Presented by Maureen Little whose voice lends a calming and relaxing note to the show, perfect for those lazy Sunday afternoons. On this week's show we're getting in gear with Strauss, Wagner, Mozart and Toms - and visiting the eastern Mediterranean with Foulds and Mitchell. My composer's birthday features Glasunov. My Classical Chorus is the Agnus Dei, set to Barber's Adagio for Strings, and my full movement is the 2nd movement of Mozart's Violin Concert No 3 in G major, There are also pieces by Binge, Beethoven, Bach, Handel, Stamitz, Saint-Saens, Vivaldi, Chopin, and Mendelssohn - something for everyone! In this week's show we're settling ourselves down with some overtures with Tchaikovsky, Mozart and and Wagner, and then we're heading off to the sun - Spain to be precise - with Tarrega, Gottschalk ad Rodrigo. We're also celebrating the birthdays of Bliss and Bantock. My Classical Chorus is Faure's Cantique de Jean Racine, and Rachmaninov is the focus of the longer piece of the show - the third movement of his Symphony No 2 in E minor. In this week's show we're going nocturnal with Chopin, Mendelssohn and Mozart, an heading East with Ippolitov-Ivanov, Mussorgsky and Borodin. My Classical Chorus features the Sanctus from Karl Jenkins's The Armed Man. My birthday this week isn't a composer, but a radio station. Ribble FM celebrated it's 4th birthday on Saturday, 25th July, so to mark the occasion I'm playing something especially for the station manage Lee Roe, without whom there wouldn't be station at all! One of his favourites is The Blue Danube by Strauss, so that's what I chose!
