"You have to be careful who you share your dreams with, right? You have to be careful who you open up to and talk about the dreams and the direction that God is leading you to. You can't share your dreams with everyone."

For as long as I can remember, I have been hard on myself for being HUMAN. These feelings have been amplified since becoming a mother. When I feel anger, oftentimes that anger is followed by guilt afterward if I respond in a way that doesn't feel good to me.

From an early age, we are taught and conditioned to believe that there are good emotions and bad emotions. As children, we are often taught to suppress the "bad emotions."
But what happens over time when we feel anger?
What do we do with that emotion?

The truth is that anger is no different from any other emotion. It is an indicator of care and attention. Instead of feeling guilty when you feel angry, when you have a normal human reaction to life, try this six-step process to hold space for and then work through and release the anger.

This six-step process is discussed in detail in this episode:Step 1: Acceptance
Step 2: Name it
Step 3: Give yourself the care and love you need
Step 4: Ask yourself "What is my anger trying to tell me?"
Step 5: Give yourself grace
Step 6: Forgive yourself and begin anew

The text message that inspired this episode recording: "What's happening is that it's putting pressure on everyone to rush through life to achieve a certain something. And piling on so much at one time to get to said "something" faster is overwhelming for people's capacities."

Text conversations with two good girlfriends made me pause and reflect on how overwhelmed most of us are. The constant need to keep up with the Joneses, or these days the Kardashians, has a lot of people in our society overwhelmed and burned out. As millenials, we are not okay.

In this episode, I discuss:

  • MY OPINION (note these are just my thoughts so you can totally disagree) on the impact social media is having on us millenials as a generation and how it has also severely impacted Gen Z
  • How millenials are dealing with a lot more pressure than our parents faced because we are constantly over-inundated and overstimulated with the lives of thousands or millions of other people
  • Why we need to reevaluate our lives and commitments to see where we can simplify and/or release certain responsibilities
  • Why we should all be seeking ways to prioritize soul-care and release including therapy and somatic practices
  • How taking a break/detox from social media can be a really helpful way to heal and release the pressure

About Caroline J. Sumlin**

Caroline J. Sumlin is a writer, speaker, and educator with a passion for helping all people to reclaim their self-worth and their humanity. A former foster child turned adoptee, Caroline brings awareness, healing, and liberation to the topics of toxic white supremacy culture, systemic injustice, mental health, faith reconstruction, and bold, purposeful living to her growing audience. She lives in Manassas Park, Virginia.

Her new book We’ll All Be Free: How a Culture of White Supremacy Devalues Us and How We Can Reclaim Our True Worth is available wherever you get your books!

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Caroline’s evolution and what it has taken for her to unapologetically embrace her authentic self. Spoiler alert, she had to do the work to get to know herself and she shares with us her journey of acceptance and self-love
  • The inspiration behind her book, We’ll All Be Free, and how getting in alignment and not forcing the process allowed her to write her book. We discuss the importance of surrender and following your soul’s authentic blueprint
  • How we can distinguish when we are not in alignment, recognize resistance and pivot when necessary
  • The importance of confronting our pain, shame, trauma and challenges and how we can find freedom when we allow ourselves to heal and process our experiences. AND why we must have compassion and grace with others understanding that we are all on our own healing journeys.
  • How white supremacy culture contributes to our feelings of unworthiness and not feeling good enough and what we can do to begin to heal and unlearn this programming.

The quote I mentioned (butchered) during the episode: “When I dare to be powerful—to use my strength in the service of my vision—then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” -Audre Lorde

On this episode of the School of Healing, I had the opportunity to talk with Dalia Kindsey about health disparities in the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities. Dalia shares her personal story of discrimination and how not being seen fully led her to guide and help others in the wellness industry.

Dalia Kinsey is a queer Black Registered Dietitian, keynote speaker, the creator of the Body Liberation for All podcast, and author of Decolonizing Wellness: A QTBIPOC-Centered Guide to Escape the Diet Trap, Heal Your Self-Image, and Achieve Body Liberation. On a mission to spread joy, reduce suffering, and eliminate health disparities in the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities, Dalia rejects diet culture and teaches people to use nutrition as a self-care and personal empowerment tool to counter the damage of systemic oppression. Dalia works at the intersection of holistic wellness and social justice, continually creating wellness tools and resources that center the most vulnerable, individuals that hold multiple marginalized identities.

On this episode of the School of Healing, I had the opportunity to talk with Sarah Bright and learn more about our chakras and how we hold stress & trauma energetically. Sarah provided an overview of the chakras and gave us insight to identify if we have blocked chakras as well as strategies that we can use to heal and recover.

Sarah has been a certified personal trainer, nutritionist, and group fitness instructor for nearly two decades. She's helped thousands of people, on multiple continents, to reach their health and wellness goals. While she still does that work, Sarah is now also the host of the podcast, Your Chakra Coach, a show that blends ancient information about our energy system, with practical modern physiology and psychology. While it started as a show primarily about physical health, the 2020 pandemic created a huge space to discuss mental and emotional health. The show has grown into an exploration of how the chakra system can be used to improve physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness to bring us closer to our highest, most authentic self.

“Life is not a sprint; it is a marathon. If we give everything we've got in these first few miles, we won't have anything left for the rest of our lives. We must control and refuel it through mindfulness.”

“Journeying home to self isn't about getting there. It’s about coming to a place in your life of unbecoming, shedding the layers, releasing self-doubt, owning your worth, and trusting your intuition. “

Today's world is often inundated with messages telling us how we should look, act, and think. It can hurt our self-esteem and feed our inner critic negatively. The inner critic is the voice inside our heads that tells us we are not good enough, failing, or not worthy of love and respect. It can be challenging to overcome it, but it is essential if we want to know our purpose.

Cultivating self-compassion and acceptance is essential in quieting your inner critic and navigating balance in life. We all make mistakes, and we all have flaws. So instead of beating yourself up, show yourself some kindness and empathy. This can help you build a stronger sense of self-worth and lead to a more fulfilling life.

Let's begin our journey to self together by learning how to quiet our inner critic with Deepshikha Sairam in this episode. She is a keynote speaker on Inner Critic and metaphysical teachings. She helps high-achieving women get beyond their inner critic to unlock their limitless potential for more creativity and meaning.

Exceptional Highlight

  • Life isn't about suffering. It's all about living. Why would we suffer if there was so much beauty around us? We need to let go of shame, guilt, and unworthiness. And that takes peeling off the layers and unmasking to really get to the core of who we really are.
  • Sometimes, you need to let go that you cannot find balance in life without being overwhelmed. Finding balance is not about not being overwhelmed. It's about finding moments of calm and peace and doing your thing again.
  • The feeling of overwhelm becomes like a huge mountain when we resist it. But when you acknowledge it and allow it to be there, you validate your feelings and permit yourself to let go of the burden; sooner or later, that feeling vanquishes or reverses.

Episode Highlights

3:21 - Deepshikha’s favorite grounding activities

7:18 - Quieting the Inner Critic and the Journey to Self-Worth

11:36 - How burnout can show up in our lives

15:59 - Significance of nurturing all aspects of wellness

18:54 - Deepshikha’s lowest point in life

20:37 - Why Advocating for our own Wellness is Helpful

22:15 - Importance of Trusting Our Inner Wisdom

“The future is very different from your life now. Therefore, the actions you should take must also be greatly different. You cannot do the same thing and get something different.”Are you hesitant to pursue your dreams because you don't feel ready? Do you think you need all the necessary skills, resources, and support before taking that leap? If so, you're not alone.

Many people feel this way and put their dreams on hold for years, if not decades. However, you don't have to equip yourself fully to pursue your dreams. Waiting until you're entirely ready may mean you never start at all. It can keep you stuck in a cycle of procrastination and inaction.

If you don't feel ready, take action anyway. Starting on the right foot can give you momentum and confidence. You'll learn as you go and make more informed decisions along the way. Embrace your worth and take action today.

Listen to the full episode and learn that believing in yourself, embracing your worth, and taking action is more significant than feeling ready. Remember, you don't have to be perfect to start. Don't worry about the rest. Just do it.

Don't forget to share this valuable episode with your friends and loved ones.

Exceptional Highlights

  • 90 to 95 percent of our thoughts come from our subconscious mind, like the submerged part of an iceberg versus the conscious part. It comes in every time we shake our comfort zone. And that's when we listen to and weigh internal battles and intuitive nudges.
  • You can't play small and have big goals and dreams.
  • We can get caught up in not being ready and not feeling worthy. But the most beautiful thing in life is when we stop holding ourselves back from evolving, growing, and experiencing the most amazing human experience.

"You are the expert on your lived experience because no one knows your life experience like you do, so own it. You hold the power to heal and create the best version of yourself."Life can be challenging sometimes, and feeling overwhelmed, powerless, and lost is easy. We underestimate the value of our individual experiences and innate healing capability. However, it's important to remember that our experiences make us who we are—the ups and downs, the joys and hurts, the pain and healing. They empower us to become part of the greater good.

We can reclaim control of our lives by owning our lived experiences. But first, we need deep awareness and recognition of where we are on the journey. And by slowly pacing ourselves to healing, we empower our mind, body, and soul back into balance.

I had a fulfilling conversation with Cacky Mellor about how her healing journey has led to the capacity that she does today. She is a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist and Educator, Somatic Experiencing© Practitioner, and RYT-500. She has cultivated a diverse somatic toolkit to support your healing journey.

Dive into the full episode and learn how to return home to your true self with the tools and techniques to heal and create the life of your dreams. Don’t forget to share this with your friends and loved ones who need to hear this most.

Exceptional Highlights

  • Healing doesn't mean we suddenly see everything clearly. Even amid sunshine and rainbows, there can be storm clouds. And that means we can simultaneously hold the complexity of suffering and healing and navigate the balance of living a beautiful life.
  • Slowing down allows us to ease through the process. Sometimes we are eager to jump straight in, but it can shock our nervous system and do more damage than benefit.
  • Being present in the moment is sacred. So it's essential to slow down and focus and relish what surrounds you and be grateful for being a part of such a beautiful world.

Episode Highlights9:13 - How Cacky’s interest in holistic healing started

11:58 - Reiki as a beautiful gift to her healing journey

15:09 - We are the ultimate expert in our own lived experience

17:41 - The impact of embracing the present moment

"Healthy living isn't only about the tactical and practical things. It's also about allowing your mindset and identity to shift into the person you want to be.”Most of us strive to stay healthy and be the most optimal version of ourselves. Making small changes in our daily routine can significantly impact our health in the long run. Eating a well-balanced diet, getting enough sleep each night, going out under the sunrise, getting out in the sun and being mindful of stress-reducing activities are all key components of a healthy lifestyle.

In addition, determining the root cause of illnesses is incredibly crucial instead of just taking topical approaches when health problems arise. We need to see what is happening in our bodies rather than applying treatments to the symptoms only.

In this episode, Maja Miller joined me to help us understand our bodies and health from the inside out. Maya is a Clinical Metabolic Health Coach helping busy humans get and stay healthy holistically. Listen to the full episode to look at your health optimally to be the best version of yourself. Don’t forget to share with your friends and loved ones.

Exceptional Highlights

  • Your metabolism is as unique as your fingerprint. We never know the best therapy for anyone unless we look at it from the inside. That's why you have to do the right thing in the right order.
  • We must look at the optimal and functional range versus the clinical range. Clinical ranges are based on the common statistical average, while the functional range is your optimal comparison within the population of your lifestyle, age, and gender.
  • Your soul is the watcher like a lighthouse—looking and planning and seeing everything. It whispers to us if it's a "YES" or a "NO." But we are so focused on the mind or body that we rarely hear our soul.

"Ultimately, our imagination can help us turn our goals into reality. It helps us create an image of success, stay committed and focused on our purpose, and push through any challenges that come our way."We exist in the world with the ability to imagine things in our minds. And our minds are capable of seeing the beautiful and the ugly, whatever we like. We were born with that capability, and it's built into us to inspire great ideas when we turn our attention to something.

But have you ever wondered what life would be like without imagination?

It would feel shallow, empty, and meaningless.

That’s why I invited Christoph Weigert over to the show to talk about how using imagination can help you heal and build a better life. In addition, we talk about how beautiful it can be to imagine from a positive perspective, with an intention to help and heal.

Let's listen until the end so you can guide your soul in examining your mindset and imagination.

Exceptional Highlights

  • Everything around us stems from someone's imagination. What you see is already made or done. We don't know the story or concept from how it came from someone's imagination until it becomes a reality.
  • We must connect ourselves with the environment through our senses to open our attention and use our imagination to create a mindscape or a beautiful version of things.
  • You are powerful enough to make things new and different. So go ahead and shake things up, break the regular flow of your day-to-day life to spark new thoughts and cultivate imagination.

Episode Highlights

9:22 How imagination helps the world be more innovative today.

11:16 The power of uniting the mind and body in reaching greater heights

17:17 The significance of imagination in connecting to your uniqueness as an adult?

21:56 How imagination can help you heal

26:33 How to stay grounded when negativity loops

32:57 Imagination as a core pillar to trauma work

35:16 Building a relationship with imagination

36:07 How trauma can impact our imagination.

41:09 How to help someone heal from trauma using their imagination.

43:27 How to be very imaginative

"Sometimes, when everything feels heavy no matter how hard you want to control things, all you need to do is SURRENDER."We pride ourselves on doing the most and keeping up with the fast pace of the world. We become overshadowed by our desires and are constantly searching for more.

Sometimes, you don’t realize how overloaded you are until you feel like everything is exploding around you. Only then, you realize you've taken too much at a time. It then becomes necessary to take an inventory, remove anything that is unnecessary, improve what needs to be better, and move forward with a clean and organized viewpoint.

Exceptional Highlights

  • Surrender means slowing down and not rushing the process to get to the destination. Chances are, we're going to miss the lessons in the journey and will not be prepared for what may happen. It is through the process that we learn.
  • The universe is foolproof. If it sees that you can't hold and sustain what you desire, it's not going to allow you to have it. It wants us to learn first so we can be ready.
  • Some of the best lessons come from failure. We can't do everything perfectly the first time. It's not realistic to always be good at something the first time.

**Episode Highlights

18:32 What drives me to keep adding goals**

  • Dom: No matter how much I accomplish as an adult, I still don't feel good enough because of personal insecurities.

27:32 Why do we need to Surrender

  • Dom: The amount of energy we use to accomplish things is far less than the power of the Universe. However hard we try, we still can't do it as efficiently, fast, and abundantly as the Universe can.

42:37 Establishing a new relationship with Failure

  • Dom: I'm probably not going to fail this time because I’ll do everything I can to prepare. But even if I fail, life will still go on.

45:09 Surrender Requires trust

  • Dom: When we surrender, we admit that we need help, that we can't do it all alone, and that we open ourselves up to receive help.

“What's more important than being centered despite the negative forces around us every day?”

It's normal to react when you get triggered by people; someone pushes your boundaries, but it's essential always to ground yourself by coming back to your body throughout the day. It’s important to take some deep breaths and allow yourself space to calm down.

In this episode, I guide you to reset your body and rebalance from an exhausting day of triggers. We use the pulse breath, taking two breaths in through the nose and two out through the mouth and let peace and tranquility replenish us. As you breathe, know that you own your power to regulate and control your thoughts and release emotions that don't serve your peace and purpose.

As a season-ending episode, let remind you that you are strong, and I'm so proud of you for taking care of yourself and staying authentic and aligned with your Inner Being! Feel more and do more every time you plug into this practice.

“The beauty of how seasons change is all connected to how nature flows. And we humans, as part of nature, shall flow by how seasons are leading us to navigate life and businesses in a more aligned and authentic way.”As far as acknowledging what is true for me matters most in how I show up, I'm living life in alignment and authenticity. And that means self-reflecting and resting this January, just like how nature is hibernating with the cold weather. This is the perfect time to gather and regenerate my energy.

As I close the curtain for season two, I want to remind you all to pay attention to yourself and honor how you feel. Stay with what is true for you. Even If it means resting for a moment, that's better. It makes us more productive and intuitive rather than punishing and pushing ourselves to do things that aren't authentic to how we feel. This is the best time to put yourself together, to wrap everything up, to come back refreshed, rejuvenated and new for Spring.

After all, we are just humans, not machines. We will always seek balance and rest.

See you soon for Season Three!

Exceptional Highlights

  • The rest of nature hibernates during winter, but we humans start the year in January, in the middle of the winter season—pushing productivity and setting goals, which go against our natural biology. It's time to make changes from the place of authenticity and alignment with the season and gear ourselves up for the goals.
  • It feels good to intentionally decide to pause and slow down and remind ourselves to honor how we feel and to work with what is true for us.
  • It is essential to be mindful of the rhythm of the season and your energy timeline-wise. Know when to slow down and nurture, and allow yourself time to reflect and awaken before you set goals to build, produce, harvest and store.

Episode Highlights

09:49 How creating the course is meant for my Healing Journey

  • Dom: GROUNDED came to me as something that I was assigned to create, but it was also the medicine that I needed.

26:46 Paying attention and honoring our Authentic Voices

  • Dom: We must accept and acknowledge what is true for us instead of feeling guilty.

36:17 Finding Alignment and Authenticity with Spring

  • Dom: Spring is all about newness and new beginnings, and it feels suitable to transition and shift into the Spring Season.

45:05 Finding Transparency in oneself while living an Authentic Life.

  • Dom: It’s okay if you don’t feel okay; if you have no motivation at the moment. We live in a world where it is so easy and harmful to compare ourselves to others on social media. It’s purely human to sometimes not have the momentum.

“Sometimes when we are out of words or out of control of things, we tend to breathe deeply. And then find light from there.”

Our breathing is automatic. We don't have to work so much in our system to breathe. And in us humans, it's a sign of life and vitality. So what more would it be if we were mindful of our breathing?

For today's episode, I'm helping you allow yourself to release the tension in your mind through the box breathing technique. This practice helps ease up your busy and loud mind that is trying to be the superman to most in the pictures or your imagination. This time let breathwork be the hero.

Know that you can release and clear whatever thoughts are weighing on your head. You can pause and breathe them out whenever things feel noisy. Or you may want to declutter your mind. You can always plug yourself into this episode.

If this helps, share this breathwork healing and love with friends, family, or whoever needs to hear this.

“There are certain things that only a few can fill our cup, replenish us and be able to sew the broken pieces, helping us go back to a more resourced space.”

While we are all equipped to hold something, we expect others to do the same. But it’s helpful to know that we each have differences in adapting accordingly and communicating our thoughts effectively. That’s why we must deepen our capacity to hold space for others and build emotional awareness.

So this episode, Menaadchi and I discuss Non-Violent Communication to heal intergenerational trauma and let go of things that are not ours to carry. Meenadchi is a somatic healing practitioner whose work centers on the softness of meeting our best self and deepening into our collective light. Using a blend of Family Constellation Therapy and Non-Violent Communication, Meenadchi supports inquisitive individuals and entrepreneurial changemakers in reconnecting with the intuitive wisdom of your bodies so that we can co-create intergenerational healing by changing the way we speak to ourselves, each other, and the universe.

Even when we are already healed and we help other people heal, there are still spaces where healing is needed.

Exceptional Highlights

  • We all have different capabilities that we can hold, and some of us can hold trauma like it doesn't feel overwhelming. And we must recognize that there is a gap in each individual's capacity to set boundaries and expectations so we can still show up in the relationship.
  • It's freedom and worth it to internalize the factors that shaped us and understand how to show up better for each other and with each other while honoring one's capacity. So we take less responsibility for other people's behaviors and actions.
  • Joy is a deep sense of warm trust and warm faith in the core of my stomach. And going back to this kind of place is a big thing.

Episode Highlights

16:17 What is Non-Violent Communication?

  • Meenadchi: It's not true that everybody can speak their needs into spaces at any time. There are spaces where unsafe. It's essential to navigate well and be mindful of the nuances around you.

27:59 What is Intergenerational Trauma

  • Meenadchi: Trauma is any incident that hits somebody or a family who may not have the resources to cope. The love gets interrupted due to unaddressed trauma, resulting in flowing forward to generations.

41:14 The Roots of Trauma

  • Dom: Those who cause harm have often been deeply impacted and shaped by systems of oppression, such as ableism, capitalism, racism, and misogyny.

“One of the things that can move us through life’s cycles is outgrowing where we are currently. That's why it's essential to step evolve and not get stuck in one place.”

We are all spiritual beings living a human existence. And there are times when we need to declutter to get a better picture of what wants to be birthed within us. We must be mindful that the life cycles and nature are our guides to help us tap into ourselves and to stay aligned.

We move with pure intentions when we understand the cycles of life. And we must remember to dance through and enjoy those cycles. Remember, we go inward for us to go outward.

For this episode I am joined by April McMurtry for her to share her Lunar wisdom with us. April is a dynamic Lunar facilitator, course creator, and founder of THE MOON IS MY CALENDAR. April loves to share the language of the Moon to help us access our inner wisdom - inspiring us all to take care of ourselves, each other, and the Earth!

Join me in learning about the Lunar Cycle and how to listen to our body's rhythmic energy patterns and dance with the cycle to breathe purpose and alignment into our lives.

Exceptional Highlights

  • We must live and embody what we teach to our people to emulate our powerful message. It can look like coming stepping back from practices for maintenance and prioritizing ourselves.
  • Bringing our mindfulness, attention, and awareness to the moon's pulse of natural cycles can transform our thoughts, experiences, and emotional state through a whole new lens.
  • When we open our hearts, we know for ourselves the risks we are willing to take to understand what we have, what we can do, and what we can hold. Much like the energy of a rose, you will not see its beauty without its petals and thorns.

Episode Highlights

17:02 The Journey to understanding alignment with Lunar Time

  • April: The best way to communicate the moon's guidance is to find it within your body or the BREATH.

29:50 Rhythmic Energy Cycle as a start to following the Lunar Calendar

  • April: Is my energy spiraling outward? Or is my energy drawing me inward?

34:40 The importance of Intuition to align your life with the Lunar Cycle

  • Dom: It's hard to feel connected to anyone or anything else when we are disconnected from our vessel.

42:05 The Importance of the Lunar Cycle to the Venus Cycle

  • April: The moon has a nurturing quality of unconditional love and care. And Venus has is a quality that just wants to flow naturally to us.

“It’s okay to not be okay and to need help. That doesn't make you weak; it just makes you human. Instead, reconnect, and find the purpose and meaning of your soul.”We all have our “social media lives” where we share our wins and highlights with friends and family. But we don't show when we are struggling. Instead, we battle silently with life, afraid to show the world what is really going on. To support those around us that may need help, we have to recognize the signs that someone is not okay.

This episode is a response to the shocking death of Stephen tWitch Boss. It's a reminder of the beauty of life, and encouragement that you are worthy of help and are capable of healing.

Life is full of highs and lows. We must learn to handle our failures, release what is no longer serving us and be open to talking about our pain with those we trust.

Exceptional highlights

  • Social media can be dangerous. People lose loved ones to death by suicide, which is unexpected and shocking. The images that we see in the public oftentimes are not real. We never know if people are in pain, depressed, or in danger.
  • Our mind can make us believe that something is wrong with us, that people will judge us, that we are broken, or that we are a burden to others. And we tell ourselves these stories and it can be dangerous to get stuck in that place.
  • When we breathe, we can access trillions of cells, restructure ourselves, let things go, and release the negative energy our cells hold. With the help of a trusted breathwork facilitator, this can help to release stress, anxiety, trauma, and depression.

Episode Highlights

15:02 What is Mental Health

  • Mental health is a state of being mentally well and optimal; is the capacity to cope with everyday stresses of life.

37:34 Talk Therapy alone is not Enough

  • We typically talk to a therapist or psychologist; it stops there with no releasing or healing happening because we're just talking through things. Trauma is stored in the right side of the brain, while talk therapy is a left brain approach to healing.

45:57 Understanding Chakras

  • We must realize that we have energetic bodies that can hold stress and trauma that psychologists often don’t address.

"Each human [design] needs to connect and move with each other, from energetic capacities, gifts, and wisdom to understand our purpose deeper."

How many times were you told to do this and be like that? And how did you release the pressure to show up your own way?

In this episode, I am joined by Elyse Preston to discuss Human Design as a tool for understanding life and our unique gifts. She is an Intuitive Life Coach and Human Design Guide and does healing, leadership, creativity, and spirituality works.

Each of us is different, and we function in our purpose better if we understand our human design type. As incredibly diverse and unique individuals, we have our own strategy, inner authority, specific skills and gifts to live and fulfill in this lifetime. So as we grow and evolve to our true destination, it's essential to plug into the human design that we are to walk highly aligned and move authentically along our path.

Exceptional Highlights

  • When it's time to grow and evolve, our soul will raise its own ceiling and clear out the basement, even if it looks very tiring.
  • It's hard to level up to what your soul wants to do when your mind is kept safe in a box that is thinking too small.
  • Discomfort is temporary. It's something that we get to move through to experience greater alignment and abundance and to keep away from places that no longer fit or are serving our purpose well.

Episode Highlights

08:45 Signs of being disconnected from your purpose

  • Elyse: I was asked to hold and didn't receive support and resources to meet my expectations and noticed myself being short with people and being harsh and rude, which is not who I want to be.

23:24 The Power of intuition and dishonoring external validations

  • Elyse: My body and soul told me I could do it and go for it. That was all I could hear internally, despite receiving a very different message externally.

35:49 What is Human Design?

  • Elyse: Human design is based on your unique date of birth, time, and place. It is about understanding the subtle energies at work inside and outside us. It's a system that focuses on our actions, giving us a whole new language to talk and describe our experiences as spiritual and energetic beings on the planet.

You have to stay in the fire; you have to stay where it's uncomfortable. You’ll only play safe and afloat in your comfort zone. Go where there is growth. What's one thing that's holding you back? What does it look and feel like to start doing what you should have been doing? Yeah, I know. There's fear and discomfort.

Oftentimes, our minds are so cluttered and are battling with voices in our head from other people or family. And for me, it's wrong to make a decision from a frantic space. I've been there, and it led me to most mistakes. But as I learn to balance my emotions and identify the ego from my Higher Being, things come super clear. And the fear and discomfort of leaving my comfort blanket no longer resides.

In this episode, I share how I take control of my emotional home, like doing yoga, meditation, and breathwork to tap into my Higher Self. It's time to place the ego in the back seat.

Exceptional Highlights

  • We need to balance both our ego and the Higher Self. You cannot get rid of your ego completely. You must keep calm, take control, and let your Higher Self take the driver's seat while putting your ego in the passenger's seat.
  • We must clean our emotional home through mindset and spiritual work to find more clarity and help us get in alignment with our purpose in life.
  • One of the most important things to do is surrender. You have to be willing to take your hands off the steering wheel and let the universe, source, God, or whatever you believe in, as far as higher power step in and intervene on your behalf.

Episode Highlights

18:14 The price of following the Inner Wisdom

  • Dom: Everything started to open up the minute I obey my Higher Self. It felt like the universe, source, God, ancestors, or angels were waiting for me to make a move.

21:18 How to decide according to the Inner Compass

  • Dom: I never make a decision whenever I'm confused because I know that it’s not the energy of my higher self.

36:13 What happens when we Surrender

  • Dom: I was doing yoga one day when I decided to surrender, ugly crying and that was when I clearly understood what I needed to do.

37:17 The Art of grounding ourselves to find Clarity and Inner Peace

  • Dom: We need to move and release manipulating energies through breathwork, yoga, walking, swimming, or anything that helps us meditate on things well.

"We all need to be held and supported by ourselves and one another."Do you know what it means to be resilient with pain, get through it, and end up on the other side with a greater sense of purpose? As humans life comes with its fair share of struggles. But we are resilient. We are designed to release pain and to get past it. When we choose to heal, we evolve into truly purposeful humans, no longer being victims to our past stories but instead letting our pain be the key to our destiny. Helping us to find greater purpose for ourselves and others. Remember, you’ll never be led wrong on your journey as long as you listen to and trust your intuition.

In this episode, Sam Akers and I have a wonderful conversation about past trauma, which was the root of her illness. She was diagnosed with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia in 1998. However, it was when she found Restorative Yoga and Buddhist Mindfulness that helped her to heal and catapulted her onto the path she is walking today.

Listen as she shares with us how these tools helped her transform from a person struggling with pain into someone who now holds space for others to heal every single day.

Exceptional Highlights

  • In restorative yoga, the REST aspect helps balance the polyvagal system, the vagus nerve. It gives the ability of the nervous system, immune system, endocrine system, and enteric nervous system in the gut to come back into balance slowly.
  • There are only two actual true things happening in the present moment. Something comes in through our body’s senses; if it's interesting enough, awareness knows it. From there, we get to choose what we believe with this newfound awareness.
  • It takes practice, training, and dedication to be kind and compassionate around the discomfort and pain we experience and see how our minds cause our suffering.

Episode Highlights

27:26 The vision to pay forward the healing received.

  • Sam: I made a conscious decision to help others heal and imagined what my life would look like when I was well.

40:09 Phenomenal things about Restorative Yoga

  • Sam: Restorative yoga offers rest and resets all body systems to connect to ourselves, to the heart, and to the mind.

43:21 Why do we need to rest and let things go

  • Sam: One of the reasons why we run so fast is we're running from the uncomfortable things, even if it's on a subconscious or utterly unconscious level.

52:47 The three human poisons in Buddhism

  • Sam: Human greed, hatred, and delusion have caused chaos, which has been the challenge since day one.

"Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth in uglier ways." – Dr. Sigmund FreudSome people are stuck in a perpetual state of autopilot thinking "that's the way it is." And you may have heard this before but you have to allow yourself to come off of autopilot and FEEL. Really experience life. Oftentimes we carry so much pain and hurt on the inside, yet still continue to wake up each day smiling, while holding it all up.

It doesn’t have to be that way. The hurt you feel signals that you are not living authentically. Negative feelings and emotions is the way our communicates with us and lets us know that our unhealthy patterns are not for our best good. Those emotions remind us to seek answers and ask, "what are these feelings and emotions trying to tell me?"

In this episode, Pamela Elaine Nichols and I uncover ways to heal and break through hidden trauma causing us to feel inadequate, and hold onto self-doubts, and insecurities. Pam also shares her struggles as a mother and the courage required to divorce her husband, which helped her to find true happiness and more purposeful work. We also discuss epic lessons from her book Muddy High Heels: 14 Lessons Learned From My Breakdown, Breakup & Breakthrough that will help you examine your own life. Tune in to receive all the valuable juiciness from this episode.

Remember: You can’t get to the other side without UNCOVERING what you buried.

Exceptional Highlights

  • When we try to numb our pain or the things we don't want to feel, we also numb the joy, happiness, bliss, and good moments.
  • The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek. – Joseph Campbell
  • Mistakes are beautiful things in disguise. Our mistakes hold beauty and guidance.

Our minds work like a magnet. They draw in all the information from the sights, sounds, and feelings we experience every day. And that's a plethora of work for our mind, you know? That's why it's essential to add a routine to relax and clear our minds.

Some days are really hard y'all... But I want you to know that we have the potential to not just receive; we can also release and stay still and control what comes into our headspace and what doesn't.

In this episode, I offer my voice as your guide to help you release anxiety, stress and overwhelm from the noise in your mind. You are capable of many things—and of course, you are capable of healing. Today I am guiding you through a pulse breath and sigh breath combo to feel more grounded and centered as you quiet your mind in this 10-minute breathwork session.

Remember that you are the source of your healing and stillness; your body and your breath are always available for you to take back your control.

You can always come to this episode when you need a moment of stillness and peace.

"Healing is remembering your most authentic self. Who you were before the world told you who you needed to be. It's a process of shedding and releasing all the things that no longer serve you, whether it's beliefs, patterns, or ways of thinking."

You've probably heard that healing is a process. But what does that mean, exactly? It means you'll be shedding old habits and beliefs that no longer serve you—and it's going to be messy. Healing is the process of remembering your most authentic self before society told you who you needed to be “successful”.

We all deal with things in our lives that don't feel aligned. Whether it's a relationship that isn't working or an unhealthy habit, or a job that sucks the life out of us, we all find ourselves trying to fit into the mold society has created for us—a mold that isn't always healthy or true to who we are deep down inside. And as we allow ourselves to remember the person we are destined to be, we realize how much of our programming isn't serving us. Thankfully, there is a way to break free from that mold—and find our way back to our true identity, our most authentic self—and it starts with healing.

Healing is about loving yourself and nourishing your mind, body, and spirit so that you grow and transform into who you're meant to be. I've been committed to my own healing journey for a few years now, and I'm here to tell you that it isn’t easy. But today, I am a completely different version of myself mentally, physically, and emotionally. Saying yes to the journey is one of the best things that ever happened to me.

I am an advocate for the transformative power of MEDITATION, BREATHWORK, and YOGA. These are powerful tools for aligning your mind, body, and soul.

EXCEPTIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Your heart and internal wants and desires don't always match up with the world, society, and the people around us.
  • Once you allow your light to shine, there's no dimming it. We have to awaken from our state of autopilot.
  • Our inner voice is always giving us nudges that things are off. But the mind is so loud all of the time that we learn to constantly ignore our intuition and internal guidance system.

Highlights:

10:48 Healing as a Process of Remembering

  • Dom: Healing is remembering the beautiful, authentic versions of ourselves.

16:18 Healing is letting go of External Validation

  • Dom: Internal validation matters most, not what my family and society think about me but what my authentic self wants to be.

20:01 The Price of trusting the Healing Process

  • Dom: You have to be willing to let go of paradigms even though it's challenging. Just trust that on the other side, life will be a lot more beautiful.

27:44 Focus on Consistency with Building New Habits

  • Dom: Meditate 5 minutes every day, seven days a week, rather than 35 minutes on Saturday and Sunday. It’s all about quantity over the duration.

"Our trauma shows up in everything we do, from the way that we love to the way that we parent if we have children. And, of course, it shows up in our business as entrepreneurs."

For me, success feels like living an authentic and aligned life—it’s when I wake up every day and feel fulfilled by the work I'm doing and the people I'm surrounded by.

As an entrepreneur, my version of success looks like being able to build community and create a safe space for people to come together, share their stories, and find support for their own journeys.

But my version of success may be different from yours. We have different goals and aspirations. And we don't share the same paths or stories. As we all are in a constant process of learning, unlearning, and growing, we are gradually evolving and transforming into something significant. Each new experience is a chance to learn more about ourselves and the world around us. And that is why it's essential to live a life by our own rules and definition of success

And this week, I'm excited to bring you an interview with Sam Smith. Sam is a designer, entrepreneur, and mom who is on a mission to infuse more soul into style. In addition to being a wife and mom —she holds several titles including CEO of New Vintage by Sam, founder of The Creative Consulting Group, founding member of She's Well Networked and COO of Bmore Empowered. Listen in as she talks about how she sparked her creative style in business, and how she cultivated a culture in her company.

Exceptional Highlights:

  • If we're not honest with ourselves, we are on autopilot. We will be in general spaces, not in our signature. Seeking external validation is never the move.
  • Entrepreneurship is important, but it's not everything. Though I do want to be successful, I want to have balance and time for family.
  • The world feeds messages that make us feel we aren't enough. So it's up to us to protect and nurture ourselves; nobody is going to put on a cape and rescue us.

Show Highlights:

9:12: The importance of finding purpose in art and passion

  • Sam: I recreated designs by looking at magazines and using my imagination to re-envision the pieces. But first, I had to find myself and what my fashion aesthetic was.

18:12: Finding the way to entrepreneurship

  • Sam: I felt I had the spirit of an entrepreneur, but I found the confidence when I got sick of the traditional method.

26:44 The significance of having the confidence to grow

  • Sam: I've learned to develop more simplicity and find ways to refine my process.

29:09 The Vision of the Healing Hardware Collection

  • Sam: My focus in creating the Healing Hardware Collection was to get people to think more intentionally about how we adorn our bodies.

49:38 Ways to nourish our soul and the deeper aspects of oneself

  • Sam: I listen to quiet my mind a lot. So driving has become one of my meditative practices. I love to go in silence, especially on the back roads with lots of greenery.

"Every time we decide not to listen to our inner being, our Higher Self, the internal guidance system that holds all the wisdom, gets out of alignment. We get further away from the path we are supposed to be traveling."

Establishing alignment with our inner self requires authenticity. It requires us to trust ourselves even when the direction we are being guided toward feels scary & quite frankly, might not make a lot of sense.

Oftentimes that direction & those nudges feel scary & uncomfortable, so we ignore our Inner Being. And then we end up misaligned. Misalignment happens when our minds & spirit are not on one accord. It can be an internal struggle, a massive weight on your shoulders. It can feel like there's a considerable gap between what you want & what you are doing.

We find ourselves stuck in the HOW? How do we rise to become the version of ourselves that we envision? The answer is that we have to learn to live more authentically & trust. We have to learn to accept ourselves as we truly are despite our imperfections. Despite the highlight reels from social media, life isn't meant to be perfect. That shift in perspective requires us to make some significant shifts in our lives. To slow down. To let go of all that is not working for you & to let go of the parts of you that don't align with your true self.

In this episode, I invite you to join me to find purpose & meaning in everything you do so that you can live the most authentic version of yourself.

Exceptional Highlights:

  • The most beautiful thing to note is that we always get to pivot & change; nothing has to stay the same.
  • We all have our unique music & beat & stories. And people will resonate differently with your music & beat based on their own life experiences. That’s the beauty of this life journey.
  • People can be helpful guides for you, but you will always be out of alignment if you are not operating from your inner guidance system. From your heart & soul.

Show Highlights:3:35: A significant achievement in my journey

  • Dom: I have officially finished my breathwork certification program. And now, I am a certified breathwork facilitator.

9:16: The significance of living intentionally

  • Dom: But my ego was resistant to intuitive nudges. Until it got me to a place where I could not ignore my soul; my inner being's desire to slow down.

19:22: My WHY! My inspiration behind the work that I do today

  • Dom: I realized that the root cause of my grandmother's brain aneurysm & other diseases & ailments was unresolved stress & trauma.

27:09: The time I realized my MISALIGNMENT

  • Dom: Behind closed doors, I was very insecure. My self-esteem was not that great. There were many limiting beliefs and self-doubt.
