What began as a side passion while working as a graphic designer in Calgary, Alberta, has now blossomed into the full-time, creative endeavour that is proudly Wayne Simpson Photography.
Simpson’s ultimate goal, whether he is photographing a person or a place, is to create images that evoke emotion and a sense of mystery. Exceptionally executed, his portraits hold a mythic quality and hint at a deeper story, beckoning the viewer to wonder about the subject’s life and experience. He actively seeks out many of his subjects and builds a rapport with them before a portrait is created. His award-winning landscape photography, on the other hand, showcases the mood, drama, and extraordinary beauty of the planet’s wilder places and inspires the viewer to appreciate the more subtle details.
As an educator, Wayne Simpson conducts portrait and landscape photography workshops throughout Canada – from the peaks of Banff National Park to the beautiful coastline of Prince Edward Island.

Lee’s enjoyment of the outdoors began as a kid when his parents would take him camping, exploring the wilds of Northern Alberta or hiking in the Rockies on family holidays. Lee’s passion for photography started with a gift of a Kodak Instamatic from his dad who inspired him to take up photography. Fast forward to 2015 when Lee got a fire in his belly to study photography as an art form while standing under the northern lights on the frozen tundra of the Northwest Territories. In 2017 Lee decided to pursue a passion as career and hope to earn a few dollars along the way when he started his own photography business. As a mentor, speaker and leader of workshops, Lee enjoys helping other passionate photographers advance their journey. Lee’s most recent teaching endeavour was, he was one of 5 co leaders of an Offbeat Photography workshop in Namibia.

You Can Learn Photography Podcast Episode 16 with Robert McCuaig (mp3)©Robert McCuaigBob McCuaig, currently retired, has been interested in photography since he was eight years old, learning the basics from his Dad as well as reading Freeman Patterson’s book called, “Photography for the Joy of It”. Robert furthered his knowledge through courses at NSCAD in digital imaging, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
Robert uses photography as a means of artistic expression, an outlet for his creativity which allows for the experimentation of new ideas. He enjoys capturing images from a unique perspective, that will be pleasing to a wide audience, of nature, landscapes, especially mountains with snowy caps, and people but not necessarily in a formal portrait setting.
Robert has used many cameras over the years. His first was a Kodak Brownie which only took B & W photos. At nine he graduated to an ANSCO camera which could use flash bulbs. In his teens he was given a Yashika twin lens reflex camera which was his first for taking colour photos and slides. In Robert’s early 20’s he was given his first 35mm camera, a Minolta SRT 101. This was a huge step up from his previous cameras as it had a built in light meter which served him well for about 15 years when he upgraded to a more sophisticated Minolta model. From there, beginning sometime in the 90’s Robert moved from film to digital beginning with a Nikon Coolpix 990 and as digital technology evolved upgraded to a full frame Canon EOS 5D MkIII, which is still his current camera.
In 2017 Robert acquired his first drone, jumping into the deep end of the DJI drone pool with the Inspire 2, a beautiful very capable machine, which served him well although not very portable. He resolved the portability problem by purchasing a DJI Mavic 3, which has become his favourite for many reasons.
Robert has several other interests which include woodworking, model railways, design, videography, and photo restoration. He also enjoys several sports such as; cycling, skiing, and sailing.

You Can Learn Photography Podcast Episode 15 – Josée Talbot (mp3)Josée Talbot (image courtesy of ©Vanessa DC Photographe)Josée Talbot, is a Graphic designer and Photographer by profession, from Québec City, in a district of Limoilou, now settled in Lotbinière. Passionate about horses since her childhood, she drew them everywhere, even winning several drawing contests! On school benches, Josée dreamed of wide-open spaces, manes in the wind, open nostrils, wild gallopades, the sound of hooves, in short, horses lived in her imagination! Film photography was a discovery for her while studying design at Cégep de Sainte-Foy in the 80s. In 2008, she decided to do it more seriously, but in digital this time.
You could say she is self taught in digital photography, with friends who are pro photographers always eager to help her. Josée took a couple of workshops where she learned a lot and has been attending horse shows since 1987, first as a competitor with her horse, then simply to watch others compete and then, to photograph classes. She started photographing horse shows in 2009 up until 2020, and still does from time to time. Knowing this sport, Josée makes pictures that show her customers and their horses to their best.
Specializing in equine (and equestrian), wildlife, nature and landscape photography. In April 2014 joining the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC), received her first accreditation in equine photography a month later with a mention of Excellence. The first time attending the National Image Salon Competition in 2015, she received a score of excellence for her photograph titled “Monroe” and which was selected to be part of the PPOC Loan Collection. In 2016, she received a second accreditation in Fine Art photography. In 2017, Josée attained another Excellence and a Best in Class for her photograph “The Left Turn” in the Fine Art category which was also selected to be part of the Loan Collection. A huge honor! In April 2020, she received a Craftman of Photographic Arts (CPA) and in 2021 a Master of Photographic Arts (MPA), designations delivered by the Professional Photographers of Canada. A great accomplishment but, most of all, a great recognition from her peers. In Summer 2022 Josée joined the Equine Photographers Network, an association for equine and equestrian photographers from all around the world where she feels more at home.
Josée likes to push her images further and work with the graphic tablet with software such as Adobe Photoshop, Topaz Impression, and more recently, Jixipix Pastello and Impresso Pro, which is called digital art. By thus working her images, to stand out by her unique style, the rendering of the gestuals, and sometimes even, to confuse a photograph with a painting. She aims to produce Fine Art images that every horse lover would want to hang on their walls.
In 2018, Josée’s first solo exhibition was at a charming restaurant in Vallée-Jonction, Le Resto St-Vincent. It was a great experience and a success, and hoping to do it again! She also offered her first equestrian photography workshop in September 2018, another one in August 2020, and offered 2 workshops in Summer 2022 to members of a photo club. Josée finds teaching very rewarding!
