Key Quotes

02:49 When we understand our mind, we have the ability to completely turn our lives around, to completely change our lives, to completely be the person we want to be. - Kristin Bonney

05:00 We need to get lost in motherhood so that we can find ourselves. - Leashia Arrowsmith

08:45 If you feel lost in motherhood that is the alarm bell, that is the signal trying to wake you up. - Leashia Arrowsmith

09:02 Your triggers and the things that feel uncomfortable for you, are where the growth is. When we lean into those things, that’s where the magic can happen and that's where the transformation can happen but if we just keep thinking I feel lost as a mother and we’re running away from that and we’re not leaning into it then the journey that was meant to go on, kinda bit get lost. - Leashia Arrowsmith

11:34 It’s really about us as mothers stepping up and saying, okay, this is who I was what did I love myself then, this is who I am now, what I love myself now and literally integrating them together to become even better, even stronger, even more beautiful than what you were previously. - Kristin Bonney

16:18 If I want to be the best mum that I can be, I need to prioritize myself, I need to look after myself, then it's going to teach our children to do exactly the same thing. It’s going to teach them that they are a priority too. - Kristin Bonney

18:54 We really need to know ourselves to be able to navigate motherhood in a way that feels good for you, not what everyone else is saying, not what everyone else is doing, it’s really important to be able to set healthy boundaries and say no to the things that don't light you up. - Leashia Arrowsmith

33:49 We’re always gonna go through different seasons, no matter how old our children are. There’s always gonna be a new season coming so the more that we wish those away, the more that it’s taking away from the current season that we’re in. And just knowing that this season isn’t forever and it’s the same in business and the same in motherhood. When we really emphasize that it's not gonna be like this forever, is when we can truly surrender to the moment that we’re in, to the season we're in. - Kristin Bonney

Kristin is a mother of 3, she’s an NLP Certified Motherhood Mindset & Connection Coach. She is passionate about helping mothers rediscover their identity, thrive in motherhood and break generational cycles.

Key Quotes

04:25 Doing all the right things doesn’t mean you aren’t going to mess up your kids because the truth is perfect parenting is an illusion. No matter how hard you try you’re going to impact your children in ways you don’t necessarily want to & intend to.

04:48 Every human on this planet is here to face, overcome & grow beyond the challenges.

06:10 It’s also vital for mums to remember & honor their own goals, thoughts & emotions & to make time to take time for themselves.

11:20 It’s not a sign of weakness to ask for help, it is a sign of strength & wisdom to let supportive family & friends into your life.

16:15 You aren’t meant to love every minute of motherhood, not all sacred moments are pleasant & that doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with you.

17:32 It’s not for you to self-reflect over, it’s just you dumping your thoughts & feelings on a piece of paper so they are not staying stagnant inside you.

22:11 Doing things in a way that works for you & your family is the best strategy. The right way for you is a unique as one of a kind connection that you share with your child.

Key Quotes

12:30 We should have been educated about our birth decisions, understand all the options that are out there for us & how to advocate for ourselves, but also how to find trusted medical providers that you can have a share of conversations with so that if it doesn’t go through the plan you want to change what you wanted to happen, you can do that in a trusting way with your provider & not feel like you go through birth trauma. - Kristen O'Dell

29:17 We also have to learn that when we do release that to our support system, we have to do that with trust. Trust that they are gonna take just fine care of that baby it might be in a little bit different way than we do it, but the baby will still be fine, healthy & fed. And it's our time to rest & not worry about some of those details that really don’t matter that much. - Kristen O'Dell

29:43 If you found that there’s a better way to fold the diaper to prevent leak & they’re not doing it, they’re going to figure that out on their own & that will be their own lessons to learn as a parent in a way. Sometimes when we push that on our partners they feel inadequate. - Kristen O'Dell

31:48 Becoming a mother is gonna get you to heal if you don’t, then your relationships will suffer because you don’t know how to communicate your needs. - Leashia Arrowsmith

33:50 Women don’t want anyone to feel something is wrong & so we normalise the postpartum symptoms that we’re having. - Kristen O'Dell

37:04 Women need the support & it doesn’t have to feel so heavy & hard. - Leashia Arrowsmith

43:23 Listen to all the information you get around you, not just the internet, listen to aunties, grandmas, paediatricians & dietitian consultants & take the information & create your own combination of motherhood that works for you. Don’t put pressure on yourself to make someone else’s journey yours, because there is no identical walk through motherhood that is the same for each person and it’s also not the same for yourself. - Kristen O'Dell

44:36 Becoming a mother & taking care of an infant that you need to find your own recipe for doing that & you take it from all the different parts of you here & you just try until what works for you. - Kristen O'Dell

Kristen O'Dell, FNP-BC is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with over 17 years of experience in Neonatology and Newborn Medicine.

She has taken care of over 10,000 infants, attended more than 5000 deliveries, many of those c/sections and she has helped an estimated 8,000+ moms/babies get through those first crucial days of breastfeeding.

She specializes in the first month of life but also has expertise in pregnancy, labor, breastfeeding, and the first year of life. While trained in Western medicine (at Columbia University) and currently working in a hospital, she takes an integrative holistic approach to wellness and really listens to her patients.

Today’s guest is Kirryn Lee, she is a Matrescence Mentor, Childbirth Educator, co-parent to two little gals and recovering people pleaser. She’s on a mission to support other mothers to stop living to please others and start living for their magnificent selves. Matrescence, which is the process of becoming a mother, throws us into a whirlwind of self doubt, grief, disconnect, loneliness and a whole bunch of other toughness no one tells us about! This transition is begging mothers to pay attention and Kirryn believes this time is a spiritual awakening for all. Through her podcast Matrescence Awakening, group programs and 1:1 mentoring, Kirryn is supporting Mama’s to demystify the spiritual world and become their own healers through the bigness of this transition. As someone who used to hold judgemental opinions on spirituality; and also used to hold herself high on the mothering pedestal well before she had actual human children; Kirryn knows firsthand the power of leaning into the unknown, releasing perfectionism and surrendering to the messiness of it all.

This 6 minute Embodiment Meditation will help you get out of your head and back into your body.

It's no secret that most of us live in our heads and we have completely disconnected from our bodies.

Unfortunately living this way stops us from accessing our wisdom, connecting to our intuition and harnessing our feminine qualities - which are all paramount for creating deep connection with ourselves and with our loved-ones.

In this meditation I guide you out of your mind (where most of us are operating from) and back into your body (where you wisdom lives)

We start with creating a sense of safety within the body because to heal from the inside out we must FIRST feel safe.

But most of us DON'T feel safe inside our skin - that's why we do anything like - overeat, take drugs, over exercise, drink, gossip, vent, ruminate, scroll social media to stop us from FEELING.

But all that is about to change.

Are you ready to start feeling what needs to be felt and heal from the inside out?

Your journey starts here

Are you a busy mama who struggles with mum-guilt?

Do you feel guilty when you yell at the kids or give them “too much” TV time?

Do you feel like a “bad mum” because you work and wish you could spend more time with the kids?

If yes this episode is for you In this episode you’ll learn:

02:52 What is mum guilt

06:14 Why we experience mum guilt

07:20 Top 4 things that mums feel guilty about

08:17 Mum guilt vs. shame

10:58 What is the function of guilt and shame

12:09 Key benefit of negative emotions

13:25 How negative emotions affect our body

14:49 Understanding secondary emotion

16:28 Importance of identifying primary & secondary emotions

18:01 A guide to overcoming mum guilt

22:07 The healing mum guilt framework

Key Quotes

04:11 Mum's guilt escapes no one. If we leave our thoughts & beliefs unchecked, mum guilt can start to run our motherhood journey & stops us from enjoying the ride.

11:49 When we choose to see emotions as functional & meaningful instead of just uncomfortable & inconvenient, we can choose to use our emotions as a resource instead of seeing them as an obstacle.

13:11 Every emotion when it’s pure can serve a function & when we clean up our emotions they can guide us to a life of integrity & happiness.

16:28 When we can identify our primary & secondary emotions we can meet our child from a more loving space.

23:57 You can’t think your way out of emotions, you can’t rationalize your way out of emotions, you can go into all of the stories & you can connect all the dots but it isn’t gonna change anything until you actually process the emotions inside the body.

26:50 The journey of motherhood can feel so mentally & emotionally overwhelming & I don’t think anyone really prepares us for that part of the journey & if we haven’t learned the tools to regulate our emotions & speak up for our truth then we gonna suffer in silence.

Do you often feel frustrated, exhausted and annoyed by the motherhood journey?

Do you find it hard to self-regulate or feel triggered by your children big emotions?

Do you often feel anxious on your motherhood journey?

If yes this episode is for you.

In this episode you’ll learn:

02:12 Understanding the role of a Trauma-Informed Motherhood Coach & Emotional Wellness Expert

04:21 How does culture affect our attitude & behaviour

06:41 Managing differences & conflict over parenting styles

11:50 Why you should hire a coach

13:11 Signs that you need a Trauma-Informed Motherhood Coach

14:36 The most important healing tool for mothers 18:25 What you need to know about emotional safety

21:37 Parental influences on children's self-regulation

23:08 How to support an emotionally dysregulated child Key Quotes

05:39 So many of us have this anxiety because we’re so afraid to talk out.

16:03 I help people find their safety & that’s the biggest most important thing I feel that anyone can do & it’s easy to find in that moment - find things that help you feel safe.

18:12 Safety doesn’t have to be in our body because some people don’t feel safe in their bodies especially if they have been through trauma and so it might be outside of them.

21:24 If you don’t feel safe inside the body then you can start to look around you for other things that might help you feel safe.

22:04 One of the biggest mistakes I see most parents make is they try to teach the child to self-regulate before regulating themselves.

26:43 Some people can fall into that trap as you do this work & I’ve certainly fallen into the trap myself. And I was thinking, ‘I gonna always do it all perfectly & otherwise, I’m gonna traumatised my kids’. But what I realised is no matter what we traumatised our kids. We just have to learn to live with the fact that there are some points when we gonna be traumatised by something we did do or something we didn’t do or something we said. That is their experience & they’re allowed to have that experience. We can’t control it & it's letting go of that control.

27:26 You are only responsible for yourself. Yes, they are your children but you are not responsible for how they feel, how they act, or what they do, you are just the guide.

In this episode you’ll learn:

01:14 How I transitioned into my coaching career

03:17 Steps to become the person you want to be

03:52 Why every mother needs a Motherhood Coach

04:25 The truth about motherhood

07:07 (1) Get unstuck & gain positive reinforcement

08:27 (2) Overcome your overwhelm

10:16 (3) Crush your limiting beliefs to reach your true potential

11:35 The misconception about hiring a coach

12:30 Signs that you need a coach Key Quotes

03:15 We cannot change, what we cannot see.

05:05 I see so many women struggling, they feel isolated, burnt out & lonely because motherhood isn’t easy. It’s the most life changing transition you’ll ever go through on your life journey & that’s why you need support because you know it’s gonna trigger you, it’s gonna challenge you, it’s gonna change you & rock you to your core. You’re meant to feel lost on your motherhood journey because you’re being reborn, motherhood is a rebirth.

06:22 Motherhood is like an initiation, it’s initiating you into your new life.

08:00 Learning how to identify & dissolve painful beliefs that are running in the background can move you out of that helplessness & clear up a lot of the confusion as well.

09:15 All transition especially motherhood challenge is to re-examine our sense of who we are or the capabilities that we may have taken for granted & can be painful to let go of the person you used to be.

10:40 To achieve the results you want, you mostly need to change your attitude or your underlying beliefs.

12:07 A coach can bring some great tools & resources for success but you have to show up & do the work. It’s not your coaches job to change you, you have to be committed to doing the heavy lifting yourself if you want the relationship to work.

In this episode you’ll learn:

01:48 My background story and journey to becoming a coach

05:06 The impact of trauma on our lives

07:28 Navigating generational & childhood trauma

09:15 What's the difference between big ‘t’ and little ‘t’ trauma

10:36 Recognising the signs of trauma 10:57 Importance of inner work

12:34 Why is it important to have a coach

14:22 Not your average coach - what sets me apart from the rest

15:07 Healing in motherhood journey & its importance

Key Quotes

09:16 We all experience trauma to some degree. Trauma is a spectrum, we have everyday trauma, or what some people called little ‘t’ trauma like being bullied at summer camp or being shouted at by our loved one and then we have big ‘t’ trauma like being in a car accident for going to work. These things are all trauma and I’ve ever processed in the same way inside the body so it doesn’t matter if you experience big ‘t’ trauma or little ‘t’ trauma, it’s all held in the body the same way.

11:43 Your emotions are the foundation of everything else you experience in your life. Learning how to process your emotion effectively is one of the most important skills you ever learn for optimal health & deeply fulfilling relationships, if you don’t do the emotional work first everything else will just fall apart around you.

12:21 The only way to have a deeply fulfilling relationship with our loved ones is to heal ourselves first.

13:19 Most people get stuck because they know the information but they have trouble applying it.

14:57 Instead of fixing behaviours, I help clients find the feelings beneath the behaviours so that we can get to the root of the problem.

15:28 I see so many moms being bogged down by the unseen mental, and emotional life of motherhood. My belief is - we all need more support when it comes to the enormously life-changing event that is motherhood.
