That peppy march begins to sound like a funeral dirge.
So what if all of those presentation tools of the trade are great for standing in front of a room full of people but aren’t as important for channeling? Can I pick and choose what I keep and what I disregard?
Yep, I can. You can too.
There’s bound to be an area of your life where you’re self-imposing more restrictions than the energy flow needs. Where is that? What can you toss out the window or, at the very least, set on a high shelf for the moment?
Does that allow you to move more freely? Hope so!
