We spend so much time and energy focused on what we're doing in life. We think that all of our doingness is going to get us the results we want, so that we can feel the experiences that we want. For example, we work all day to accomplish a list of tasks, so that we can reward ourselves with the feeling of relaxation and ease at the end of the day.

But experiences like joy and peace are not a byproduct of achieving or doing things - they are an inner state of being. Instead of chasing these feelings in your external world, freedom lies in learning to cultivate a relationship with them inside yourself, so that you can bring this energy into your actions.

Being values are any states of experience of states of being that you value. Some examples of 'being values' are: curious, calm, relaxed, joyful, expansive, graceful, etc.

They are feeling states.

Decide which feeling state you want to experience today, and learn to connect with it in the following 5 minute meditation practice.

How often is your mind in the present moment? As my teacher would say, "how awake are you in your life?". Most of us are sleepwalking through life. We're running on autopilot, experiencing everything around us through the lens of our minds. As the French writer Anais Nin once said, "We do not see things as they are - we see things as we are". This way of living keeps us trapped in our patterns of stress and anxiety.

Freedom from this stress-filled state comes when you step out of the mind and tune into the present moment.

Join me in this 7 minute meditation with a focus on reconnecting with the stillness of the present moment.

How much stress, anxiety, and depression have you experienced as a result of comparing yourself to others? How much Joy have you missed out on because you're so busy believing in your unworthiness?

Gratitude can be an antidote to stress or feelings of inadequacy, but gratitude is still focused on what you have in your own life. So the moment you look up and find other people thriving, does your gratitude hold strong? Or do stress and comparison take you back down? The Buddhist pillar of MUDITA is the key to going beyond gratitude and experiencing a kind of Joy that is untouchable no matter what is happening in life - or who it is happening to.

Let's explore it.
