I hope these chats about grace-filled motherhood, gospel-centered parenting, and simple-living homeschool, will make you feel less alone while you run errands, or prepare dinner!
Have you ever had questions you wish you could ask about special needs, but also don't want to offend? Jessica Hurlbut is here to talk to us about what it looks like living with a child who has special needs. She shares what it looks like to get the diagnosis, decide if you should grow your family further, and live daily like with a child who has special needs.
At the end, she talks about how to live in kindness to your community. I hope this conversation makes future conversations more accessible for you!

This doesn’t mean a believer will never experience anxiety. We see all through the Old Testament people of faith wrestling with anxiety and intrusive thoughts of doubt. What separates you out as a believer is you have the Holy Spirit in you to strengthen you as you speak truth to your anxieties and intrusive thoughts.

You want a cozy home, but you don't have a big budget. A few simple tweaks can go a really long way! Myquillyn encourages us first to observe our spaces. Then, look at the decorating trinity of "seating, lights, and storage". From there we can ditch the clutter and add the layers that make it cozy and our own!

I realized again because serve Jesus my time and effort can't be stolen. Every hour is already his. He uses my life in acts both domestic tasks, volunteer projects, and writing to bring his kingdom and for his glory, and somehow also my own joy.
My life cannot be stolen because it's already bought and paid for, and he does beautiful things with everything he is given!

When I started focusing on what Jesus had done for me it changed the way I thought about my life. The words I replaced them with were “He is transforming me daily to nurture as he nurtures." “Your home is not a shrine to your good taste, but a place of welcome." “God's Spirit will guide my words.” The freedom from changing my scripts caused me to be more thoughtful and wise as I moved forward.

The goal of our reading isn’t to “get through,” but to remember and apply. If reading God’s word isn’t bringing delight, blessing, and transformation, then maybe we have found our value in making it a competition to do the most, or on the other side maybe it’s become something unnecessary to our existence. His word doesn’t return void, so read what you have brain retention for, and be formed by him.

Elisabeth Elliot’s voice was a fixture voice for thousands of living rooms through her 13-year daily radio show. After her husband Jim Elliot was killed on the mission field her best-selling book was the inspiration for the faith of three generations.
She was a prolific author and one of the few prominent female voices of the church of her time. She was a purity culture and traditional gender roles icon for thousands of women. Her words, and expressed views at that time have been polarizing for many Christians. I’ve since learned her true story was more complex than any of us knew.

We discuss what's helpful for friends to do during this time, and what isn't helpful. We also cover a theology of death, and how to find the God of comfort in that pain.

My goal then was to get them "saved". My goal now is to know the Bible, because to know Jesus is to fall in love with Him!

How do you get the house clean when little people are "undoing it" faster than you can get things done? Today I laughed until I cried with Heidi as we talked about tasks around the house. We have 7 boys and a girl between the two of us and keeping things "done" isn't easy.
A few months ago she said, “Do one thing that can not easily be undone.” and it’s changed the way I clean my house but also put words to something that has been the framework of housekeeping for me!
Clutter cleaning can be done pretty quickly if the deep cleaning framework is already there!

We talk about Theology of the Womb and some of the interesting points the book made. (In hindsight now having read that book, theologically, I come from a different lens than the author of that book, but I also learned a lot from the thoughts presented there too!)
Not all our energy is linear and the ebbs and flows allow us to refocus on the parts of life we want to come back to.
