Sometimes despite all our positive thinking and celebrating small wins, we just come away feeling un-inspired, not excited by work or our dreams or anything. This would be a good time to reflect. How do the twins handle it?

Takeaways

  • It’s okay for goals to change and priorities to shift. Sometimes we need that in order to reset or move forward again feeing inspired.
  • Nothing happens overnight. It’s okay to reinvent yourself as many times as you want regardless of your age. Just be patient as you go through those changes.
  • When you’re feeling un-inspired, take a break. Walk away from what you’re doing and take a pause. Engage in an interest or hobby that lights you up instead for a little while.
  • Regardless of how un-inspired you may be feeling, cultivate the faith and belief in yourself to overcome any challenge or obstacle.
  • Look at the things that other people have achieved and use that as evidence of what is possible for you. It’s proof of what you too can accomplish.
  • Sometimes when you are in the middle of hardship or a problem, you can’t see your way through but trust in your next step and focus on that. That next step will lead you to the next and eventually you’ll find your way out of it.
  • When worse comes to worst and you feel completely stuck, stop and do the thing that brings you the most joy instead. You’ll thank yourself later when that spark of inspiration to lead you on to your next step reveals itself.
  • When something doesn’t go your way, look at the way you react to it. This is your trigger for how you normally deal with unfavorable or unpleasant situations. You can absolutely change the way you react to it.
  • Healing, getting through past trauma and triggers will always be necessary.
  • Open up to someone you trust about your feelings of un-inspiration or other negative feelings.

We've talked about it before, and everyone else is talking about it, but that's because it's so good! Manifesting! But how do we actually do it beyond just putting an image on a vision board?

Takeaways

  • Manifesting is about how you feel when you think of the desire. Having an attitude of gratitude now for the thing you don’t have is more likely to bring it to you than feeling desperate.
  • Be specific with how manifesting your desire makes you feel without focusing on how or when it needs to happen.
  • You’re limited only by your beliefs.
  • It’s great to believe so much in your dreams but more importantly is taking steps to bring it to fruition.
  • If you set a time goal for your want, and you don’t get it by then, at least you can be proud you did work toward that goal and are now in the flow of making it happen.
  • We get used to our stories, so even if they’re negative, they’re comforting through familiarity.
  • If you are stuck, take some time to dig into why you believe the things that you do. Your subconscious beliefs drive your conscious thoughts and current perception of reality.
  • Change the thought. When trying to change negative thinking or bad habits, literally change the thought and think of something else that can occupy your mind. Have something chosen ahead of time to turn to that you know requires a lot of thinking.
  • Self-awareness is the first step to changing old patterns that aren’t working for you anymore.
  • Everything happens in its time. You can’t force it. It won’t happen until you’re ready for it.
  • Keeping a list of things you want to accomplish or cities you want to visit, this is also a manifesting list/vision board. Even a shopping list is something you make happen.
  • Remember the answer you seek is always one of three: yes, not now, or something better.
  • The how and when of manifesting is none of your business. Release the need to control the outcome and enjoy the process. Let it unfold.
  • On a list of wants, what’s in first place might come second, as you might actually need the second one most, according to the universe.
  • If you want to manifest very old wants, ie childhood wants, why not go out and do them as an adult? Be good to your inner child!
  • Self-love and acceptance helps you manifest the things you want because when you live through love and joy, you feel abundant which creates manifestations.

Be a mango lover! If you want to know what that means, tune in for the episode.

Takeaways

  • Starting over can be scary but it can be rewarding just for the new experience you gain from it.
  • Fresh starts can reinvigorate us and break up old patterns
  • Sometimes small changes are enough to open up new doors
  • Desires of the life we want can keep us going.  It doesn’t matter when it happens as long as you take steps toward it and enjoy the process.
  • Sometimes wanting something so much, you get tunnel vision, focusing on only one way to get the thing. Trust that it will come, no matter the fashion or direction.
  • By trusting the process and letting things unfold naturally, things will naturally click for you. “If it’s meant to be, it’ll be for me, and it’ll happen easy.”
  • Reinventing yourself is exciting and a rich way to live life. Even trying new foods and going to new places can be small “reinventing yourself” steps.
  • Don’t be afraid to try new things because of other people’s limitations. Think about it this way: other people have come up with rules about a certain thing based on their failures, biases, or limitations. If your old friends and job don’t fit anymore, it’s okay to move on; make new friends.
  • It’s not your place to wrong anybody else for who they choose to be. Teenagers particularly like to change their identities, and it’s natural.
  • Let your friends reinvent themselves too; if you don’t like it, then you can move apart. If you want to be supportive and get used to the new them, do what you can for them. Midlife crises or coming out can be examples of this.

Do you regret decisions you didn’t make?

Takeaways

  • If you really do feel regret, that likely means you really did want to make the other choice. If it’s something you can do again, like get a hair cut, go do it.
  • Be mindful of the choices and habits you have. Did you really “not have time” for something, or was it because of poor time management?
  • It’s okay to feel sad, disappointed, or guilty even over decisions or opportunities we feel passed us by but we can’t let those feelings keep us down.
  • Find someone to talk to or journal about it if you feel yourself spiraling in despair.
  • Trust in the timing of your life. Even if you feel an opportunity passed you by, it just means you weren’t ready for it at that point in your life. If it’s meant to be, it’ll find its way back to you.
  • Think of it this way: The decisions you made were part of your growth and it is all working for you, even if it doesn’t feel that way sometimes.
  • Rather than comparing yourself to others, compare yourself to your own starting point. Now acknowledge and celebrate all the progress you’ve made since then!
  • If you continue to regret something that you didn’t do, then take a leap and just try it. You may realize by doing it, you have no interest. But at least now you know.
  • Even if you don’t like where you are right now, you can be grateful for what you have done. If you feel “I haven’t done anything,” then even that too is a teacher, teaching you to go start doing things!
  • What’s meant for us, will never escape us.
  • Jordan gives us the perfect example of regretting a perceived missed opportunity early on in life, but then finding its way back to her later in life. When she looks back, she realizes the timing of when she actually got that opportunity worked out so much better than if she tried to pursue it when younger.
  • When in doubt, write it out.
  • When you feel like your thoughts are out of control, grab a journal and write it out. Dump out all the raw feelings or limiting thoughts. Get it out of your body and then tear it up and throw it away.
  • Writing things out is cathartic.
  • Use a journal to write about your desires and dreams and get excited about it.
  • Create meaning out of your choices. See the link to the Ted Talk
  • Our life circumstances are constantly changing. Go with the flow as you move through life and if our situation seems hard now, pause and take a breath. Remind yourself that situations can be improved.
  • Create positive what-ifs rather than regrettable ones. Ex: What if everything is always working out for me? What if I was already a millionaire, what would I be doing right now? What if I had fun with my friends every day?
  • Find your joy regardless of what is happening in your external environment. That joy will carry you through more challenging times. Peace of mind and heart is the goal.
  • luck = preparation + opportunity. Maybe if the job didn’t come to you, it wasn’t meant to be yours and you weren’t entirely spiritually/career-wise prepared enough.

The debt cycle is capitalism at work, but is there such a thing as "good" and "bad" debt? How can debt further your dreams, and how can you tell you're just spending to "keep up with the Joneses?"
Takeaways

  • Debt isn’t always bad but we need to educate ourselves on how to leverage debt so we don’t end up drowning in it.
  • Good debt can further you as a person, like education, or even having a car. We often need cars in America, but to go way above your means, like getting a car that’s $50,000 versus $10,000, that would not be a smart move.
  • Traveling is great as an educational tool, but rather than going too far into debt, maybe only do one big trip a year.
  • If you want to cut up your credit cards and only pay with your actual money, that is also an option. Do what feels right to you.
  • We can look at money as abundant or scarce.
  • Everything happens for you in its time. Nothing that’s meant for you will escape you.
  • Debt can feel suffocating especially in our society. You can take on debt and work within the restrictions that sometimes come with it, or try to do it without debt and accept that it may take longer. It’s all okay.
  • You can keep up with the Joneses and constantly be chasing the next best thing which may mean spending money you don’t have; or you can spend in the way of your dreams and invest so that debt helps build something meaningful for your future.
  • Look for evidence of the life you want and the money you want to receive rather than the current reality of your situation. Get excited about what's coming.
  • Think about your spending and how it makes you feel. Do you feel enriched, improved, advanced? Or are you chasing a feeling that feels fleeting?
    • Sometimes the more expensive item is what brings you joy, and in the end, you might spend less over time in not buying a bunch of cheap versions.
  • An expensive tattoo artist is so much better than a cheap one, in all the right ways. Think of your large purchases like this, though still within your means. If you can’t afford a full tattoo sleeve, then you can’t right now and will later.

We like being positive, but that doesn’t mean never feeling negative feelings.  It means accepting and allowing them in without judging yourself. And especially for women, those depressed and existential feelings come once every month. So what can we do about it?

Takeaways

  • We let others have space to work emotions out, so we must allow ourselves time to do the same.
  • Holding space is easy.  When you feel some sort of negative feeling, accept it.  Give yourself a time limit and allow yourself to feel everything you feel.  Don’t worry about trying to sort through the issue at that moment.  Just allow yourself to get all your feelings about whatever is bugging you out of your system.  Do this with a time limit so you’re not wallowing endlessly.  Whether it’s 10 minutes, 1 hour, or 3 hours.
  • Make up action steps to take after your time limit.
  • Don’t justify your feelings with thoughts; just feel them. Thinking could lead to snow-balling worse feelings. They are just feelings and by nature they come and go.
  • Distractions are what we do to numb or avoid feeling our feels rather than dealing with them.
  • It’s healthy to take your mind off what’s bugging you through productive, healthy “distractions” but the key to getting through what’s bugging you is first accepting your feelings and allowing yourself to feel what you feel.  Remember, time limit.
  • Dreams are a window to our subconscious and the unresolved feelings that we may have.
  • Hormones play a large role in emotional regulation, but it’s possible because of food and other products with added hormones, our hormones are even more out of balance.
  • Take care of your body, listen to your pains. Don’t tough stuff out.
  • Make time for yourself, in addition to your family

"When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn’t change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family. Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world.”

Takeaways

  • There are so many ways to create positive changes in the world around you right from where you are.
  • We are not here to change the whole world, but impact the world around us positively.
  • Maybe start with joining an organization that already exists! You don’t have to create your own.
  • Volunteering is a great way to make an impact. Start small and see what resonates with you.
  • Show me who your friends are and I’ll show you who you are.” Surround yourself with people that will lift you up and reflect the change you want to see.
  • Our fears often come from others’ influence and their fears.
  • Small actions like a smile to a stranger can change the world!
  • Wanting to change the whole world can leave you exhausted and despairing, so we have to focus on ourselves, and what we can do today. Baby steps create transformation. You’ll see the change you desire.
  • It’s okay to stumble, fall, or fail as you work on improving yourself. That is how we learn and grow.
  • Today we are seeing woman’s rights and anyone who is a non-white straight cis-gender male.
  • We can volunteer, use our voices, engage in dialogue, protest, engage in the process of voting, getting into leadership roles, or starting a movement from the grassroots level.
  • The power is with the people, and it all starts with individuals. That is why corrupt leaders fear the masses. Their accountability comes from us.
  • Think outside the box. Volunteer your skills or talents to an organization that may need them.
  • We have to vote; this is what it means to live in a democracy. Even if you think it won’t matter, please VOTE! Those that want to suppress our voices will try to convince us our votes are worthless or “stolen”.
  • When the majority rise and use their voices, the minority doubles down on controlling them, but the majority must push forth!
  • You don’t have to burn yourself out in volunteering/changing the world. Do what you can, even once a month.
  • Be curious and indirect to help change others with strong differing opinions.
  • Change starts with the person you see in the mirror. Choose to love and forgive that person. Talk kindly to that person and pretty soon what is reflected back to you in that mirror, will also be reflected back in the world around you <3

Jordan opens up about how religion has helped her feel more connected to the world and a better person, after scorning it for years. The twins discuss how when a religion looks bad, it's often the way it's practiced, or groups of people, not the religion itself.

Takeaways

  • Jordan’s fears of religion really stemmed from the extremist people of religion; a religion itself is not fear-worthy.
  • Religion itself is not bad. What makes it “appear” bad is the way certain communities choose to practice it.
  • Whatever religion you practice, ask yourself if you are practicing from a place of fear or love (true faith).
  • Using religion as a shield/sword to act against other people is likely not what that religion stands for.
  • Being religious is not the same as being pious. Lots of religious people can also be hypocritical, violent, fanatical. Piety is knowing your faith, and practicing it with love and acceptance.
  • Being pious is about surrender, love, non-judgement, non-violence.
  • Religion exists to give us structure, a way of living peacefully through love and surrender to a higher power. It is not about rigidity, fear, or controlling others.
  • Do you think it's better to give children a choice in what religion they practice or to raise them in your faith?
  • Raising kids in your religion, it’s like wanting to share something you love with any other person. As long as they feel they can choose to keep it or leave it, there’s nothing wrong with raising them in religion.
  • It’s easy to judge people for who you think they represent (political party, religion, ethnicity). Try to see the whole person.
  • If religion is used as a fear-tactic in parenting, people may reject it as they grow up or else stay scared and sheeple-ish. This is what can turn off others who didn’t grow up with religion, looking in from the outside.
  • Extremism is what we get when politics are mixed with religion to create fear in order to control a people.
  • Religion and science aren’t mutually exclusive. They actually go hand in hand.
  • One should be able to question their religion’s traditions; otherwise it may be a cult.
  • Take inspired action and surrender the outcome to God/higher power. Inspired actions come from love and the more spiritually connected you are, the more peaceful you live.
  • Religion helps to define our values.
  • Morals and values are ultimately adopted or rejected collectively by society
  • The fundamentals of a religion can be practiced in different ways. This is how we end up with different sects of one religion. If one practice doesn’t work for you, you can switch to another.
  • 12-step groups, a non-religious space, use a lot of spiritual language and believe in a higher power which helps the members overcome their troubles.

What is the RAS part of your brain, and how can you take control of it to change your reality? Join us for a fascinating, "take back your life" episode!
Takeaways

  • Reticular Activation System - A small region of the brain with a bundle of nerves that is used to filter through pertinent information. Basically, whatever you think is important will be part of your conscious mind.
  • The RAS doesn’t make judgements. It is not good or bad; we are the ones who assign emotions to it. Even focusing on what you don’t want to happen, you are still focusing on that thing.
  • We are what we believe we are, not what we say we are.
  • Your limiting beliefs were created to protect from trauma; the RAS processes information based on your beliefs.
  • For example: If you believe people are not to be trusted, or that everyone is a cheat, your RAS will show you evidence to validate that belief through the interactions you have with others.
  • Believing is seeing - you must believe a thing first and then you will see evidence of it being true.
  • Even successes can be blocked out, if you truly believe you don’t deserve a thing or can’t do a thing (even if you just did it).
  • Ask yourself why you believe you can’t do a thing.
  • If you have negative thoughts and beliefs about something, like receiving money, you can write them out and for each one, write a positive one in its place.
  • Handwriting things out especially in cursive helps connect the words and make them mean something to you so go ahead and grab a piece of paper and write out your affirmations.
  • Crossing the lowercase T (t) higher up shows more self-confidence.
  • Take a moment and think about where your thoughts tend to be. Are they on what you don’t have and lack or on what you are grateful for and the abundance?
  • Babies don’t fake it until they can walk for real; they actually do it. They do and learn and do it better.
  • When problems are overwhelming, focus on what you can do.
  • Imagine what it feels like to have the thing you want, then hold that feeling and keep going for it. Do what you can, and look for evidence you’re going in the right direction.
  • You can use the RAS to help ease physical or emotional pain with what you focus on.
  • “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right”

Have you ever had that actual lightbulb moment, that click of an epiphany when something you've been working on for a long time, years even, finally makes sense?

Takeaways

  • We may not be able to control our present circumstances but we can control our thoughts and our mindset around our circumstances.
  • You can choose to not identify with your pain, meaning you use words like “experiencing right now.”
  • Self-improvement is a life long process and it takes time. It doesn’t happen overnight and once you think you’ve resolved some issues, new ones come up. It’s just how it works.
  • To sustain progress and continue with your self-improvement, it has to come from within you, not only for the sake of external factors like validation, acceptance, approval etc.
  • You can do a thing, like exercise to lose weight, but the reason behind it can be so different and change your approach, like losing weight to please others vs for yourself
  • We are each responsible for our own happiness, no one else’s.
  • We are responsible for how we conduct ourselves in relation to others but their reactions, feelings, actions, are their own responsibility, not yours.
  • Like The Four Agreements says: Do not take it personal.
  • Other people’s emotions are not your fault, ever. Of course you might say something that upsets them, but the way they show their anger is not your fault.
  • Anger is a natural emotion that is inside each of us BUT how we react or choose to respond is behavioral that is learned and can be unlearned with time and effort.
  • Be patient with yourself. Self-improvement takes time. It’s a journey with no real destination except expanding your inner peace and calming your inner dialogue.
  • When you do your shadow work (shadow work is when you dig deep inside yourself to heal and improve), it will eventually click into place for you.
  • Winning at life isn’t about all the tangible things we collect, but the journey to improve yourself.
  • Teach people how to value your time and services, coming from a place of self-worth.
  • You are most useful to your tribe when you are your best self, and that best self is always changing and improving; like moving the chains in American football.

Cancel culture today is both good and bad. Sometimes we have to learn to get along with those hold opposing views, it's possible to like the art, not the artist, and we can't control how others feel.

Takeaways

  • You can like the art but not the artist. The two can be separate unless the art is the artist.
  • Cancel culture has its merits, especially for those that cause harm in society with their words/actions.
  • If something doesn’t align with your values, you have the right to cancel it out. You don’t have the right to force your values down everyone’s throat.
  • In contrast, you have the right to like what you like. If you feel like you can’t be yourself or unsafe with your “friends,” they are not true friends.
  • People take sides on things they don’t even know about - why?
  • With information moving at lightning speed, we can sometimes jump to conclusions if things are shared without context. This is a symptom of the tribal mindset we find ourselves in.
  • If you’re confident in yourself and why you like a thing, then you won’t be “corrupted” by the artist/sports player/politician.
  • Individuals in society implicitly agree to a set of collective values and standards that become common practice. When the majority no longer agree with these rules or ideas, they cancel it. That is how we got the Civil Rights Act and ended Jim Crow laws as they used to be.
  • Cancel culture is not bad but like with anything, it can be abused.
  • You can only live and exist from your own experience. We can try to understand others, but we’ll never really know what it feels like for them.
  • Sometimes we have to work or live with people who have different beliefs; we can enjoy other people if we can put our disagreements aside.
  • Finding ways to engage those you don’t agree with in meaningful ways can go a long way to reconciling conflicting views. At the very least, you understand why they think that way.
  • It’s hard to cancel people who gained fame before the Internet.
  • Ask yourself why you’re triggered by something, why you feel the need to stop others from enjoying that thing?
  • You can still support a cause, like Ukraine or ALS, in meaningful ways that aren’t trendy to grab attention.
  • If all you’re looking for is negative things to back up your opinion, that is all you will see.

Abortion is healthcare is a right.

Takeaways

  • Infant mortality rates and women’s health issues are higher in red states (see links)
  • Women don’t wake up and say, “I’ll get an abortion!” It’s a difficult decision, especially if they want to keep the baby but can’t for health or financial reasons.
  • America was founded on religious freedom, separating church and state. A lot of the Christian God language came in the 1950s. - https://statesymbolsusa.org/symbol-or-officially-designated-item/state-motto/god-we-trust
  • How does it make sense to say “my body, my choice” as an anti-vaxxer, yet not allow a woman to make the same choice about her own body?
  • We can stand up for our rights through protest, writing letters, and funding organizations.
  • Vet your sources.
  • Restrictive abortion policies adversely impact lower-income women and families that can't afford access to quality services or to travel to seek health services.
  • Reversing Roe v. Wade goes beyond a woman’s right to choose what is best for her and her family. It has implications for privacy on a broader level.
  • It could impact other rulings that legally recognized the right for interracial and LGBTQ marriages for instance.

Responding to an article calling Pixar's Turning Red limiting because of its Asian main character, the twins talk about times when they've felt the oddity/exotic while traveling.

Takeaways

  • Non-white people make up the majority in the world, despite what some white Americans think.
  • Whatever you see in others is just a mirror for yourself. You can’t see in others what isn’t already familiar to you (even at the smallest level). You spot it, you also got it. Remember that.
  • We can appreciate others’ points of views and ways of life for what it is without judging it. Be and let be.
  • When you travel and people traditionally/culturally do stuff that bothers you, you could let them know your boundaries or just let it go. But it’s not up to you to change them/their customs (for example, when cultures eat things you think is inhumane).
  • Everyone has their own unique perspective. Sometimes it’s worth it to take a pause and think about that before reacting to another person’s words or actions. Most people aren’t intentionally malicious or bad.
  • Diversity of opinions, ideas, cultures, helps us grow into more compassionate human beings.
  • If you get the chance, definitely travel to a country where you can experience the feeling of being a visible minority. Or maybe go to a community in your own country to experience a different culture in that way.
  • Don’t get bent out of shape if something like a film or game is going for a historical look, which means less diversity. Unless it’s like Bridgerton.
  • Not every country is as culturally diverse as America, so you’ll find racism or old ways of being in their daily life and media that may make you uncomfortable.
  • When watching a movie, pay attention to the story and theme; what their ethnicity is really doesn’t matter (unless that’s the actual theme of the movie).

The twins discuss Dr. Nicole LePera (@The.Holistic.Psychologist on Instagram)'s definitions of common trauma responses and suggestions for healing, how different ones show up in their lives and how learning of these responses helps us all, even if we don't have them.

Takeaways

  • There are different types of trauma responses that help us cope with challenging or difficult situations.
  • A person isn’t all or nothing and not defined by their responses but having self-awareness can help us find healthier ways of coping. In time you’ll figure out how to change the behavior you don’t like.
  • If your goal is to heal yourself, you need to dig deep into why you are triggered and understand why you react the way you do but this type of shadow work can be daunting but is essential for healing.
  • Changing too fast isn’t effective; change naturally must be gradual, like a healing wound.
  • There are 4 types of trauma responses (coping mechanisms). You don’t need to have experienced horrible trauma to display one or more of these responses.
  • Freeze Response, Fawn Response, Fight response, Flight Response. (see link below for more info on each one).
  • A person can have a combination of responses depending on their life experiences.
  • Be gentle and kind to yourself while you focus on healing yourself.
  • Labels like good or bad, right or wrong, don’t have power in themselves. We give them power. You have the right to drop a label any time you choose.
  • You don’t owe anyone an explanation for why you say no, why you do what you do.
  • Remember: You decide what you think about. You are the one that decides what you think of yourself and whether you give your power away or not.
  • If society is telling us to hate/like something, you don’t have to also unless you really do hate/like that thing.
  • These healing journeys take a long time - read different things to learn about yourself, try new things.

Let your voices really bloom, especially those who have a hard time asking for what they need, giving negative opinions, and more. We discuss why this is hard and ways to practice standing up for yourself.

Takeaways

  • When you want something, being direct is the best way.
  • Women tend to struggle more than men in asking for what they want or need from others, as society’s rules tell women to be non-aggressive.
  • There will always be safety in numbers, but we must learn to stand up for ourselves.
  • People pleasing is a survival mechanism. Women naturally need bonds, so doing something to disrupt those is scary.
  • Feminism has a negative connotation to many because it's seen as extreme, but the reality is there are still too men and women who are not accustomed to a woman speaking powerfully and being able to create healthy boundaries that tell people how they get to speak to her.
  • Self-awareness is key in changing a behavior or pattern that doesn’t work for you. Once aware, you can begin to acknowledge, accept, and figure out how to move forward.
  • Every thought we have is a choice. Human beings are wired for negativity bias as a survival mechanism.
  • If a negative belief keeps recurring, label it a story and dismiss it.
  • Having a positive mindset takes work. Tell yourself that you deserve good things, even if you have to fake it until you believe it. If that doesn’t feel right, pay attention to your current thoughts without judgment.
  • When learning to use our voices and trying to be positive, beware toxic positivity. This is where you negate life experiences and dismiss the experiences of others with things like “just move on” or “it’ll be fine,” or any other cliche. This can be harmful.
  • Allow yourself to feel feelings, and you don’t need to berate yourself for it or create correlations.
  • Take a moment to express gratitude for who you are and where you're at in this moment without judging yourself for it.
  • There are different kinds of therapy, some that focus on the past and some that focus on right now. Choose what feels best to you and do research.

You've heard it said: change is inevitable! New technology like NFTs and blockchain, new foods = let it equal a new, ever evolving you! Learn how to not fear change with this episode :D

Takeaways

  • Most people live in a bubble that is their comfort zone, making change or the idea of it difficult for some to accept.
  • When something is new, people focus on the cost of it without seeing the benefits.
  • Even the idea of change can trigger a negative reaction in people so it is important to pause and consider the impact of change on all parties, not just yourself.
  • If your work environment is changing and you’re feeling stressed, take a pause and determine why it’s necessary, and forge on.
  • If you don’t know about something, educate yourself! You don’t have to adopt that new thing or that political mindset or religion, but at least you’ll know more about them.
  • Technology advances with every new generation, and as it changes, we need to learn to adapt to it or get left behind.
  • Discipline and structure is good for any age, but you can change your daily routine to accommodate new goals like exercising every day.
  • Blockchain and NFTs are here to stay, and as artists we can work alongside them, just like musicians with the advent of recording.
  • Be open to new things. Change can lead to new discoveries about yourself and your environment.
  • Even with food, go ahead and try it; it’ll be something new, and it could change your world.
  • Change is a constant. You can’t stop it or turn back time.
  • You decide what to think so choose thoughts that serve your higher self and that propel you forward.
  • You can’t control other people or the flow of time but you can control your thoughts and work on your mindset.
  • You decide what you think about something - don’t just go along with what your family, community, congregation, or political side are saying.
  • You can be green and growing or ripe and rotting. Which would you rather be?
  • It’s alright to mourn the end of a career, but then look for other jobs (or evolve within that like Madonna).
  • Choose to believe everything happens for your and your benefit.

Continuing our talk about the future, we discuss ways to plan for it financially, how it's okay to put long-term goals on hold as we build up funds for them, and more.

Takeaways

  • Planning for the future takes some ….planning. Look at your long game in life, not just the short term.
  • You can have “both and” in life. You can invest, save, spend, and live the life of your dreams. Just plan for it and get creative. Believe you can have it all.
  • In pursuing a creative career, make sure you have the financial health to keep you from stressing.
  • You’re never too young to start saving for retirement.
  • Unless you’re off the grid completely, how can you be part of the system and yet be green? Electricity, cryptocurrency, they’re here to stay.
  • Distribute your budget money as you require, but know that you make this choice, and you’re not taking money away from one area to give to another.
  • Life is a balance. It’s a trade-off. Sometimes, you may have to give up or hold off on certain pursuits to go after others and that’s okay.
  • Words have real power. How you speak about yourself and your life matters, so speak nicely! (Ex: Instead of “I can’t afford this”, ask, How can I afford this?” or “ I’ll be able to afford this when the time is right and that excites me.”)
  • Don’t look at your current circumstances as an indication of future possibilities.
  • Get creative in how you make things work. Need side money? There’s lots of possible jobs, including selling creations.
  • The truth of what you see and experience is based on what you truly believe about yourself at a subconscious level. That is why two people can never have the same exact experience. Even salt tastes different between people.
  • “I’ve done this before, I can do it again!” - Keep this in mind, but also that things may occur differently this time.
  • You are actively creating your reality with your thoughts. Change your thoughts and you change your reality. The next thought drives the next moment.

This month of February 2022, we have 02-02-2022 and 02-22-2022! Thinking ahead to 03-03-2033 got us thinking of the future in general. We talk about planning for what you want your life to look like, then taking the steps to make it so.

Takeaways

  • Numbers hold meaning, and that meaning can be up to you to decide (or not).
  • Let 222 inspire you and excite you.
  • Don’t be attached to your current circumstances. Where you are today does not determine where you will be in the future.
  • Even the best laid plans can take unexpected turns. Be mindful that some things/priorities/people may not be in your life in five/ten years. Be flexible and adapt along the way.
  • Planning for something you don’t really believe in doesn’t give you a good foundation to build from.
  • Get curious and explore the opportunities that come your way. Be careful of tunnel vision when pursuing your goals.
  • It’s good to look holistically at your future; not just “where will I be in business in five years,” but include health, family, and more.
  • Vision boards are good for getting things done and keeping goals in mind, but these things won’t happen right away!
  • Whatever you believe becomes your reality. If you believe in your limitations, that becomes your truth.
  • Are your thoughts limiting you or advancing you? For example, you think “it’s not possible” now, but in five years, you may!
  • Believe in yourself! Things take time to learn of course, but believe you will do it in time.
  • In order to change a core limiting belief, you must get real and honest with yourself about what you truly believe about yourself.

Here's an exercise in how a fun chat about mixing languages and making up words can transform into a philosophical conversation on language itself! The twins discuss how words change meaning with time, how languages evolve, and more.

Takeaways

  • It’s not uncommon for twins to create their own language as kids.
  • Languages evolve. A word’s meaning can change over time.
  • if a word is being used by a different generation or ethnic group from yours, that doesn’t make them “wrong.” This is natural language evolution.
  • Words can be weaponized to spread hate.
  • It’s important to understand the historical context of words and be mindful of what we say.
  • Sometimes disenfranchised groups take words meant to be insults towards them and use them, thus empowering themselves and changing the meaning.
  • Things and words can have multiple meanings, like rainbows for example.
  • If you’re learning a language and want to be corrected, let people know! Otherwise they may not because they’re being polite and understand you anyway.

Takeaways

  • People of Global Majority is a term that has replaced BIPOC or POC (People of Color) among a majority of non-white people.
  • PGM is meant to be an empowering term. It is not anti-white. It is pro diversity and inclusion.
  • “People of color” was meant to differentiate non-whites for their lack of whiteness in order to keep “whiteness” as the norm.
  • Using the term people of global majority seeks to challenge the status quo, especially in entertainment and the media.
  • The best actor for the role is one who can accurately portray that experience - meaning a person of that background.
  • If it’s a dubbed fictional anime character, why must they be white?
  • Collaborative writing staffs with people of multiple backgrounds are necessary.
  • White privilege exists and something that non-whites are aware of but many whites deny.
  • White privilege is something to be aware of, to understand that certain things in life might come easier to you for being white such as jobs and houses.
  • That privilege doesn’t make white people bad, it’s simply something to be aware of next time a white person uses stereotypes or racist tropes to explain why a non-white can’t achieve what a white person can.
  • You don’t need to put yourself down for being white, but be aware why things might be difficult in life for others.
  • This term, People of Global Majority, is another example of not taking anything personally.

When recovering from a physical injury, mental trauma, an illness, a breakup, whatever, it takes time! The twins talk about illness and injuries from their past and how they got through them.

Takeaways

  • Be gentle with yourself and allow yourself to take the time to recover or heal when you are sick or hurt.
  • Sometimes an illness or injury can permanently change our bodies and the way we function.
  • Patience and acceptance will help you navigate the new normal you’re experiencing.
  • To heal ourselves, it takes more than focusing on the physical body. We also need to take care of our mindset and our mental health.
  • A mood held long enough starts to become part of your personality which then becomes your personal reality.
  • Our thoughts drive so much of our real world experiences.
  • Pay attention to the thoughts you keep thinking about and how that affects your decisions, emotions, and present circumstances.
  • It’s okay to reach out to others for support or help when you’re stuck. Getting help is not weakness.
  • Everyone’s journey and results will look different even if two people seem to be on the same track. That’s okay, be patient and focus on your own path.
  • Know your body type, like if rigorous exercise vs slow yoga is better for you.
  • Embrace changes and learn to navigate through it rather than trying to hold on to the past. You’ll be surprised at the doors that are waiting to open when you do.

When you say, "I can't do that; it's too hard," is this because you've tried it and found it hard, or because so many other people told you it was, so you never actually tried? How much do we let other people's limitations define our own? Maybe you can go further than all your friends and relatives!

Takeaways:

  • Is it your voice/ are you doing what you want to do, or is someone else telling you what to do because “this is what success looks like?”
  • Someone else’s limitations aren’t necessarily our own. Usually, if you have a negative belief, it’s based on someone else’s voice.
  • We are creating stories about ourselves all the time. Are your stories helping or hurting you?
  • Success can be defined any way you choose to define it.
  • Gather opinions if you need to make a choice, but in the end, decide for yourself.
  • Societal “truths” such as “show business is hard” can be untrue for you - ie, try different things; don’t let other people’s beliefs turn you off.
  • For example: Try all foods at least once - don’t take someone’s word that “they’re bad.”
  • As far as “show business is hard,” change your perspective. As an actor, auditioning is the job. Booking is the reward.
  • What values are important to you? Define them and then create your life around them.
  • Baby step your way into the changes you want to make if you feel stuck or unhappy. Remember, success is how you define it.
  • Cognitive dissonance can come in when your beliefs are different from your actions - you’re trying to do something new and more positive, but you still believe you’re not worth it or something.
  • Self-limiting beliefs sit in the subconscious mind. We must reprogram them there in order to achieve meaningful change.
  • Authenticity and Strategy aren’t mutually exclusive. One can be strategic in how they approach life, business, career, or relationships and still be authentic too!
  • Children wait for our reaction to know how they should react - this shows how easily swayed we all can be by others.
  • Do we really need to impress others on social media with our hustle and “always busy” image?
  • Try something with multiple approaches before deciding it’s hard.
  • Mindfulness practices such as yoga, deep breathing, and meditation teach us to be present in the moment, which gives you greater self-awareness to your own thoughts.

Jordan shares some recent dating experiences, and the twins discuss some dating advice, dating as twins, how the stories we tell ourselves can limit us, and more.

Takeaways

  • Dating as a twin is different, and we aren’t always good at small talk…
  • It’s good to be vulnerable in some ways but read the room and don’t put all your baggage on someone right up front.
  • Having a list of personality wants for your future loved one helps in manifesting them.
  • There’s really no rush in dating.
  • Sometimes dating feels like a chore; try to find ways to make it fun for you. Maybe you at least discover a new restaurant.
  • Why do you want a relationship? Is it to impress someone else, a fear, a challenge to yourself?
  • Twins without their twins naturally look for a “replacement.”
  • What are you missing or feel like you can only find in another person? Try to find that in yourself.
  • When making a life change, evaluate where the motivation is coming from, such as fear, growth, boredom, etc.
  • Working a new person into the established family (ie brother-in-law) can take time, and this is okay.
  • Stories of lack or unworthiness that we tell ourselves do hurt us.
  • If the worst case scenario does happen, deal with it then, and even then it’s only one moment in time.
  • Even people who hustle all the time can’t control the end result; we can’t control anything outside ourselves.
  • Things can be as temporary or long as you want, but also read the other person: are they making an effort to be with you or not?
  • You decide if someone or something is worth your time.
  • Be open to new ways of dating, but feel free to do what makes you most comfortable. Have fun with it too!

Jordan shares her experience in the growth of tolerance from young age to adulthood, and the twins talk about how tolerance in general is necessary for life in our pluralistic world.

Takeaways:

  • Racism and intolerance is willful ignorance and denial of other human beings.
  • Exposure to other ethnicities, religions, etc. is so necessary from an early age, but it’s never too late.
  • It should not be your responsibility to make someone else from another ethnic/religious group feel safe around you.
  • Accepting others as they are does not negate your existence.
  • We are all the same on the inside. “Here at NASA, we all pee yellow.” - Hidden Figures
  • If people choose to look at people as “other,” we dehumanize them.
  • Dehumanizing people who are not like you creates an environment of mistrust that has proven to lead to very dangerous and deadly outcomes.
  • Demeaning a group for “jokes” is just not funny and can be confusing. It opens the door for others adopting stereotypes.
  • Be curious about people. Consider the human being behind the behavior. Tolerance starts with ourselves.
  • Whether it’s Mussar or other spiritual practices, curiosity about others can open the door to eventual acceptance of who they are.
  • “Be green and growing, or ripe and rotting.” Your choice.

“What we do for others, dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.” Legacies, why are they important and why are most people driven to create one?

Takeaways

  • Legacies help solidify our life purpose, that our time here mattered.
  • Don’t forget to live and enjoy your life in the present as you focus on your legacy.
  • Our true purpose is to live and live the best we can. Are you stopping to smell the roses?
  • The decisions we make daily all go toward building our legacy.
  • Maybe you will have multiple legacies according to different areas you worked in.
  • A legacy can be as simple as checking in on others and having a smile.
  • Money is an exchange of energy. And yes, money doesn’t buy happiness.
  • Just because other people don’t value what we do doesn’t mean they’re bad.
  • The law of attraction says that when you speak or act from a place of love or feeling happy, it raises your vibrations which in turn allows you to attract your desires.
  • When you work towards your goals/dreams, focus on the process, not the result.
  • Don’t let others talk you out of your dream, but also be open and courageous enough to change course when needed.
  • Even if you don’t get what you want now, it just means not now or something better is to come.
  • Maybe we are biased haha but Pixar movies are incredible at relating to everyday human experiences in a creative way.
  • For example, maybe you think one work of art or invention will be your legacy, but people will love another! Sometimes it’s a mistake invention like chocolate chip cookies or Post-it notes.

Religion and culture are distinct things, though telling the difference can be hard sometimes. We discuss a few things from food to clothing to holidays on how different cultures participate in religions.

Takeaways:

  • Culture and Religion are not the same but they definitely influence each other.
  • All religions have adopted cultural norms to some degree to make practicing easier.
  • What is culture? Culture is food, art, celebrations, use of language, dress.
  • Culture influences the way people of the same religious group celebrate a holiday.
  • Some holidays are celebrated bigger in one country than another (like Hanukkah in the US vs Israel), or sometimes a holiday won’t be celebrated in one culture at all, despite a common religion (like Three Kings Day in Spanish-speaking countries vs. the US).
  • Getting out there and experiencing different cultures allows us to appreciate new perspectives.
  • An example of Religion vs. Culture is the food eaten on Jewish Passover between Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews.
  • The hijab is religious, but the interpretation of how much head/neck/body must be covered is cultural.
  • It’s easy to judge others who appear “backwards” from you, but remember your people were likely there once too.
  • People born into a cult really don’t know any different. By contrast, some people do choose to live in a strict religion.
  • Be open to the answers you receive from another person. Don’t seek out answers to back up your preconceived thoughts. Ask from a place of true curiosity.

Self-sabotage, procrastination, oh my! It happens to (probably) all of us. What can we do to fight it?

Takeaways

  • Self-sabotage can show up in different ways like procrastination, being self-critical, not taking care of yourself, perfectionism, not being able to adapt to changes, and so much more.
  • Doing other “productive” things when you need to do one important thing is not productive.
  • Why do you self-sabotage/procrastinate? There could be many reasons.
  • Find what works for you to avoid self-sabotage - your future self relying on you, future children, deadlines, accountability groups, whatever.
  • When other people are relying on you, it’s often easier. Doing things for yourself is harder. We need to make ourselves worth it.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can be beneficial to break out of sabotaging patterns.
  • Get curious about yourself. Ask yourself questions about your state of being.
  • We are programmed from a young age to think in the negative (what we can’t do, shouldn’t do, etc.)
  • We can reprogram our negative thoughts but it takes consistency and a commitment to want to change those thought patterns. If Dalia can do it with chocolate cake, you can do it with anything.
  • You can’t control other people; don’t try to anticipate their reactions all the time.
  • Practice the art of self-care and self-love.
  • Try to hype yourself up every day. Find something to appreciate about even boring work days.
  • Don’t be blunt-honest to be mean; know the person you’re talking to (if they can take it) or only give your real honest opinion if asked for it.
  • Self-awareness is the first step to beating self-sabotage. In the meantime, be gentle with yourself.
  • Changing your habits can take weeks to years! Stay with it :D

Our first holiday specific episode, Happy Thanksgiving! We talk about what we're grateful for of course, how to be grateful for things you don't yet have, and even a bit of halal/kosher talk (it's a food holiday after all).

-Takeaways-

  • Gratitude is the attitude!
  • Get away from thinking of numbers.
  • Instead of focusing on what you don't have, believe it's coming and be grateful for it as if you have it now.

Dalia shares a story of male aggression from a prominent figure in the VO community.

-Takeaways-

  • Male aggression is very real and we must call attention to it.
  • Women need to stop apologizing for speaking up. You have a right to claim space and use your voice to speak your truth.
  • When dealing with an aggressive person, do what you can to de-escalate the situation.
  • Stay calm during the encounter.
  • There are tools out there that can support us in conflict resolution.
  • When speaking your truth, you will find both support and naysayers; regardless remain steadfast in yourself.
  • No one has the right to shame you into silence and even if they try to, keep going.
  • We don’t need to gaslight ourselves, saying “we must be wrong if everyone says we are.”
  • We’ll never know fully what anyone else is truly capable of, so choosing sides and dismissing another’s experience can be harmful.
  • Spiritual work is gradual. It will not happen overnight.
  • Having awareness of a quality you want to improve is good work in itself.
  • Sharing your story is helpful for improving confidence and bringing awareness to important issues others may be dealing with but don’t know how to speak about.

Following our intuition can lead to great things! How often do you go with your gut?

Takeaways

  • We tend to make things bigger in our mind than they really are.
  • Social media culture can make us feel inferior and get us stuck in comparison mind traps.
  • Sometimes what makes sense and what looks good/right, isn’t what’s actually right for you.
  • Starting over takes time, in a new job, a new city, etc.
  • Work/study abroad programs are not all fun and games.
  • Listen to your intuition and honor your inner guidance system.
  • Before you make a decision, get clear with your intentions and pay attention to how that makes you feel.
  • A calling is something deep inside that doesn’t go away, even if you or others think it’s unrealistic.
  • If you feel a calling but can’t imagine yourself in the “normal” version of that job, maybe it’s meant to be a different form of that thing. For example, not teaching in a classroom but teaching in an acting class. Stay open.
  • Our souls speak to us by guiding us to the next step in our lives through these callings.
  • Get curious about your life and explore different opportunities. You never know what doors will open up for you.
  • Say yes to you. Just be and go with the flow of your life. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
  • Release self-judgement and let go of what you think others are thinking about you.

Why is it so easy to do things for others rather than ourselves?

Takeaways

  • Accountability only works if you do the work.
  • What will it take to light your fire and get you moving in the direction of your dreams?
  • Trick your mind into pursuing your dreams with a sense of urgency.
  • If you are deep into your own comfort zone, doing the things you aren’t used to in order to achieve your goals becomes difficult.
  • If you don’t respect yourself, you won’t hold yourself accountable to yourself.
  • Sometimes your work isn’t “doing” anything. It’s simply to become self-aware of your thoughts and beliefs that cause the resistance in you from doing the “other” work.
  • Are you procrastinating because you’re really tired or because you don’t feel worthy or deserving of the thing?
  • Get curious about why you have self-limiting beliefs or why you engage in negative self-talk.
  • Start creating affirmations or new beliefs and repeat them to yourself until you believe them. (Pro tip: Commit to yourself right now that you want to reprogram those thoughts and stick with it. Repeat affirmations daily and often. Repetition is the key)
  • Someone else’s formula for success may not work for you; just take the parts that do and create something of your own.
  • Plan relaxation time in your schedule. Self-care is not selfish!

Society tends to inform our beliefs and thoughts about what we should and should not be doing. It’s okay to question those from time to time.

Takeaways

  • How do you honor your callings without falling into debt? Think outside the box.
  • Your path doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s to be successful.
  • Hold the thoughts of your dreams and desires and filter out the negative commentary.
  • You’ll know the difference between a calling and wish/desire because a calling gives you a sense of urgency to act.
  • Do you feel pressured by society to work harder than you can?
  • If you really want to do a thing, hold onto that initial thought and let it grow into a deep belief until it becomes ingrained in your subconscious mind.
  • We glamorize the hustle and grind and overworking while the rest of the world shows us it’s possible to be successful and prosperous without doing that.
  • What if we adopted a more European way of life with more breaks throughout the day?
  • Do you agree that the one who puts in the most hours into their work, wins?
  • The win/lose mentality society creates can sometimes clash with what’s best for you.
  • Challenge yourself when you come up against your own limiting beliefs or insecurities. Ask: Why do I think this about me? Why do I feel this way?
  • Being attached to artificial deadlines you put on yourself can cause more stress and anxiety. This leads to the disappointment of unmet expectations and reaffirms your self-limiting beliefs.
  • Take control of your thoughts, beliefs, and direction of your life. Blaming past circumstances for your current situation will only keep you going in circles.
  • Remember: You are the one who decides what you think about yourself. What everyone else says or thinks, is a reflection of them, not you.
  • Whatever you are pursuing or considering, you will always be met with one of three answers: Yes, not now, or something better.
  • As long as you hear your voice in your decision, you’ll be fine.

Why did he get promoted and not me?? Yep, we’re going there in today’s episode! We’re talking about jealousy and envy in life or business. What can we do about it?

Takeaways

  • Am I as excited for myself in my career or life as I am for other people?
  • It’s normal to feel a little envious of those that you aspire to be like. Let that drive you to keep trying.
  • We are all on our own journey and it’s perfectly timed for us.
  • A lot of entrepreneurs have full-time jobs; you’re not alone.
  • As a creative business, you need to be the business person before the artist.
  • We get to choose what we believe.
  • What beliefs do you have about yourself that are hurting you rather than propelling you forward?
  • Treat yourself with the value you deserve.
  • Sometimes we have to dig deep to get to the core truth about what really motivates us or stops us from moving forward.
  • Do what feels comfortable to you, but experiment as well. Think of marketing like “can Sally come out to play?”
  • Marketing is a numbers game: the more you do, the more chance of getting something back.
  • Marketing yourself or your product can be difficult if you aren’t the aggressive type or don’t like talking to strangers! Do what feels comfortable to you, but experiment as well. Think of marketing like “can Sally come out to play?”
  • Focus on what is in front of you. You don’t need to race against others.
  • Believe whatever is meant for you will come to you easily.
  • Do what you love in the way you love doing it. You don’t have to constantly talk or post about it or prove it to anyone else.
  • “Jealousy is when you count someone else’s blessings instead of your own.”
  • Remember: Shine your own light while cheering others doing the same.
  • A creative mindset is one of abundance and limitless possibilities. A competitive mindset implies lack or scarcity. Which one will you choose?

Is failure bad? Fail as often as possible! We bloom and grow through the lessons we learn.

--- Takeaways ---

  • If you can follow your passions, even if they seem impractical, do it. It’s never a waste of time because there is always something you can learn or gain from new experiences.
  • There is no such thing as wrong when you are trying to figure out your life. There is easy and then there is challenging.
  • You can only make decisions from the place you are at. Embrace it and be gentle with yourself. If you feel regret for your choices, find the lesson in it. That’s how we grow and evolve.
  • That inner voice you hear is your higher self guiding you. Follow the impulse that it is communicating with you.
  • Not everything is a big, loud action. A quiet hobby can be just as meaningful.
  • Sometimes the impulse is to engage in a new hobby or even just go for a walk. We can gain clarity or an understanding of what to do next when we pay attention to that voice.
  • Sometimes change means getting out of your comfort zone.
  • My favorite expression is: Everything happens for me, not to me. I am not the victim of my own story. I am the hero. That’s how you empower yourself.
  • We hardly get things right the first time. No one is perfect because perfect doesn’t exist.
  • if you’ve ever failed at something, great; you’re human. You took a risk and tried.
  • Even someone with natural talent needs to cultivate it or be trained.
  • When we fail, we succeed. Think of Thomas Edison. We see the finished product, but we don’t know how many times the creator failed to reach it.
  • We don’t make mistakes. Even seemingly wrong choices are learning opportunities. Nothing happens by accident.

Jordan opens up about what it’s like moving abroad during a pandemic and the experience of coming back home.

Takeaways:

  • Getting to know people takes time.
  • It’s easy to be in your comfort zone but it can be really rewarding to venture outside of it.
  • There will always be an adjustment period when you change environments.
  • Twins are used to a very close relationship, so making new friends is sometimes challenging.
  • Sometimes twins can be jealous of the other twin’s non-shared friends, until they get to know them.
  • Be gentle with yourself while you adjust and try to look for the similarities rather than the differences.
  • Like Jordan shared, sometimes when you think you’re ready for an experience, life says not now. She applied to a program, didn’t get it, then reapplied years later and was accepted. She now appreciates that she had this experience later in life.
  • Analyze any opportunity in a big picture setting, using pros and cons, before making a decision.
  • People are just people. Society rules and expectations can make you feel different but keeping in mind our common humanity can help you adapt to new surroundings.
  • Get out there and explore the world. Open yourself to new experiences and new ways of doing things.
  • If you want to travel, get creative. There are lots of ways to have affordable travel experiences.
  • Try new foods you’ve never eaten before - you won’t know if you’ll like it or hate it before you eat it.

Mirror Mirror on the wall…. Do you find yourself comparing your looks, life, journey, work, results to other people? Let’s have an honest chat about what we call the “fairest of them all” syndrome and what we can do to navigate around the negative feelings that may come up as a result.

Takeaways

  • Comparing the start of your journey to someone’s middle or end is a recipe for stress and heartache.
  • The best artists are not necessarily “the best artists” - they know how to sell themselves!
  • Are you surviving in life, or are you living? Comparing yourself to others keeps us in survival mode or the “lack” mindset.
  • Don’t get stuck in the not doing. Just start. Women more than men tend to put off starting.
  • Have faith and trust the process.
  • We aren’t born with a negative mindset. We learn negative thought patterns. Interrupt a negative thought with a positive one.
  • Your life is perfectly timed for where you’re at right now.
  • You never know what another person had to do or experience to get where they’re at so comparing yourself to their journey is counterproductive.
  • Taking up some type of spiritual, mindfulness, or physical practice to get you out of your head/ego can help ground you in the present and give you clarity of mind.
  • We are energetic beings having a physical experience.
  • Reframing thoughts by using positive affirmations such as: “I AM” statements are powerful especially when they are repeated daily. Try writing them out and see what happens.
  • “I am manifesting extraordinary experiences and I have the Midas touch.” - Dalia’s affirmation
  • Trusting the process means everything always happens for you not to you.
  • To help with jealousy in others’ accomplishments, believe that you helped them to reach it, however small.
  • Believe in everyone getting what they want. You’ll have yours too, in time.
  • “You don’t always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, you’ll get what you need.”
  • The answer is never “no” even if it feels like no. It is going to be “Yes”, “not now”, or “something better”.

“Take nothing personal.” We hear that all the time, but what does that mean and how do we do it? We’re all human after all and emotions can affect how we interpret a specific situation. Tune in and find out our thoughts on how we deal with a situation that feels “personal.”

Takeaways

  • An observation is just that, an observation. It’s neutral.
  • Ditch the labels. We keep labelling things good and bad because as humans, we need to categorize everything.
  • Pay attention to your stories. Are they ones about scarcity and lack? Or abundance?
  • Opinions are just that. No need to take them personally.
  • Nothing creates more misunderstandings than trying to speak to someone who isn’t in the mindset to listen.
  • Am I about to react (impulsive feeling) or respond (thoughtful)?
  • You can accept people or situations for what they are without letting it affect you personally. Therapy helps to get things in perspective, if you can’t help taking things personally.
  • Be proud of your accomplishments, even if “anybody can do it.”
  • “Our eyes are not only viewers, but also projectors that are running a second story over the picture we see in front of us all the time. Usually, fear is writing that script.” - Jim Carrey
  • Release judgement and you’ll start to see a different reality.
  • When making affirmations to yourself, use I, not you. Write down your “I am” statements and set an intention for your day.
  • If you’re going to tell yourself a story, why not make it a good one?
  • “Acceptance is simply love in practice. When you love, you accept, when you lack love, you judge.”

Tune in as we discuss some funny twin facts and myths....from the perspective of actual twins!

Takeaways

  • We forget we’re twins sometimes! You wonder why people are staring…
  • People treat twins as abnormal, indivisible
  • We twins really are individuals - take the time to get to know us both, don’t be lazy by using “hey twin” or something
  • Both twins in the pair don’t always like the same thing (clothes, food, etc), just like normal siblings
  • Assumed fragility - we CAN be apart and you can spend more time with one than the other! You can celebrate one and not the other for their accomplishments
  • We don’t literally feel the other’s pain; it’s more like empathy and imagination combined
  • It’s understandable people want to differentiate twins, “who’s smarter, who’s the evil twin, who’s the funnier one,”  but let’s try to avoid judgy comparisons
  • You wouldn’t ask your normal brother or sister to stand in for you in your job or for a joke, so we don’t either. They have their own lives!
  • What are your thoughts on birth order theory?
  • Just treat twins like normal siblings!

**How do we confront others without sounding confrontational? Tune in as we discuss this important topic and how we can honor our own truths despite the “worst case scenario” fear.

~ Takeaways ~**

- Stand up to people when they wrong you, especially if you’re not used to it

- Hear all sides to an issue

- Make a list of people who would stand up for you if you think someone else will put you down

- Who are you making a priority in your life, and are they making you one back? Why do you need to please them so much if they aren’t?

- Are we truly looking at the person in front of us, just as they are?

- At what point do we stop blaming our parents and become responsible for our own thoughts and feelings?

- Try to assume the best case scenario rather than the worst as a practice
