CHAPTER 23 - describes a plot against the life of Paul, how it was laid, discovered, and defeated. The chapter starts with the description of how the council and the high priest, Ananias, treated Paul, trying their best to condemn him because they did not like his teachings. Forty men vow to set an ambush and kill Paul, but Paul's nephew overhears the plot and reports it to the commander. The commander orders a considerable detachment of the Roman forces to get ready to go to Caesarea with all expediency (political advantage) and to bring Paul there to protect him. Paul appears before the Sanhedrin, where he hears their accusations and presents his defense, and the commander realizes there is no charge against Paul that will stick. The chapter ends with Paul being transferred to Caesarea, where he will appear before the governor.
CHAPTER 22 tells the story of Paul's incarceration by the Roman government. Paul gives a defense as to why he traveled with a Gentile from Ephesus, reminding the Jews of his strict education by the Pharisee rabbi Gamaliel and how violently he had, at first, persecuted Christians. He then recounts his conversion, as narrated in Acts 9:1–19. The Jewish mob that had tried to kill Paul earlier listened intently to his whole sermon until he mentioned Gentiles, which caused them to erupt into rage. The Roman tribune realizes neither Paul's speech nor the crowd's renewed anger explain anything, so he falls back on the traditional Roman way to uncover information: beating people until they talk. The soldiers tie Paul up but before the centurion raises the flagellum, Paul points out that, as a Roman citizen, he cannot be flogged until...

CHAPTER 20 describes the final stages of Paul's third missionary journey. He revisits the churches he and Barnabas had planted in central modern-day Turkey, travels to the province of Asia where he establishes a church in Ephesus, and gives a farewell speech to the Ephesian elders. Paul warns them of coming deceptions and reminds them of their responsibilities. He concludes with a tearful goodbye as he tells them to continue spreading the Gospel. After the parting sermon, Paul leaves town to travel a bit more and ends up in Philippi where he celebrates Passover with his traveling companions.

CHAPTER 19 is about Paul's three-year stay in Ephesus during his third missionary journey. He first goes to the synagogue where he expounds on his initial message that Jesus is the Messiah. After a while, many agree with him, but those who don't harass him and his followers so much they leave. Paul then begins to teach in a lecture hall, where he performs many miracles, and many people are converted to Christianity. Some Jewish exorcists try to use Jesus' name to cast out demons, but they are unsuccessful and are themselves attacked by a possessed man. The incident causes many people to fear the Lord and the demonic, and the name of the Lord Jesus is magnified. A riot is raised by Demetrius, a silversmith who makes shrines of the goddess Artemis, because he fears that Paul's preaching will hurt his business. The town clerk manages to calm the mob and end the immediate threat to Paul and the other Christians.

CHAPTER 18continues to recount Paul's second missionary journey. After preaching at Mars Hill, Paul leaves Athens and travels to Corinth (sin city). There he meets Aquila and Priscilla, a Jewish couple who have been kicked out of Rome. Paul stays with them and works as a tentmaker for a week and preaches on the following Sabbath. Silas and Timothy later join Paul in Corinth. Paul testifies to the Jews in Corinth that Jesus is the Christ, but they oppose him - they hold his past against him. In response, Paul declares that he is innocent of the blood of the Jews and turns his attention to the Gentiles. Paul then has a vision telling him to continue boldly speaking the truth in Corinth. As a result, Paul remains in the city for a year and a half, teaching the word of God and establishing the Corinthian church. Paul eventually leaves Corinth with Aquila and Priscilla and sails to Syria.
CHAPTER 17 describes Paul's second missionary journey, where he and Silas travel through Galatia in modern-day Asia Minor, visiting the churches Paul and Barnabas established in their first journey. They found a young man named Timothy and brought him along. The chapter describes Paul preaching in Thessalonica, Berea, and Athens. In Athens, Paul addresses the Areopagus and speaks of the "unknown god" and the resurrection of Christ to the Greeks . He tells them that God is the Creator of all things and that He is not far from any of us. Some people believe, but others do not, and Paul moves on to Corinth.The chapter also mentions that the Jews who were not persuaded, becoming envious, took some of the evil men from the marketplace and set all the city in an uproar in Thessalonica. The charge against Paul was that he was saying there is another king, Jesus, and acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar. This accusation troubled the crowd and the rulers of the city.

CHAPTER 16 is about Paul and Silas embarking on Paul's second missionary journey. Along the way they find Timothy and train him up in the Gospel. Then they receive the “Macedonian Call.” Timothy joins Paul and Silas, and their work continues. Paul actually circumcises Timothy to prevent difficulties in preaching to older Jews as the boy grows into church leadership. The missionaries cast an evil spirit out of a young woman, and as a result, those who had profited monetarily from her fortune-telling accuse Paul and Silas of promoting the worship of an unauthorized deity. The crowd attacks Paul and Silas, the city leaders tear their clothes, law enforcement beats the missionaries, and a jailer chains the two in a prison cell. The example of Paul and Silas shows that Christians should prepare to accept persecution, but it is still proper to insist on our legal rights. When the city leaders ask Paul and Silas to leave quietly, the two refuse. They are Roman citizens, and the city leaders are afraid of the consequences of their mistreatment. The jailer tends to Paul's and Silas's wounds and asks how he can be saved. He and his household believe and are baptized.
CHAPTER 15 describes an important Church council held in Jerusalem around AD 50, just before Paul's second missionary journey. The chapter discusses the issue of whether Gentile converts to Christianity needed to follow Jewish customs, such as circumcision and dietary laws, in order to be saved. The council ultimately decided that Gentiles did not need to follow these customs, but should make concessions to their Jewish brothers and sisters to maintain unity. The chapter also describes the dispute between Paul and Barnabas over whether to bring John Mark on their journey, which resulted in the two going their separate ways.

CHAPTER 14 - records the first missionary journey of Paul and Barnabas to Phrygia and Lycaonia. The chapter, which takes place in approximately 48AD, describes the last half of Paul's first missionary journey, including the healing of a crippled man in Lystra. Paul and Barnabas also encounter opposition and persecution in various cities, but they continue to preach and establish new congregations. The chapter emphasizes God's kindness and power, which is seen in the fruitful crops and rain that He provides. This incredible chapter highlights the challenges and triumphs of early Christian missionaries as they spread the gospel to new regions.
CHAPTER 13 describes the beginning of Paul's first missionary journey. Paul and Barnabas are called to preach the Gospel and travel to Antioch, where Paul preached that Jesus Christ fulfilled God's promises to Israel. They then travel to Cyprus and continue to preach the gospel. In Perga, John Mark leaves the group and returns to Jerusalem. Paul and Barnabas continue to preach in Antioch in Pisidia, where they are met with opposition from the Jews. Paul curses a sorcerer and continues to preach the gospel to the Gentiles.

Acts 12 tells the story of the death of James, son of Zebedee, the imprisonment and miraculous escape of Peter from prison, the death of Herod Agrippa I, and the early ministry of Barnabas and Paul of Tarsus. The chapter begins with the first death of an apostle and ends with the death of a Roman territorial king. Persecution strikes the Church through Herod Agrippa I, grandson of Herod the Great. Peter is miraculously delivered from prison. The death of Herod is a judgment from God.
Acts 11 describes Peter's defence of his visit to Cornelius’s house in Caesarea and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit which took place during their meeting. The chapter also discusses the development of the church in Antioch, which became the epicentre of the Gentile Church, and the spread of the Gospel to the Gentiles. In this chapter we also get a glimpse of what the spiritual gifts of apostleship and prophecy looked like in the early Church.
