Welcome back to Make a Difference.

We have all heard the statement about "Don't assume, it will make a" well you know the rest. It really is worth thinking about.

The human brain relies on learned experiences that become patterns of behavior to figure out what to do when it is presented with the same situation in the future. We learn what happened when we did something and if effect the brain assumes it will happen again; and, as a result acts accordingly. Did anybody touch the hot stove?

This can be lifesaving when one encounters Ice on the sidewalk, but it can be a real challenge if you are trying to unlearn a bad habit or pattern of behavior.

Steve Maraboli states in the book Life, the Truth and Being Free that “How would your life be different if…You stopped making negative judgmental assumptions about people you encounter? Let today be the day…You look for the good in everyone you meet and respect their journey.”

The challenge is to consciously pause the learned behavior long enough in some situations where you are able to consider an alternative that may serve you better and take a note to allow reflection is needed.

This takes time and effort but may offer growth when you see the need for change. Take a moment and count to ten the next time you have an impulse and see if you have a better opportunity before you.

That is what I am thinking about today.
