The beautifully crafted Abbeville Opera House in the Upstate has been the home for many shows and performances since its opening in 1908. But according to many witnesses, some its ghosts seem to stick around for one final performance. Also, in a world full of true crime content, we all seem to know at least a little bit of trivia when it comes to serial killers. One of these killers seems to fly under the radar for the most part, but Junior Pierce was nothing short of a monster. And later, we’ve got a double-dose of haunted theaters in this episode. That is, until recently when a man from South Carolina believes that he has discovered her missing plane. What started out as a spring break trip to Myrtle Beach turned into a missing person investigation of teenage girl from Rochester, NY. It would be over a decade before the family of Brittanee Drexel would finally get some answers. A crime solved and a killer sentenced, all because he finally confessed. Then, by day, Poinsett Bridge — one of the oldest bridges in the whole state of South Carolina — offers a quiet, remote setting amidst the mountains of northern Greenville County for relaxing and exploring. But by night, the bridge becomes the site of seemingly unexplainable paranormal activity. Since beginning this podcast, I’ve received a few messages regarding a well-known ghostly phenomena know as Bingham’s Light. There are countless articles and videos that I came across, but none more fascinating and eerie than that of a blog post by a user on YourGhostStories.com detailing his own personal experience visiting the light. Also, most folks are familiar with South Carolina’s most famous serial killer Pee Wee Gaskins, but did you know that another terrifying figure went on a murder spree in the Upstate? Union County was rocked by the news of two missing children back in 1994. The story would continue to shock the state of South Carolina and the rest of the country when it was announced that their own mother was being arrested for their murder. Susan Smith became infamous as her story continued to fall apart. She rolled her car into John D. Long Lake with her two children strapped inside. According to authorities, this was a result of extramarital affair with a man who didn’t want children. In 1944, George Stinney Jr went down in history as the youngest person to ever be put to death at the age of 14. In a span of just 83 days, he had been charged with murder, tried, convicted, and executed by the state. 70 years later, he was finally exonerated. Injustice comes in many forms. At first glance, the name Theodosia pops out in the eyes of many broadway-enthusiasts. With the success off the widely popular musical Hamilton, “Dear Theodosia” stood out in a soundtrack full of instant classics. The ballad told of a love between a father and his daughter, but many people have never explored the tragic life of Theodosia Burr. Presumed dead after being lost as sea, many theories started to rise surrounding her mysterious vanishing. Her ghost is said to haunt her plantation The Oaks, along with the Outer Banks, Richmond Hill and Bald Head Island, where it is said that her spirit is chased by three headless pirates. The questions surrounding her disappearance seem to outnumber the answers. That may be the most tragic part of this entire tale.

In August of 1976, two bodies were discovered by a trucker on a dirt road in Sumter County. They had been murdered in cold blood and left exposed for anyone to find. Coulrophobia is, by definition, the fear of clowns. According to the Cleveland Clinic website, those who fear clowns may experience extreme, irrational reactions when they see them in person or in various forms of media. So when creepy clown sightings started popping up in 2016, it created a full-blown panic across the country. Reports and videos of these "Killer clowns" spread like wildfire with claims that some of them were attempting to lure children into the woods. What most people don't realize is that these sightings originated in the upstate of South Carolina. What was the inspiration for these clown sightings? Some think it was promotional material for upcoming films, but maybe the motivations were more sinister than we thought.

The state of South Carolina isn't really known for much. Myrtle beach is a popular vacation spot, the historic district of Charleston is a must-see, and then, of course, there's Hootie & The Blowfish. But if you ask any true crime buff, the name "Pee Wee" Gaskins is infamous to say the least. To this day, he is still considered by many to be "The Boogeyman of South Carolina."

Just about everyone from the Palmetto State can tell you about the tall, scaly creature that enjoys destroying automobiles. Christopher Davis was the first to report the sightings of a half man/half lizard creature back in 1988. Since then, it has been a staple of the community in Bishopville, SC. Not everyone is sure of the cryptid's existence, but those attending it's annual festival say otherwise.
