For our first true crime episode, Maddie tells Leslie the story of the harrowing crimes of Ray and Faye Copeland, the oldest couple ever sentenced to death in America, and the rumored inspiration behind Ti West's 2022 horror film "X."

The five victims that they were convicted of killing were:

  • Dennis K. Murphy, 27, of Normal, Illinois; born in 1962 and killed October 17, 1986
  • Wayne Warner of Bloomington, Illinois; killed November 19, 1986
  • Jimmy Dale Harvey, 27 of Springfield, Missouri; born in 1961 and killed October 25, 1988
  • John W. Freeman, 27 of Boonville, Indiana; born January 6, 1962 and killed December 8, 1988
  • Paul J. Cowart, 20 of Dardanelle, Arkansas; born September 30, 1968, and killed May 3 or 4, 1989

It's important that we remember them for more than how their lives were ended; namely for their kindness and as more than victims of the Copelands.

M here! Sorry about the mic feedback... I was wearing a heart monitor this episode, and I didn't realize that it kept bumping the mic and causing weird noises. I tried to fix them as best as I could while editing, but it's definitely not perfect. It'll be better next time! Thank you for your patience, xoxo.

In the second installment of our Gabriel review trilogy, we cover the three "Gabriel's Rapture" movies from Passionflix, which includes, but is not limited to: born again virgins, legal scandal, dead mothers reappearing, tents, and an incredibly bad wedding dress. Give us this day our daily raptor...

This week, we explore the insane, cringeworthy, Dante-obsessed hellscape of discount Chuck Bass and Bella Swan, aka parts 1, 2, and 3 of "Gabriel's Inferno." No shrimps were harmed in the making of this episode, but our sanity sure was.

Trigger warning: Paranormal stories (these are genuinely creepy stories. If you get spooked easily, this might not be the episode for you).

Follow along as Maddie tells four of her creepiest paranormal stories (that she swears on the life of Saint Harry Styles really happened, and Mads doesn't lie) and Leslie cries tears of something we can't quite figure out yet. The stories get progressively creepier, going from Maddie's haunted apartment, a 3am mystery during a middle school sleepover, being watched at night, to a faceless creature in a fedora and trench coat that has haunted Maddie for 15 years. Are you brave enough to listen?

We're still alive, we promise! In today's episode, Maddie and Leslie give their Halloween week updates, including Maddie's newly found crippling fear of chainsaws she discovered at a haunted forest (~colorful~ language was involved that night), a Halloween ski lift ride, and boys. Long time no listening, friends! Today's episode, and this should come as no shock to you, is a wild ride of tangents and life rants mixed with a fun conversation about how internet culture, memes, and social media have impacted dating (shoutout to Patrick [fake name obvi] for the memes topic suggestion! We <3 you big time). ALSO, if you want to hear Maddie's linguistics evangelism that she couldn't remember during this episode, check out our bonus episode, "It's Just Semantics, Baby," to hear her give a crash course in semantics and pragmatics and how she thinks it ties into dating.

In today's wild ride of an episode, Maddie recounts the story of her worst date with a dinosaur-obsessed boy who decided he wanted to marry her so that she could carry on his bloodline (that's not a joke), we tell our friend's story of a painfully ignorant date from a dating app, and Leslie talks about her experience of puking on a date with a friend's brother. Yes, these dates were as mortifying as they sound.

TRIGGER WARNING: This episode mentions sexual assault and abuse, although we don't go into too much detail on either (we will talk more about abuse, though), so if these are sensitive topics for you, we suggest listening with a friend, skipping the SA section (7:30-12:09), or skipping the entire episode since it will talk a lot more about abuse if that is too difficult for you. There are other episodes of our podcast that don't contain these subject matters for you to listen to instead if this one is too difficult! Do whatever is best for you and your mental health. On our third and final installment of the wedding series, we talk about the pitfalls of young marriages and divorce, as well as Maddie's own experience of an almost young marriage with an abusive ex, and Leslie's friend's terrible decision-making skills with a convicted felon (yes, you read all of that right). Deep breaths--this episode is a bit of a doozy.

In part 2 of our series on weddings, we deep dive into all things wedding and wedding culture: traditions we like and dislike, elopement vs traditional weddings, and exactly what we'd want for our own weddings. As always, we have strong opinions on what we want and, as a special treat for being such good listeners, you'll get to hear a special rant from Maddie in this episode that's "personal, okay?" Buckle up, grab your popcorn, and get ready--the wedding culture train is now leaving the station.

Today's episode is the first in a series about weddings where you'll get to listen to our rants about proposals, rings, and all the cringy steps in the process. Not only that, but hear what WE want (and don't want) for our own proposals and rings, and what proposals we've even helped with!

In this episode we'll go on a magical, mysterious, and moronic tour of pickup lines using Leslie's dating apps as the main cringeworthy event. We loathe and love them, but more than anything, we are utterly entertained by them. But wait--there's more! Act now, and you'll hear what pickup lines we have used on other people! This offer is only good for a limited time, so you'd better act fast.

Editing Maddie's Note: If you hear any weird audio editing bits, those are places I tried editing out the name of an ex that we decided to change for a second time after the initial recording session. So, if you hear those places, that's what that is. Don't worry, your headphones aren't deceiving you!

Welcome to Dating, Diet Crime, and Diatribes, we are so happy you're here! In this episode you'll get a small taste of who we are, why we started this podcast, what we'll be talking about, and some other small snippets along the way. This episode also explains the general procedural things for the podcast, so here is your launching pad for the future!
