NEXUS - - Connected Acquisition Teams Get It Right the First Time!
DAU and the National Contract Management Association (NCMA) are partnering to host Nexus March 3-6, 2024. This event unites government and industry acquisition teams and provides a unique platform for cross-functional collaboration to tackle pressing issues in federal procurement, such as supply chain risk, cybersecurity, and sustainability.
In this episode, Jim and Scott interview Carly Cox, who is the President, and Chief Operating Officer of JJR Solutions, and Professor Julie Knechtel, professor of program management at DAU's Midwest Region. Carl and Julie are the MCs for this year's conference - they will bring the energy! In this podcast they talk about why they volunteered to MC the event, what is exciting and unique about it, and why you should consider attending. Jim and Scott will be conducting interviews of attendees, team leads, and speakers, and hope you will talk to them as you enter the conference center. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
This event is specifically designed for professionals in all functional areas within the acquisition community. Bringing all members of the team together (pricing, program management, logistics, contracts, legal etc.) is critical to providing the warfighter what they need more efficiently and with higher quality. Nexus is designed to do exactly that. Learn from and train with integrated teams who have broken barriers in space exploration, disaster response and beyond. They will share their successes and pitfalls. This is a great way to share knowledge across departments to help make better business and buying decisions. Chris shares the class subjects such as how Industry assess their priorities leading to how that influences their business decisions. The course then addresses, from a government perspective, how knowing this process can help us reach better acquisition outcomes. Chris explains how this Financial Management course can be of great benefit to those in the Contracting field as well, by looking at financial responsibility and understanding how the proportion of fixed costs in the cost pool for an indirect rate can have a significant impact on the rates. Chris provides a thorough breakdown of this class and the aspects that can help both financial managers and contracting professionals.

Scott and Jim have the pleasure with speaking with Dave Lewis, the Learning Asset Manager for CON 7600, Introduction to Incentive Contracting Course. Incentive Contracting is Dave's passion in contracting, and this course, along with the other Incentive Contracting courses (7610/7620/7630/7640), are two years in the making. Dave talks about what this course will focus on, the benefit of taking the course, how evaluated, and why you might be the right person - it is only a 1 hour course, so it might be a great opportunity to learn about the types of incentives - each of the incentives mentioned in this course may lead you to getting more information in another course mentioned above.

In this segment, Jim and Scott talk with Judy Whalen, DAU's developer for CCON 003 - the Proposal Analysis Credential. You will learn the purpose of the credential, how it is structured, the target audience, and when it would need to be renewed. Contracting officers are required to purchase supplies and services from responsible sources at fair and reasonable prices. There are various proposal analysis techniques prescribed in the FAR to guide contracting professionals when conducting the analysis of a contractor’s proposal. This credential will lead the learner through an examination of the techniques used to conduct price and cost analysis, and will provide an overview of the other techniques. If interested in the courses under this credential, please see CON 7300V, Price Analysis, and CON 7310V, Cost Analysis - the links are provided below - these courses have increased in length, due to student input, thus new podcasts are being released soon. In our last segment, part 4, of our series on Personal Services, Jim and Scott continue the conversation with Dr. Steve Fasko, a Personal Services expert (PHD Dissertation was focused on Personal Services Contracting - see links to his articles below) with DAU. In Part 1, Dr. Fasko provided an overview of Personal Services, in Part 2, he discussed the Thirteenth Amendment and how it relates to Personal Services Contracts, and in Part 3 he talked about Government Dependence on Contractors, to include Circular A-76, contractor employee recognition, and more. In Part 4,, Dr. Fasko discusses the Government's responsibility, direct supervision of contract employees, personal relationships with contractor employees, and preventing defacto person services contracts. We hope you enjoyed the series, please let your CORs know this exists, it will be a big benefit for them since they engage with service contractors regularly and hopefully this series will help them avoid the pitfalls of being a COR and defacto personal services. If you would like to reach out to Dr Fasko for more information, please contact him at Steven.Fasko@dau.edu - he is available for workshops, seminars, and consulting on personal services and other topics.

Welcome to Scott and Jim's First Year Anniversary podcast! Yes, they are showing video on this session, as there are no guests, and no real script to follow (as you will be able to tell - haha). They talk about how the first year went, what they have achieved so far, and the way forward. A special thanks goes out to Berni Crumb, their Producer, who keeps them in line, and handles the recording and post-production pieces of the recordings - without her they would be in trouble - LOL, DAU Public Affairs (Christen Goulding), DAU Media (Dennis Eisentein), the Frictionless Learning Team, and the support of DAU leadership at the MidWest Region (Carl Hayden) and DAU HQs, this podcast would not be possible. Please provide questions to them for future recordings.

Scott and Jim have the pleasure of talking with Dr. Jonathan Barkand, DAU's Learning Systems Project Manager, responsible for the addition of over 50,000 LinkedIn and Skillsoft Percipio learning assets to the DAU asset inventory - this is available to all our DoD Acquisition Workforce.
DoD personnel across the Department of Defense (not just the DoD Acquisition Workforce) will be able to register for both LinkedIn Learning and Skillsoft Percipio. Skillsoft Percipio provides traditional courses and access to books and book summaries. Skillsoft Percipio also provides assets in new ways (called “modalities”) through the virtual campus. These modalities include audio books and practice labs to allow users to try out their new software skills as well as access to live events. Skillsoft Percipio also offers “Collections,” related learning assets compiled on one landing page to enable users to explore different learning options related to the same topic.
LinkedIn Learning provides include guides, courses, books, and videos and provide a new opportunity to expand skills, take new training.
Both LinkedIn Learning and Percipio allow the learner to earn Continuous Learning Points (CLPs). Training includes a variety of topics and can be accessed from the “Enroll in Online Training” button on the virtual campus’s landing page (must be logged in to view). Users can search the virtual campus either by topic or filter by provider.

Scott and Jim talk about a relatively new platform called CONnect Live and what a great resource this can be for the 1102s out there. Contracting can be confusing, right? Wouldn't it be nice to have a place you could drop in, ask questions, and get answers from Contracting Subject Matter Experts from across the DoD? Well now you can. DAU introduces CONnect Live.
CONnect Live is where contracting professionals learn from each other, ask questions, share best practices, discover valuable tools & resources, and so much more. Nothing is off limits. Best of all, it is a place where contracting professionals can connect with each other, and leverage our collective contracting knowledge.
DAU invites you to get plugged in with the DoD contracting community each week for 1 hour at CONNECT Live! Participation for the full hour of the weekly CONnect Live is eligible for one CLP for each full session you attend if your organization approves. In order to record the CLP you will need to submit a request for the CLP through your organization's process for awarding and tracking CLP's.
CONnect Live is LIVE every Thursday at 11:30am Eastern.

Scott and Jim discuss with Christy Watts, DAU's Learning Asset Manager for CCON 012, Architect-Engineering Construction Contracting Credential. Christy explains what learning assets encompass the credential, if there is any order they must come in, whether you can take the assets without applying for the credential, and what you need to do to achieve the credential - such as, any tests within the assets or a final test for the credential itself. The learning assets included in the credential have taken contracting construction training to another level, and will highly benefit those in the construction "business" for DoD and the Federal workforce. This will benefit anyone (yes, not just for contracting) on the construction team - so please let your team members know of this credential.
